Bear shatters glass wall with rock at Minnesota Zoo

- A grizzly bear at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley grabbed a large rock with both paws and shattered one layer of a five-layer panel of glass as onlookers stared from the outside on Monday morning.
Luckily, no one was hurt on either side of the barrier as the bear repeatedly hit the glass with the rock. Zoo animal collections manager Tony Fisher believes it was Kenai, a nearly full-grown male bear, who broke the glass as a form of playing.
That guy must be a good heckler because he annoyed the crap out of me while I watched this video.

Hope they fix it soon. There are two problems here, one, the glass is cracked and it's difficult to see through. The second problem is that now all it takes is another rock to break it and then if there's a second glass they need to throw 2 more rocks. If I was a zoo employee I would've bolted those rocks to the floor. These bears can be given fake rocks that can't break glass. Another option is to put a link chain fence in front of the glass. This would deflect the rock before it hits the glass and chances are it won't even touch the glass. Many zoos put a moat around the bears enclosure and I would recommend that here, but, it should be much wider than usual, maybe 100 feet wide or so. Another option is to put the Bears in a lower elevation from the glass so if they throw stones and rocks it should lose its momentum as they throw it above their heads.
