Some hits, some misses, some testing gone wrong. Pls excuse my heated meltdown at the end. After a 15 min break and 2 glasses of water I felt much better and continue in Part 2
Those vases are stunning! I haven't thrown anything that tall yet myself. The decorations and carving on them made them perfect. Wow, everything you made are so beautiful. We have finally cooled down quite a bit here in Utah.
Thank you for sharing ! I really understand the heat. I live in the Sacramento valley in California and we have 100 degree days regularly during the summer and well into September. This year we’ve had so much more humidity and I find I can’t work in my studio for more than a few hours earlier in the day. Love your work and I hope you’re ok.
Oh Sally!!! I LOVE the ribbed lanterns sooo much! Wow. Great idea to wax the rims of the mugs!! I really hope your able to get new glaze that hardpanned. I bought 11 different glazes from a woman and they were all full gallons. Come to find out they were all EXTREMELY hard panned!! Such a huge waste of money. Please bring out a good insulated thermos full of cold water before you do a kiln opening. You look so uncomfortable. I’m so glad you listened to your body and rested.
Thanks Michele. The lanterns are actually vases with a base. Add water below the carved area. Yes it was so hot - I usually plough thru it but this time heat got the better of me. Thanks for caring.
Hi Sally! I’m so happy to have found you. I’m part of ClayShare (going on year 3) and Jess speaks highly of you in some her lives I’ve seen. Your video is packed full of so much helpful information. Those Luminaries are spectacular! I got up to 9 1/2” with a cylinder last week for the first time & I felt like it was 16” until I measured! Can I ask how many pounds of clay you used for those pieces? Nice system for the lids & jars! I absolutely love the shape of those mugs! They’re gorgeous! Wow 💜💜 No need for apologies!
I love the tall hurricanes! You should be ecstatic! Did you throw them in one piece, or join two pieces together? The mugs with the color inside and snow outside turned out great.
Never heard that term hardpan before but Ive gotten 2 glazes that are that too.. tried soaking the hard clump with water for 6 mo, didnt do anything...
Another great video Sally. Really enjoyed it...Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing I feel for you heat just kills me
I love your idea of waxing the rims of mugs when you glaze them. All your pieces are lovely!
I struggled with overlapping colours on the rim and this solved it. It was time consuming but well worth it. Thanks.

I was fine with a 15 min break and two glasses of water. Thanks for caring.
I’d love to see a video of how you throw, trim, and glaze the little cookie jars and the Sea Spray and Egg shell lanterns.
Ask and Ye shall receive. I have to remake a cookie jar so will tape it.

I have to look in my notes for clay amounts. I made them thick knowing I would carve them. They are vases with bases but can also work as a luminary.

I threw them in one piece 16” , 15” &14” measured when wet. They have a base so can be used as a vase.
