    Great video! I'm having a gell of a time trying to find a proper rubber collet for my 30x for a 2-56 tap. Any recommendations?

      I purchased mine from ENCO years ago. MSCDirect has the collets currently in stock.

      @@GillianKnives hello, im back! I was wondering if you could tell me whst clutch setting you have your 30x set to for Taping thicker Ti with a 2-56 tap? and have you done any blind holes since you made this video?

      @@lucasgumbiner8673Hey Lucas I have not use the tapmatic on a blind hole, for the blind holes I use a single point thread mill. Before I could thread mill, I used a hand tapping station from micotools.com, with a starting tap, followed by a bottoming tap.

    For anyone watching this nice video, PLEASE NEVER HOLD ANYTHING WITH YOUR HAND WHILE USING A DRILL PRESS...ANYTHING. use a clamp, unless you don't mind a broken or missing hand.

    There are tapping guns that are very good. The really good one is not made anymore but shows up on ebay every once in a while. There is also a 1/2 drive chuck for a 1/2 impact that is for taps. For small holes use a small chamfering bit in a handle. No need to chuck it in a machine. It's much faster.

      Tap-matic is expensive, but definitely worth it. I have never regret spending money for it. It still makes me smile, when you perfectly tap holes. The only way it could be better is to attach it to a burgmaster.

    What range if taps does it work with?

    • @GillianKnives
      @GillianKnives  10 місяців тому

      Thats a great question that I don't have the answer for. I have two different collet sizes for my model 30x, with those two collets (I did not show the collets in the video btw), I know it can tap #80-00, #1-72, #2-56, and #4-40. But I don't know the full extent (read: range) of what it is capable of tapping. As for the #4-40 they break more often that the other sizes. I don't know if that is the limit of the tool, or if my clutch is just incorrectly adjusted. As for the different collet sizes, they are now difficult to find, that increases the range of the tool.

      nah its the same attachment, the tap just got bent by the warped trash piece of titanium I used for the video.

    May help if you make a finger hold down. In a vee shape it will help stop lift of the thin metal and will still allow quick tapping . Only has to stop lift so loose is ok . Just what I do for tapping lots of holes. Good luck and thanks

    • @GillianKnives
      @GillianKnives  6 років тому

      Thanks for the feedback Silverbullet. I’ll definitely consider the finger hold down. Eventually I hope to have a few drill presses permanently setup for various operations, with the tapmatic in one of them, so I’m not loosing so much time with setup, and tear down.

    What setting is clutch set at ? Just got one trying to figure it out.

    • @GillianKnives
      @GillianKnives  15 днів тому

      Start at the lowest setting, and try to tap the hole. Increase the clutch gradually until the spring becomes strong enough to reverse the tap, and it comes out of the hole. Once it is successful mark the setting with a sharpie. You will find the order of the clutch will correspond with the size of the taps. #1-72 will be lowest setting, higher for #2-56, and higher still for #4-40.
      Once each size has been marked with a sharpie, you can quickly return to the correct clutch position.

  • @noelhall945
    @noelhall945 3 роки тому +4

    No references to the importance of setting the torque clutch.
    This stops Taps from breaking in blind holes, or hard materials.

    If you tap any holes much larger you better make sure that the workpiece cannot come up off the table during tap withdrawal or all hell breaks loose along with your tap.

    • @GillianKnives
      @GillianKnives  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I usually only use the tapmatic for #1-72, #2-56, and #4-40 If I tap anything larger i usually use a hand tap.
