  • I first discovered Dr Priya Mistry's fantastic content on UA-cam - I really enjoyed her style of content presentation. I quickly saw her grow on this platform and help so many of the public with their TMD concerns.
I realised that a lot of what she has to share is not just helpful for patients, but is really useful and helpful for Dentists, especially as many of us find the TMJ to be a mystical joint!
I probe Dr Mistry about her full examination protocol in this episode TMJ Exam with 'The TMJ Doc' for a typical TMD patient so we can gain insight in to how Dentists limited to TMD get to a diagnosis - arguably the trickiest part!

I really enjoyed this video. However, I wonder why in the initial analysis, which is fundamental (before acting, one must understand) there is no mention of monitoring muscle activity in the 24h. Today is a very simple and inexpensive examination (dia-BRUXO) that provides a lot of information to the clinician. Knowing in detail the muscular activity by also analyzing any bruxism in sleep or wakefulness (we know that they are very different phenomena) and distinguishing between tonic (clenching) or phasic (grinding) and having an index of severity for both sleep and wakefulness (the percentage of bruxism activity referred to the total time of sleep and wakefulness S-BTI and A-BTI) is in my opinion essential to understand more and then plan a proper course of treatment.

@@protrusive also, by commenting on the report with the patient and pointing out to the patient the times devoted to bruxism we are able to make the patient more aware, and this is important because for bruxism in wakefulness is the first fundamental step to a therapy

"we record that position with a very sophisticated jaw tracking technology. So it's telling us exactly where to position the mandible so that the muscles are in their most relaxed position"
How do they use these informations to make the orthotic ?
And the resting position should be different for the daytime and the nighttime orthotic, no ?
