Kimi: Fastest driver this century at his peak. It wasn't just 2005. It was 2003, 2004 and 2006 too when he was unbelievable. Can't compare 2014 Pirelli Hybrid Kimi or 2008 Bridgestone Kimi with Michelin tyre Kimi at McLaren.
If it wasn't for Mclaren unreliability Kimi would been 2 time world champion, maybe even 3. 2003 season Kimi was 2 points away from Michael who won the championship and Kimi had 3 retirements during the season which ultimately snapped the championship away from him. 2005 season Kimi had "only" 2 retirements, but both retirements happen when he was comfortably leading the race, but instead retired and gave Alonso the win. Alonso then went and won the championship by 20 points margin to Kimi. Who knows what might have happen if McLaren would had just a little bit more reliability car.
@@0rouni0 If there was not that man on the track in Silverstone 2003, it would have been enough to win the championship. And yes, Kimi deserved to win the 2005 championship more than Alonso.
@@drybones7475 If anyone thinks Kimi Raikkonen deserved 2005 title over Fernando Alonso read this out -: Fernando Alonso was leading the championship by 29 points against Kimi Raikkonen after Imola. Then Kimi won Spanish and Monaco Grand Prix. By this point it was clear that Mclaren was much faster car than Renault. Here Renault had two choices either to improve the car performance by improving the engine and taking the risk of unreliability or take the conservative approach. Since Renault and Fernando had this huge margin they opted for more conservative approach and you can see conservative approach in Fernando's driving style as well he chose to stay out of trouble all the times, not making dangerous overtakes, not defending too hard not pushing way too much settling for 2nd or 3rd place early in the race and working the strategy accordingly if Victory doesn't seem likely. You can also see this conservative approach was no longer to be seen after Alonso won the championship in Brazil. In Japan after championship was won, Alonso made some spectacular moves twice on Schumacher and one on Mark Webber. He could have won the race himself if there wasn't misunderstanding with FIA which led to Alonso giving the place back to Christian Klien twice after overtaking him which cost him about 10 seconds. If not for that Alonso would not have stuck in traffic after his pit stop and could have won the race. In China Renault used the improved engine (they couldn't use it in Japan as 1 engine for 2 races rule and Japan was 2nd race for old engine) In China Alonso build the 20 seconds gap before 1st pit stop which was vanished after a safety car but still Alonso won the race comfortably. You can watch that race and listen to Alonso in press conference where he talks about the improved engine he said,"If we want to take a little risk, If we want to beat Mclaren we could do it as we have shown today, I could have won 10-11 races instead of 7 which we won if we had used this engine from the start." in response to a question that you and kimi had won same number of races but you won the championship by 21 points. So in conclusion had Renault used the better engine. Alonso would have won the championship with far more points if it were reliable. But instead they went for conservative approach and won the title without risk of unreliability. And had Mclaren focused more on reliability instead of performance they would have less retirements and engine penalties but also less race wins, so they still wouldn't win the championship. And to round up the discussion, Alonso had his share of bad luck as well but not close to what Kimi had like -: In Hungary, Ralf Schumacher crashed into him causing damage to Alonso's car which saw Alonso P20 at the end of lap 1 and giving him no chance for points since damage was costing him 1.2 seconds per lap as reported by Pat Symonds In Imola, Alonso's engine was down on power and he had to defend against Michael Schumacher for 13 laps which he did amazingly and is considered as one of the greatest defensive driving in F1 In Monaco, bad timing of safety car and poor strategy of one stopping saw Alonso and Fisi carrying much heavier fuel load which led to Alonso's and Fisi's tyres to be completely worn down. Although Fisi finished outside points Alonso managed to hold off train of 4 cars which finished just within a second of him and finished P4. In Australia, A poor timed rain in quali meant Alonso had to start from P13, he finished P3 while Fisi won (his only win of the season)because he got lucky with quali due to rain. Alonso could have easily won that race. (Although rain affected Kimi's quali as well) Again same as Australia happened in Japan with both Alonso and Kimi, but after overtaking Klien, Alonso had to give him the place back twice once immediately and once after overtaking again and creating a significant gap, due to misunderstanding from FIA which cost him about 10 seconds. Alonso could have most probably won the grand prix as he wouldn't have stuck behind traffic and would be ahead of Kimi after final pit stops In Silverstone, Alonso was held up while lapping Coulthard and Vileneuve first and then Trulli afterwards no blue flags were shown to them which caused him time and most probably victory I can understand why some people think Raikkonen deserved it but I am sure Fernando more than deserves it. The maturity and conservative approach by Alonso and Renault and Alonso's supreme driving won them the title despite Mclaren being faster(but unreliable) car.

Wanna see why I love the v10 era? Just watch 3:20 See that change of direction from Alonso? The steering on these cars was instantaneous! They changed direction so quick that the cameras could barely keep up... just amazing cars!
V10 era to me is the peak of F1. Cars were light at around 600 kgs. Power at around 900 bhp. By the V8 era, it gained weight and lost power. V6 hybrid era gained power again but gained weight too. V10 era is what an extreme race car is. The darty steering response is the effect of downforce on a car with a lightweight body. Alonso is the last of the breed from this era still racing in F1 right now.
I think it was a package back then. Imagine removing DRS now, we will see a train packed up from start to finish. I am an anti-drs person, but back then there were also pitstops with refueling, hence lighter (faster) cars and stuff like that. I think the teams also had more ability to do tests and develop their engines than they can do now.
This race is definitely an exception. You only remember the races where stuff actually happened, not the races where there were 0 overtakes outside of the pitlane, you basically had the results on saturday, and ferrari got a 1-2 by an absolutely enormous margin.

Murray Walker : IT'S GO! GO! GOOO!
@@haryokusumo6435 GOING THROUGH THE MIDDLE! OUCH! THIS IS FANTASTIC!
Kimi still racing even after a decade shows his class and he will be missed in 2021 surely 😭😭
He'll be racing again next year i reckon
@@cailvarker421 Kimi would race in a shoe-box if the FIA would allow it.
Cail Varker he said he will leave this year if the doesn’t have any fun
He's 40 years old man, give the man a chance to rest hahahahah
@@Dat-Mudkip Watch him finish in the points in a shoe-box aswell..
It’s crazy that Kimi has been racing in F1 more years than I’ve been alive. I’m 16
Alonso is the last of the breed from this era still racing in F1 right now.
the camerawork really shows how fast F1 cars are. nothing like what's happening now
James Allen + Martin Brundle is the best commentary booth we've ever had outside of Murray Walker + James Hunt.
I miss James Hunt and Walker. They didn’t agree on anything🤣
totally miss this
2:09 is my first memory of F1
Ok so Michael Fernando its faster than you
Dat some brutal move by Alonso and Kimi
Quando era um sport de verdade, e não essa palhaçada de hoje.
Those 2005 F1 cars look sick, perfect design for me. Not too blocky not too round.
I think the 2022 look the best since these 05 ones but these engines are the best sound ever
Overtaking without stupid Drs. That was real F1.
I want to Dee
And Mercedes doesn’t?
Well said. I'm so tired of DRS and easy straight-line overtakes.
MimM
Yh me too, but with nowadays cars as big as cruise ships we wouldn’t have overtakes at all haha
Kimi my forever favorite, F1 will never be the same without him! 👍👌🙏
Can we have James Allen back please.
Agree
James Allen or Murray Walker.
I thought some people used to complain about him 🤔 nah but actually he seems like a good commentator
@@SamuelSantos_ He got annoying once Hamilton arrived on scene in '07, but as a commentator he is miles above Crofty.
Allen is an unapologetic Hamilton fanboy. Dude is totally biased.
3 great champions fighting each other all race long. Wonderful stuff
the name of our hero when i was in 5th grade
Back when F1 had that wow factor...
Sadly no more these days.
@GT012345tube he is not really talking about competitiveness. It's about the sound of the cars, the shape of the cars, risky overtakes (with no penalties), drivers being more aggressive etc. Maybe 2021 is a competitive season compared to what it was in the recent past but there are other things that still just don't feel right... If you lived through that era you know what I mean.
Kobayashi deserved to be supported and to get sponsors, much more than Sato.
Kamui was the best driver Japan has ever produced, IMO.
@@raggandb I feel that he was treated unfairly in comparison to other Japanese drivers.
@@drybones7475 glad he's found success in endurance racing, if that's a compensation of sorts
Well who knew that Sato would go on and win 2 Indy 500s and almost win a 3rd?
Classic f1 but with modern graphics 👌
And it’s…………………….. GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
"Did you see that? I went around the outside of m.s. at 130r. Thats gotta be one of the best passes of all time"
"Well done Fernando, now do it again ok 15 laps"
Can you do the Indy 2005 extended highlights??
Lord, send me back to the 2000s please...and leave me there!

those were the days when cars can follow everybody, refuel and teams can opt to change their tyres or not because tyres can last. and also kimi celebrating a win like a win
this is a racer moment!
2:08 that is the most epic overtake I’ve ever seen!
Do you think that Raikkonen’s move on Fisichella wasn’t epic?
@@PessiAndPenaldoggyAreFinished Kimis move was way better and more epic.... way more epic. Alonsos move wasn't even epic.
@@PessiAndPenaldoggyAreFinished it's who the overtake was made on. Msc>
ah that Mclaren, beautiful, wicked fast and a ticking time bomb on wheels
1:31 "lucky strike". XD
this was racing
5:30 I get goosebumps every time I watch that.
Big Emotion. Mercedes power with Raikkonen. One of the best race ever.
Im just going to be happy that Alonso comes back. Who wouldve thought, I was always rooting for Räikkönen but Alonso is a legend too, great to have himback next year. Ik he has two champs and of course he is a legend but now also I love to see him race once again
I hope he wins at Alpine but I don't think he will be able to beat Red Bull and Mercedes in time
@@oftengoneOne more win maybe in 2022 would be great
Que corrida épica do Kimi
I love the engine sounds and the commentary.
“The mother and father of all shunts” 😂🤣😭
