Have already got the Mini 3 Pro so sticking with that and saving for the Air 3 In the new year most of my flying is out of built up areas and wind is a factor
So tempted to get the 4 but I barely use the 3 as it is. will wait for the 5 and make some use of the 3 for the time being.
Air 3 w Fly more and DJI Care almost $1,800. The Mini 4 Pro w Fly more and DJI care $1,200. $600 difference but saving $600 and getting all that’s talked about in this video is an AMAZING deal. You get less of a bill and a lot more FEATURES
The Air 3 is the one with more features. The 70mm camera, better wind resistance and flying battery time for me justifies the extra cost

I respectfully disagree with your comments in principle. Drone flying is indeed a personal choice, and it's not a one-size-fits-all situation. It depends on various factors, such as where and how you fly, as well as the type of shots you require. However, when it comes to the Mini 3 PRO or Mini 4 (essentially the same drone), I've encountered several limitations that I believe are worth considering:
Non-Zoom Lens: The lack of a zoom lens on these Mini drones means you have to get quite close to your subjects. This can be problematic when dealing with wildlife and people. Being within 30 meters to get a good shot can often scare off wildlife and disrupt people's activities.
Wind Handling: Wind is a significant factor in drone flying, and the Mini series doesn't handle gusts well. There have been instances where I've had to switch to larger drones for missions because the Mini simply couldn't cope with the wind.
Prop Changing Difficulty: Changing props on the Mini series can be quite challenging. Even with professional tools, the factory-fitted screws often strip, requiring time-consuming efforts to replace them. In Australia, where insects can be a significant issue, especially during flight, I prefer the clip-on props of larger drones for their ease of replacement.
Size and Weight: Personally, I don't find the slightly larger size of other drones to be an issue. Most of my photography is well-planned, and I have to transport gear to the site regardless. With a hard carry case, the weight doesn't pose a significant problem for me. However, I understand that for those who hike and walk for extended periods, the weight of larger drones might be a concern, and that's a matter of personal preference.
Camera Rotation: The rotation of the camera is a non-issue for me. I have a preference for traditional cinematography techniques and find portrait mode, as seen in platforms like TikTok, less appealing.
Additionally, the difference between 4K and 2.7K resolution on small screens, even iPads, is often imperceptible. So, the camera rotation is not a critical factor in my drone selection.
While I have experience flying all models of drones, I've found that the Mini Pro series no longer meets my requirements for most missions.
It may be suitable for newcomers to the drone hobby, but after a few years, its shortcomings become apparent and limit its usability in various scenarios.
Finally, it's worth noting that in Australia, drones weighing between 1 grams and 2 kilograms are required to be registered with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). Additionally, for any commercial drone operations, individuals must hold a Remote Pilot Accreditation from CASA and have successfully passed the relevant examination. Therefore, even in this weight range, the Mini series offers no particular advantage, as compliance with registration and licensing requirements remains mandatory.
Pretty much all valid points. Also, fixed aperture asks for ND filters for many videography scenes, which complicates workflow a lot.

One might draw a parallel between these drone updates and the regular refresh cycles of mobile phones. With each iteration, the enhancements might appear minimal compared to the previous year, but when viewed over a two-year span, the advancements are rather significant.
I'm currently utilising the Mavic 3. While it serves my personal coastal walks with my dog splendidly, it's also indispensable in my professional capacity, inspecting rooftops. A strategic shift I made based on your guidance, working alongside several roofing firms using my drone. My slight grievance, it's that the Mavic 3 lacks the 9:16 format. Albeit a minor inconvenience, as I can always crop the visuals accordingly. That said, echoing your sentiments on its decibel levels, the Mavic 3 is undeniably boisterous. Perhaps it's prudent for me to consider parting ways with it, exchanging it at MPB, and opting for the Mini 4, which seemingly meets 99% of my requisites.
Speculating on the Mini 5, one does ponder if DJI will focus on enhancing the camera or delve deeper into software refinements.
Shifting gears slightly, based on UA-cam's algorithmic suggestions, one might be led to believe that DJI monopolises the drone market. Are there any notable alternatives we ought to be aware of?

I'm glad I got lucky and was planning on getting a mini 3 last year for my travels but kind of forgot about it since Iceland wasn't hardcore on drone rules so I brought my air2s . So now with more strict regulations I'm getting a 4 hopefully during black friday deals or prime day

Great video as always. I do have an important question which I have not seen discussed as what best setting (Brake or By Pass) to use in Obstacle Avoidance Action when you lose connection & the drone is return home automatically . For example, if my RTH height is set to 200ft, then i lose connection behind a 250ft high building, and my setting is Brake in Obstacle Avoidance Action, my assumption is that my drone will just hover at 200ft behind the bldg and the drone will never return back home. If my setting is set to By Pass in Obstacle Avoidance Action instead, will my drone fly around the bldg at 200ft until it sees or makes connection with my RC? Can you please comment on this so I know what setting to use in Obstacle Avoidance Action when I lose connection. Not sure if someone has already tested this but i appreciate your comment on my question. Thanks so much.

We just used one yesterday for filming mountain biking. We had consistent 5-10 mph wind, mostly 15-20 mph gusts, with some getting to about 25. When the bigger gusts came in it got a little unstable but we never lost control. Regardless, these are awful wind conditions for mountain biking anyway. I’d be more concerned about being able to ride than flying my drone.
Noise-wise it’s one of the quietest drones I’ve heard on the mountain.
It was very easy to fly. I had about 15 minutes of previous flying time with my dads Mini 4. It’s very easy if you have a general idea of how to operate one.
Camera quality is crazy good for 95% of applications. For your average consumer, it’s more than enough.
The omnidirectional tracking works well for open spaces. On our faster runs we did manage to out-run it even in sport mode, as we hit over 45 mph on some of the big lines. So if your filming requires a fast drone, this definitely isn’t the one for you.
All in all, it impressed me enough that I ordered one last night. As a hobbyist, it’s more than enough.
I can't tell you how impressed I am with the Mini 4 pro so far... I can't think of a single reason why I'd need anything bigger or any more features... Great advice, man!

I prefer the Air 3 and Mavic 3 pro 10x over the mini 4 pro. Would choose the Air 3 over the Mini 4 pro all day/anytime. Love the 70mm camera. Cant use a single camera drone anymore.

Hi Darren I fully accept your reasoning here, but the reason I will be buying an Air 3 is because I need a bigger drone with greater wind resistence. Most of my flying is on the north east coast where there is always a sea breeze. If I can afford it I will also buy a mini 4pro simply to get occusync4 and 360 obs.avoid. I will not be getting rid of my mini 3 pro though thanks to your last post re the C0 rating on the mini series. I will take your advice and NOT update the firmware. I always watch your posts as you are usually the first to announce firmware updates. Would be great if you can give us the heads up when DJI release the update that would restrict the mini3 on its altitude. Kind regards Jon

I’m sorry I know you’re talking about the mini 4pro I have a question give dji mini 2 the front lights customize doesn’t work at all I tried to put a rainbow, purple orange green. Nothing of nothing it’s like Totall dead decent turn it on turn it off doesn’t work. Any ideas please and God bless you. Thank you your help

Check the weather properly first. I took the Mrs and her father for the day thinking I could pretend I was being nice, whilst secretly my reason for going was to fly my mini 3 pro and get some night footage of the Illuminations. Didn't even get it out its bag, it was so windy. The wind didn't even look that bad in the forcast for Blackpool.. But the coast is different.
I've now bookmarked the pier cam, so that I can check how rough the sea is before going next time.

Great review and if you’re constantly in congested areas maybe buy a mini but I’d buy the 3, I bought the air 3 and got my a2cofc and I have no buyers remorse after watching the video.
The problem is - at least in Europe - the C0 certification and the associated limitation to 120m from January 2024. As an owner of the M3P, I will therefore not upgrade despite the general improvements compared to the M3P. I guess I'll wait for the Air 3 Pro or S with Ocusync 4 and camera improvement. It has a C1 certification, which means it can be flown in Europe like C0 in the A1 category.

I already have mini 2 which makes me money. Mini 2 was a revolutionary for dji as the new dtone rules in EU was rolled out restricting heavier drone to fly in areas i usually go to do videos. Was planning to get air 3 but as of January this year, new classification for C1 drones changed, so will stay with my mini 2. 😊
I would only buy the mini 4 pro for rec use. For commercial use the Air 3 or Mavic 3 is a must.

I went from a Mini 3 Pro to an Air 3. Then took my A2 CofC test. To any and all of you who are happy with their Mini 4 I am incredibly happy for you. The only restriction I face is not being able to fly over uninvolved members of the public. The thing is though i dont fly a drone to fly it over people. I fly a drone over mountains and water in Scotland, Wales and anywhere else that is wild and open. For this purpose the Air 3 excels. Its battery life is phenomenal as is its resistance to wind. The dual camera takes the most amazing footage. Its climb, descent rate and speed are eyewatering. I have no doubt that the Mini 4 is an excellent drone. The Air 3 however for my own purposes suits me far better.

If I well uderstand, the Mini4 Pro has the very same sensor hardware as the Air3 main camera (i mean quad bayer back illuminated sensor with the same dynamic range) while the Mini3 has a less capabe sensor technology? So for backpacking this would be killer. I tought upgrading my Mini2 to Air3 for its sturdyness and 70mm lens but it would be a backpack killer... Thanks for your video!
Well, in some countries you need to prove your abilities. I have a Swedish "Dronecard" valid in all EU (don't know about exBritian) and a drone insurance valid for most except from high-risk countries. And of course I stuff some DJI action cameras... I definatively agree to the sentence , that the best camera (Or perhaps drone) is the one you carry with you... A couple of videos that are not made is the ones in how do you make your work work seamless between a (or some) ground camera(s) and drone footage, at least I have not seen that... Love your Clips, probably because we pretty much agree on many levels....

I agree in general with some remarks.
Time 01:23. "Flying above people". As I interpret the rules a Mavic 3 pro, c2 class, is not allowed to fly above people at all. Your argument is a bit off I'll say.
Attention..... Even the little Mini 3 pro draws attention. Regardless of which drone I intend to use I talk to people concerned and verifies the flying is okey. It has worked out very well so far. Taking nearby a private property I was granted permission to walk close to their property. The only remark was not publishing pictures of their property.

Travel.... The larger Mavic 3 pro in its enclosure doesn't occupy that much more place. If its cameras are important, that decides. If the huge camera set is not needed, I use the little machine, the Mini 3 pro.
Colour profile, 8 or 10 bit. I wonder what my rather new ASUS Vivobook laptop screen can show...?!
When recording close up pictures on f ex water lilies I will use the Mavic 3 pro at 10 - 20 meter altitude and, I guess, 3 - 7 X magnification. Testing with the little Min 3 pro I needed to get down to around 2 meters and doesn't feel safe.
Recording wild animals, the Mavic 3 pro cameras and distance is used.
Sold my M3P fly more on the release day of the M4P.. cost me £325 to change to the M4P Fly more which id say is easily wotth it for the extra features. I don't see the point of owning any drone over 249g

One of best of best drone from dji is Air 3 I m loving it. E1 mini 4 pro is also good but it has one problem that is gimbal overload that is because min 4 pro heats up faster because it doesn't have cooling fan build in. But Air 3 is super it has all feature that we need. Only down side is vertical is 2.4k rest it's a super drone strong build super faster fly. Long fly time fights in high winds build in best cooling fan and so much to explain. About air 3

Hi Darren, many thanks for another very helpful and informative video, greatly appreciated. I am thinking of upgrading from my Mini 2 to a Mini 4 pro as I use my drone primarily in the far east and I have been having battery swelling problems through the heat. Do you have any information/thoughts/experience on the efficiency of the new airflow vents on the Mini 4 pro towards solving this problem in warm climates? Many thanks in advance for your consideration.
However, if you already have a Mini 3 pro drone then why swap it? Size, noise, shareability, travel are all the same as the Mini 3 pro and even the Mini 2. As such camera is the only point here if you already own a DJI Mini drone. As such It could be argued that if you already have a Mini you would be better getting an Air 3 with two cameras and better wind performance. Yes the Air 3 is louder but you shouldn’t be flying it close to uninvolved people in the UK anyway. So two drones rather than one with Mini for built up areas/travel and Air 3 for in the countryside and wind. Anyway, that’s my thinking.
That's the conclusion I came to. The more I looked the less it made sense to spend the money on the same platform for the upgraded features when I could spend a little more and get those features and more on a different platform. So I now have a Mini 3 and an Air 3. The Air 3 is a bit louder but the pitch is different and so far it's attracted no more attention than the Mini 3. It is also offset by the ability to get a shot at 3 times the distance thanks to the 70mm lens. The other thing with the Air 3 is the speed, most notably the vertical speed being double the mini, it ascends and descends so quickly. It's stability in the air and wind resistance also inspire much more confidence. Yes the Mini can handle a lot but seeing it bounce around definitely gets the blood pressure up a bit :) Overall I am very happy with the Air 3.
Do all UA-camrs travel extensively? The ease of carrying the Mini drones is so hyped, yet I seldom see much footage from any travel destinations.

Compared to the bigger drones like the Mavic and Air all the Mini drones are an advantage on size when travelling. The Mini 4 does have a lot of upgrades over the Mini 3

I don’t like the fact that I cannot use goggle v2 with dji mini 4 pro whereas I CAN with dji mini 3 pro.
You can not buy a Mini Pro Flymore Combo with an RC-2N (withsout screen). For 40 Minutes flying I need a 1.130€ Flymore Combo for a Mini 4 Pro or 1.099€ for a Air 3 (with one batterie and the RC-2N) . I prefere flying with an iPad Mini 6 attached to the RC-2N and don't need the RC-2.

I never take my drone in my pocket, I've got a carry case, spare batteries, controller, and niff naff bits - never ever put it in my pocket, it's a light drone, indeed being harsh it's flimsy. Your other points are completely fair 👍

Absolutely no, if you already own mini 3 pro. Buy Air 3 instead. The mini series are loud enough to attract attention I see it every time when I fly it. You need telephoto lens, if you want to escape attention. The vertical photos should be banned. They are horrible.
I'm buying the air 3 for stability and altitude. The pro mini 4 is a toy. It can't handle strong wind and can't climb quickly or even give me confidence with flying the distance.
In NY when its very windy, I have to say both Mini 3 Pro and 4 Pro did greta job, Mini 2 had some issues because of gimbal design, no issues with newer models, you do however feel more confident with the bigger drone, the only problem is - traveling, you won’t be able to get full advantage of your drone outside of USA where you have maximum distance and battery capacity, in Europe things are different, Most of the time Mini is your only choice…
The Mini 3/4 Pro is small, quiet and lightweight. I feel so much better flying it than a heavier drone. Takes the stress out of flying (even though DJI makes safe drones).
absolutely no to air 3. the mini 4 pro has so much more advantages. you can fly over people and buildings with no fear to break the law here in europe. with the air 3 you can‘t and it doesn’t really shoot better photos than the mini 4 pro. actually the mini 4 pro shoots quite brilliant for its camera size. moreover the mini 4 pro is indeed more quite and because of its size it‘s certainly not that noticeable. you can‘t deny that. for i‘m a landscape ecologist evaluating landscape elements for understanding patterns and gaining overviews it‘s vital to have the best small drone and not an elephant in the sky. land owners don‘t really like it if you are over their properties no matter if it‘s built areas, arable land, meadows, pastures or woods. and that’s my experience. for my profession the mini pro‘s are the only choice for sure.
