This was exactly what I needed. I agree about the physics of the game being better than 2k as well. These greens play exactly like a tour quality green should. Makes the game difficult but also way more interesting to play and realistic.
for real. the challenge is nice but those firm west coast greens drive me insane. 🥴 you can bounce it off the fairway and itll still roll 15 yards past the green
You don’t hit a wedge at a green in real life and have the ball roll 30 ft off the green on an approach shot, same with hitting it short and having an insane amount of back spin. It’s so inconsistent for no reason.
Problem with that is for those of us who are not golf pros and just want nothing more than a good fun game every few weeks, realistic isn't always better. There are two ways to get good players in this game. Spend hundreds of hours accumulating tens of thousands of reward points or just *buy your way* with the EA Sports "pay to win" system (those green points and premium tiers). That's why they're so miserly with XP and reward points. True, 2K is always trying to sell you stuff too but at least it's a cheaper game up front and those paid items mostly cosmetic.
I agree with you on how realistic the ball control is and I actually love this! To me it's like I'm playing real golf and not something fake with unrealistic control. I actually like the learning curve with this game as it keeps me wanting to play it to get better. I love how they packed 30 courses in this new PGA Tour too! I've been waiting so long for EA to make another golf game and I gotta say that this 8 year wait was definitely worth it! Thanks for your videos too 😊
Problem is realistic isn't always better. I'm not a pro golfer, I don't know the difference between a wood, wedge and iron (and frankly don't care). I don't have time to play this game 50 hours a week or the cash to buy my way into a better golfer with their pro tier system. EA does not understand that sometimes casual players just want a game they can have fun with every few weeks and not throw their controller at the screen because the approach bounces off the rough, onto the green and then rolls 200 feet off the other side. Unless you pay $$$$ for premium tiers and XP boosters - which is what this is all about - simply buy your way into a better golfer. I want you to have the realistic experience too but for me, I don't want realistic, I want fun. And there is no way to do that in this game. 2k understands that. EA doesn't.

So glad I found this video because this game was starting to get real frustrating. Seems like my approach shots and short shots either fall wayyyy short of the cup or roll 50 feet past the cup! Chip shots are ridiculous too. The hole is 8 ft away, my club max says 8ft but if I hit 8 ft it goes past the cup 30 ft smh. I’m used to playing hot shots or everyone’s golf so I’m trying to get used to this one. 😒🙄
There's only one way to get good at this game, unfortunately. Spend hundreds of dollars on their "pay to win" system. Those specs don't come cheap. Buuuut, for a premium tier (i.e. pay us more money) you can be a 90 rated golfer in no time! I think EA delibaretly designs things to be this frustrating so they can sell you more premium tiers and XP boosters.
Thanks for the tutorial. One item I wish would be changed with an update ~> Make the short game, around the green, wedge pitch shot realistic! The usually formula with a 64 wedge would be 60% carry & 40% roll. As you noted in an early tutorial, a chip shot has slightly less roll vs the pitch from a just off the green. We should not have to resort to flop shots, especially when they offer a near zero change of holing the shot. My 2¢ for today!
Great video as always, it’s always so helpful being shown how the shots work instead of just reading about them from the skills menu lol. That’s for the video!
I found that if i use a full arc in game settings, the math is not necessary, all you have to worry about is where to aim the bigger clubs, i.e. 3,4,5 iron, woods, and driver to get them to stop..
At 12:20, the trick is to not only hit a knock down, but to hit a draw as well, when it's downhill like this, this gives the wind more time to effect the ball. So by hitting a draw, it comes out even lower, and doesn't spin back as much.

Excellent guide. Do you have tips for anyone starting out who may not have all the control specs for their clubs and ball yet as they are just starting out as a new player?
Im no pro golfer by any means but I taught myself on how every shot, fade, draw, spin etc affects the balls. Actually playing the game and feeling it out will do you better in the beginning. Playing stroke play, you can turn on mulligans and replay your tee shot as many times as needed. It really gives you an idea of how each type of shot works and plays.
I'm level 30 only, but I have maxed control, even higher than yours and the ball still doesn't stop at all. It's clear to me that the only important variable here is the spec. Basically I just aim for the bunkers on holes where I can't just aim 20 yards short of the pin and have it roll on to the green. Too bad the game is so stingy on coins.
I've experienced the same thing. I swear I am nearly maxed out on recovery and approach control. I had the settings on very soft and very slow greens. I even developed the strategy of aiming for the fringe so that it hits the rough stuff first and that takes a little momentum off. Nope. Bounces off the fairway, up on to the green, then rolls 100 feet off the other side, and this is with soft greens, high control and high loft. Maybe specs would improve that but the problem is, those aren't cheap. Any good one is going to cost a zillion reward points and this game is stingy as hell with them..... unless of course..... you implement their Pro Pass Premium tier which is basically *buying a good golfer* and that's borderline cheating in my book. Thank you for this video and the previous video about calculating wind and elevation. All of my approach shots land about 4-7 yards past where they used to when I apply your elevation/wind formula. It's consistently been this way for a couple days now.
I have no clue how people get that swing so straight. I'll be off to the left or right almost every time. Sometimes both. Also, 6:22 how do you get to the numbers? The flag is 8 feet below, ok, I can see that. Where does the 3 come from? And the 145 is minus wind?
I appreciate the effort you've put into these videos. They've been very useful. Some aspects of this game can be infuriating, particularly the lack of consistency. Using the 3-click shot to ensure consistency, I can use the same club, aim at the exact same spot, hit the shot perfect/perfect, and watch the shots land all over the place. It's especially maddening on some of the challenges when you need to do something like land five shots within three feet. Using the above method, the first four shots land within six inches of the target and the fifth stops five feet away. I have a question about spin. I have a PS 5 and cannot for the life of me figure how to introduce spin while the ball is in flight. I've seen lots of advice that says press X or L and use the analog control. I've tried all that with no joy. So, please explain to this clueless meat sack exactly what the settings should be and exactly what buttons should be mashed. Break it down Barney style (with apologies to Craig Alanson and Skippy the Magnificent). I've gotten my golfer to a 94 and have gotten by without not using this. Nice video and I'll look at the control settings but mine are up fairly high and that doesn't stop an approach shot from bouncing on the fairway, then onto the green and rolling 200 feet off the other end. The problem with the specs is that the only way to get them is to either accumulate hundreds of thousands of reward points in a game that is so Scrooge-ish with reward points, or do what they're incentivizing you to do - pay them even more money to get this "premium" pass or purchase extra reward points. EA $port$ is a "pay to win" system, and it's completely unfair. Wanna talk about unrealistic? 2k may be "unrealistic" but at least it's not "pay to win" and doesn't make you want to throw your controller through the way..
@@Ma_Kachada When you say "direction" do you mean the direction you want it to go after landing? Like forward to get forward roll, backward to go backward? Some on-screen indicator of the spin control would help. So I can hold it forward and will that stop the ball from hitting and then rolling backward off the green?
Yeah chipping is not realistic... there is a bit too much run-out. I'm playing a fkn 64 degree, into the wind, onto an upslope, with max spin specs, max spin specs on the ball, max control stats and it still runs out 5 yards.
The ball mechanics are NOT very real. No ball rolls slowly thru high rough, then down a hill or into a sand trap. It even passes thru solid trees mid flight.
sorry when you hit a ball in a bunker it does not roll 2-3 ft with in it when it its it stops..grass is supposed to slow it down you cannot control the laws of physics jim I hate how the make you buy items to control physics gameplay yes sure skill yes but physics no wrong ,love how when they screw up the shot because the mechanics are broke they make excuses for the games fault..it's the wind.it's just a hard hole lol
No turn order in 1v1? Playing at the same time In 1v1 is stupid. No ranked play system? The physics with flop and other shots are so fake, beads are off. They got alot of work to do. Greens are super unrealistic, balls don't just stop on hills and you can't use any slope on the greens like in real life.
The ball is landing nowhere near the landing indicator in your examples. That’s not good game design. That’s you guessing in quick play for 50 hours until you’re good at guessing. I understand in real life these no 3rd person view 300 yards down the field to tell you where your balls going to land. Yet this isn’t real life, it’s a game. And the indicator in this game is useless. Even on lower difficulty’s. The ball moves realistically fine, but the indicator on where the ball is going to initially hit the ground should be spot on. From there is where you would utilize your knowledge of golf to hit the ball where you need to, pick the correct shot type, and club. To ad insult to injury. They expect us to spend money on items to improve stats that don’t properly translate visually in game. I’m so happy I have game pass and didn’t actually buy this shit.
I don't know what it is but this guy comes off as kind of patronizing. I've got all control up to the max and the damn ball still skids 100 yards across the green like it's on ice. There is NO way this is realistic I never see that in real golf.
I just feel like the Finesse shots should have more backspin than the approach shots. It looks like the ball goes higher, plus a lot of times in my game it does roll backwards pretty heavily like 40% of the time. Doesn't make sense to me
@@Ma_Kachada Thanks! Yeah, I don't know if it's my settings but it seems like the blue line and circle get further apart with more wind, and when I line up the blue line to flag on a windy shot, it seems to be a lot more accurate than basing it off the shadow circle.

I watch WEEKY PGA/LIV golf. I see them do 3 irons, 4 irons that one bounce then stop after 2 ft of roll. You don't watch golf with that statement
Why can’t I spin on my career? I have it on. So confused.
Not sure. Might be a controller configuration thing
Can somebody explain to me how mid air spin control works. Can't find a tutorial for it anywhere.
Tap LB/L1 while holding the right stick in the direction you want to spin the ball
@@Ma_Kachada thanks bro. I another button that had the same symbol so I thought it was more complex then just button smashing.
Why you said 154 when it showed 157?
I get so confused on the math like when you said the flag is down 8 feet so just about 3, I was completely confused lol
Yeah 3ft=1yd. I round to the closest value. 9ft/3=3
@@Ma_Kachada Thanks! Didn’t realize you had that video when I commented this. That video helped a lot btw, I’m actually starting to make good shots
the competetive online mode is harder then real golf lol
I swear I can't putt for shit
Why did you waste so much stat points on putting mate?
Also mute the commentary in future lol
Nice vid 👍🏼
I wanted to see if higher putting would help. They can always be reset
Does it help?
Hey dude.. your mic is waaaaaay too quiet
Great videos. Gotta cut out the commentators voice from the game though... it makes it hard on the ears.
The ball mechanics are NOT very real. No ball rolls slowly thru high rough, then down a hill or into a sand trap. It even passes thru solid trees mid flight.
youtubers have to shut off comentary for these videos
I find the game so inconsistent. It puts me off playing.
sorry when you hit a ball in a bunker it does not roll 2-3 ft with in it when it its it stops..grass is supposed to slow it down you cannot control the laws of physics jim I hate how the make you buy items to control physics gameplay yes sure skill yes but physics no wrong ,love how when they screw up the shot because the mechanics are broke they make excuses for the games fault..it's the wind.it's just a hard hole lol
”Set yourself up for success”, does that mean pay to win?
No. You have to earn VC by playing to level up. It cant be bought with real money
@@Ma_Kachada i mean the better balls and clubs. Do you get them for leveling up also?
@Litti#10 you buy specs from the store using VC that you have to earn. All brand look stuff is purely cosmetic. Or earn specs via challenges
@@Ma_Kachada ok ty
Game is such a let down . Sadge
I think you could make things easier for yourself when making these videos if you turn on mulligans temporarily
That's a great idea. I didn't think about that. Such a simple thing. I appreciate you
The ball is landing nowhere near the landing indicator in your examples.
Ball roll is over exaggerated…a lot. I literally watched a ball gain speed rolling through rough that barely had anynangle at all. Shit is broke.
I agree with the rollout in the rough...it is way overexaggerated. The rollout on chipping is ridiculous too.
Turn off clowns talking.....fail
Way to complex of an explanation
Then this game is isn't for you.
Pay to win I see 😬
No. You can't buy vc or skill points. You have to earn vc to purchase those specs
Where u get that marker to tell you when to swing?
I just feel like the Finesse shots should have more backspin than the approach shots. It looks like the ball goes higher, plus a lot of times in my game it does roll backwards pretty heavily like 40% of the time. Doesn't make sense to me
I 100% agree with you. BUT Speed creates spin, so I guess the approach is a harder hit shot which would generate more spin. Great point though
Bro is wearing a golf glove 😂😂😂
How do you get that little black mark on your swing meter?
On the Zoom Aim, am I awiming where circle shadow is, or where the blue line is falling? Still confused because I can't figure it out in game.
The circle is the variable area that it can go. The blue line is a perfect shot
@@Ma_Kachada Thanks! Yeah, I don't know if it's my settings but it seems like the blue line and circle get further apart with more wind, and when I line up the blue line to flag on a windy shot, it seems to be a lot more accurate than basing it off the shadow circle.
@@Ma_Kachada Does that mean the variable area it can LAND or where it can wind up?
