Hello from the group you met at the Hodder Huts! On the drive back out from Galdstone we kept saying "yip, if we were those other dudes, we'd still be biking right now...yup, still on our bikes...big hill that one...still on our bikes at this point...". You guys are nutters! Epic mission though. Our summit day was awesome - a bit of everything weather-wise, but great views from up top. Thanks for giving us some footprints to follow for the first bit, although we ended up taking a shorter, more direct route
Hey Trent, stoked that you guys got some views from the top! Was the only thing missing from our trip. I was a bit of a crampon noob, so Tim and Dave eased me into it. The ride back was fine - all downhill ... ;-) Thanks for letting us know how you got on and all the best for your next adventure.
Hi 1450, Advice from the guys is to check with the Marlborough Tramping Club closer to the time. Weather is so hard to predict - especially nowadays! The guys would at least carry micro-spikes as it's a long way to go to find ice 100m from the summit. Wishing you all the very best, hope you have an amazing trip :-D
Just under 5 hours from the hut to the summit, and another 3 to get back down. Tim and Dave could have climbed/descended faster but I hadn't used crampons in around 20 years so was pretty cautious. And those guys are both great athletes to be fair ;-)
Early September. From memory we planned to go earlier but wanted both snow and a good weather window. In January you're more likely to be dealing with scree than snow, but it's a wonderful environment and a great adventure at any time. Good luck!

Very good...
Thanks!
Be like Dave's. That was epic, thrilled for you all having accomplished such a feat.
Haha, thanks Dave (great name!)
Fantastic video lads. We're doing this trip in early December. What do you think the snow situation will be like? Need to carry crampons?

@@Hixy-Kiwi Hi Dave, thanks for the advice. Good idea re: the micro-spikes - I picked some up today. Looking forward to climbing the hill. Cheers
What was the climbing times? But to summit ect?

Ah cool. And what time of year was this video? I’m heading over in jan to give it a crack!

That’s the hope! I’m not experienced with crampons so hopefully the snow is minimal by Jan.
