LOMBOK PT.1 - The Way Overland - Episode 19

- This week we’re catching a ferry to Lombok.
The ferry was a little different this time from the last 2, certainly a much older boat with no fresh air in the bottom level where the cars and bikes go and also hardly any people on it.
Our first stop on Lombok is Ekas on the southeastern point of the island. Here a man suggested we check out Heaven Beach for somewhere to camp. Sounds pretty good huh?! It sure was a beautiful place to camp for the night, we even had a family of monkey pay us a visit in the morning with one even trying to get in the car! Unfortunately the wind really picked up so we decided to drive to Kuta where there is more to do and hopefully it would be a bit more protected from these howling winds.
The beaches around the Kuta area are just magical; beautiful azure water, white sands and dramatic headlands.
After spending a week relaxing here (and Mark recovering from a bout of food poisoning) we made our way up to Central Lombok to Tetebatu. Here we find a great guesthouse (Haikiki) which is set in the picturesque rice fields with a mesmerizing view up to Rinjani. There’s some beautiful waterfalls in this area, so we decide to base ourselves here for a few days and explore the area.

To finish off our week we drive to Senggigi on the west coast where we’re waiting for our visas to be extended.
Next week we’re visiting the Gili’s and then doing a lap around Rinjani before moving onto Bali.

Wow the waterfalls are off beaten track... Where is the starting point? Seem hike up to the waterfalls.
I've been to remote parts in Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, West Papua, Timor Leste etc). I would recommend you to visit East kalimantan and Sulawesi on the way back home.
Thanks, we're in West Java now and will ship to Kalimantan is approx 2 weeks. Unfortunately we'll have to miss Sumatra and Sulawesi as our visa will expire. From Kalimantan we head to Malaysia, Thailand etc and up and on to Europe so won't be passing back through Indonesia at this stage.

Ha a very fair question and thankfully one we didn’t have a problem with more than a handful of times. With the mess of power and phone lines there the width wasn’t always the problem, more so the height!

hi. would like to know, which is best, to make arrangement with our hotel for airport transfer from lombok airport to senggigi or just get any airport taxis upon arrival?
Would love to help though we took a different approach to flying and just drove to Senggigi from Australia. Would recommend it.
Indonesian here. Airport transportation can be a bit tricky in Indonesia, depending a lot of things. If you've never been to Indo and you don't mind the extra free, better ask for hotel to help arrange it. Some hotel actually do provide this kind of services with their own car instead of arranging it with 3rd party. If you do choose this, pay after you get to the hotel.
Better ask your hotel. They usually provide free shuttle service from and/or to airport.
