It takes a while to do it right. Besides, replacing decaying infrastructure now is a lot cheaper, safer, and faster than dealing with a roadway or building collapse if the old structure gives way.
Given that it seems like this is barely below street level, in fact that the roof of the station is the bottom of the slab and the top of the slab is street level, that would seem to require excavation to lower the floor of the station? That would be… expensive.
Well they also gave a ton of funding to infrastructure around the country recently. That has allowed for many projects that were previously stalled or delayed in the planning or initial construction stages to get moving again. This is not to say that they shouldn't stop sending military equipment to Israel, they really should, but that this is not a case of money for infrastructure being diverted to the military.
Blame the forebears who signed Budapest Memorandum of security assurances 🤷 Yes it would be a different situation if Ukraine had not been tricked to give up its nukes by signatories such as the US, UK and RU.
I wish the MTA would just build a full-fledged rail line on the IBX line instead of a meager light-rail line that will immediately be at full capacity when it opens. But hey, the money is going to Ukraine and Israel. They need it more than us, right?
Ukraine? Yes. Israel? They definitely don't need it. But hey, maybe we can start pulling money away from the Pentagon until they can pass a single audit.
Bravo! I would love to see MTA put out a video about the new entrance at the subway station for grand central

Wow that's pretty cool.
Great job MTA!!
Awesome stuff 🤘
Love to see infrastructure get built.
It's about time. Some of the platforms and tracks were already in bad shape when I used to commute to and from the GST 20 years ago.
Very interesting 👍
Good work
Wow!
So when are you gonna extend the Shuttle all the way into GCT? And how about some people mover belts in the Penn MTA transfer passageway?
Never.
People movers. You mean feet?
Will you be able to see the Metro North trains from the street?
No. The real estate above is too valuable.

all this work and then comes ConEd and breaks it up and do a crap repave
If they would think ahead (which they probably don't), they would rebuild it with provision for future overhead electrification.

Building and construction in NYC must be such a nightmare
Putting the money down where the people are!!
The US Shoudve put funding at infrastructure upgrades and not giving billions of dollars to israel

Ukraine aid is excellent value for money for the US taxpayers.
