    The Water Gardens look great Becky - I lived in Melbourne for 26 years and never knew they existed - I must go and see them before April. Monet at the Lume looks amazing - I was fortunate enough to visit Monet's Garden in just outside of Paris about 8 years ago and it was amazing - although we went in October - I think the experience in spring would be very different. I hope you had a lovely break - great to see you again.

      Monet's Garden in Giverny is definitely somewhere I'd like to visit! That must have been a wonderful experience. The Watergardens are just before Warburton, and they do open up every year during summer - I hope you get to make it there! Apparently April 1-10 is when the bougainvillea are all in bloom, rather than the lotuses themselves.

    So glad to see you again! I will enjoy your videos more knowing you are taking time for self care. The water gardens are lovely, but I can see how it could turn into a misery at high temperatures. Those immersive museum experiences are a brilliant idea and it looked amazing. Regarding the Michael Harding watercolors, I would watch a few swatching videos before buying. There are a few unique pigment mixes, but most of the colors are pretty standard. Jackson’s art blog has a review and suggestions for colors they thought were standouts, like the lapis lazuli. Also, they have honey in them, so depending on humidity levels, that could be a challenge. I bought a few colors (the lapis is lovely and more pigmented than most brands) and they must have some unique formulation, because they set up really fast in pans. That is my suggestion for the low buy option, for what it’s worth.🤓 See you next time😘

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Рік тому

      Thank you for your input on the watercolours! The lapis is definitely one I am considering and there were a few other interesting looking mixes which I will research more. The watergardens get SO hot - one year we went and the sun was blazing down; it was too much to handle! 😵

    I might join you on a no buy/low buy year. I realised this morning I went on an art shop website cause I got a €5 voucher for signing up to their newsletter and before I knew it I was getting sucked in to the "spend over €100 to get free shipping!". 2 minutes later I was well over €100, but do I need any of it??? No.
    I went to see something very similar to your Monet exhibition last year too. It was called Monet's Garden here in Berlin. It was fantastic. I love these immersive exhibitions. But that outdoor Monet's Garden looks amazing! Your photos are great. Happy New Year!

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Рік тому

      It's so easy to get pulled into the "Spend This Much to Get Free Shipping" trap! I've done it many times, but I'd still rather have items than spend the money on shipping, lol. I'd love to visit Giverny to see Monet's actual garden! The one here is really pretty though, and I've been a few times. I'd like to take an easel and do a painting there sometime. When it isn't so hot!

    Hi, Becky - sooo good to see you and to know that you really have rested and been out to do things you love!
    As for weekly videos, yes - and about time, too! I know that you love making videos, and have so many ideas for them, but it's far too draining to be spending so much time on us, and leaving nothing for yourself. I know I spend quite a lot of time recommending the artists I follow to take more time for self-care, and hear far too many confessing to feeling worn / burnt out.
    The Monet exhibition? < *envy* !!!> I went to one at the Tate in London years ago, and would love to go again. I really do miss the art shows and accessibility to music and galleries!
    Also for your hard goods pick-ups. I also miss charity shops for good second hand clothes and places to pick up things like your cabinet. They just don't seem to exist here. There's a big warehouse sort of place run by a charity, but the vast majority of the furniture is *very* old, *very* big and *very* heavy stuff. Oops - sounds like a grumble, but it's more a sort of occasional low-key frustration.
    Go gently, both of you, this year, so that you have time to really enjoy being alive. I hope the Greek trip *does* work out. It'll be wonderful for you both to see 'Grannie', as well as to take time to see more of Greece.
    Emojis not working again (I wish I knew why!!!!!), so in this gap _______ , there's a happy smile from me to you.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Рік тому

      Thank you - yes it is very common to burn out on YT and most if not all creators end up doing so at some point. But I've had a break now so I feel much better, though weekly videos is still on the cards - I might have a few extra this month to clear my backlog of ideas but otherwise I will eventually settle into a new routine. I spent much of yesterday painting a nasty looking cabinet of drawers that I found, and it is looking so much better already. It's going to be hard to let that one go, lol! Hopefully confirmation in the next week or so on Greece. 🙂

    “Trying to be really discerning about what I buy this year”-same over here in my studio! My mantra for this year is to use what I already own first, and then, IF I need to replace or supplement supplies, I will. One question that inspires me is: “Am I an artist or am I curating an art supply collection?” And to be honest, sometimes I’m curating a collection. 😅 But my goal is to be an artist and use my supply collection!

    I think you look very natural in front of the camera, even if you feel awkward doing it 😊. I enjoy the one video a week schedule since I don’t have a ton of time to watch videos anyway, so it’s easier for me to follow artists who upload once a week. You should definitely find a schedule that works for you and allows you to concentrate on other things in your life!
    I like your motto for the year, that’s my plan as well… to buy less and actually USE what I have and create more, rather than constantly adding to it. I alternate between calling my year a “no buy” or a “low buy”, but my plan is to limit spending to using gift cards that I received for my local art store to purchase items I run out of throughout the year. So, in theory it’s not “my” money if it’s gift card money, so it’s sort of a “no” buy? However, the fact that I will be purchasing some items, means it’s really a “low buy”. I just feel that 2022 had WAY too much art supply spending for me and I don’t need anymore!

      I'm always on the lookout for those kinds of books too! A couple that inspired me last year include the boxes of postcards I bought on Amazon, Botanicals: 100 Postcards from the Archives of the New York Botanical Garden and there is also a box of roses too. I made a video on them, maybe about a year ago I think. A book which I think is by the same illustrator is called The Book of Flowers by Pierre Joseph Redoute. Another little book I found is called Flower Colour Guide by Darroch and Michael Putnam. Individual photos of flowers, arranged in colour order. I find these books useful for flower shapes and colours, though they aren't loose artworks in themselves. I hope these are helpful anyway! 🙂

    I was worrying a little because of your huge purchases last year. So glad that you see it yourself and try to do it a other way. Small amount of minimalism would be good for your life. More Fitness is very good. Try to get weight loss. Lost 30 kilogram the Last years with counting calories. Only way to be successful. Wish you luck to get more fit.

      We'll see what happens - I'm here to enjoy life as much as possible, whatever that may bring.

      @hexe.Mueller I'm glad you can see that some words are not as kind as others. Try using caution when giving "advice" it could come across as rude and mean, anti-bullying life is very good, let people live and keep your own lifestyle issues and or limitations to yourself.

    Write down a list of stuff you want to try and then buy off that list first before you buy new stuff.

      They started The Lume here a few years ago, and it is such a great way to see paintings come to life in a digital experience! I think there are two others, in Colorado and Indianapolis. Funny we have one all the way on this side of the world!

      Thank you! It was fun to get out and about taking photos; I really want to do more of it this year again, I've missed it a lot.
