Sapele really is nice. I appreciate the simple forms because quite often they require the most skill to get right. There is nowhere to hide any mistake. Nice set of containers.
Thank you for inspiring me to come out of a semi-comatose/semi-retired state. I have assembled most of the tools(and many that are niceties like my sawmill) needed to be a turner, but never gave it a go. I'm deep into the learning process now and it is so much more satisfying than my previous career. Luckily, I have a pension that covers all my recurrent expenses and health insurance; giving me time to develop into an income producing turner. I spent my childhood farming and working in the woods, so it feels a lot like coming home. Now, I just need to sell this oversized, overpriced subdivision box and get back into the sticks. I think the neighbors would appreciate me, and my noises, relocating...LOL.
I retired last year bought a couple midi lathes learning how to use chisels does get a little expensive to get good tools but you don't have to have too many have fun I have had hours of fun myself
I come from a long line of coffee drinkers, so a tea caddy never occurred to me. I love the examples you have made here! The suction fit is perfect, and each piece blends form and function. Thanks!
Sir, your English is better than that of most of the people I know in my part of the US - and you turn wood beautifully. 😊 Thank you for your excellent instruction.
Hi, you are one of my favorite tuners to watch, Ilearn alot from.Don;t worry about your english it is very good. I have never misunderstood anything you have said because you said it wrong. Yourenglish is very good. Keep up the good work
Awesome, Tom. I like the design. I have a bunch of maple that needs a look like that. Keep stacking the cards in your favor. It benefits us all when you do.
Wonderful set of boxes and great suction fit for the lids. Great overview of the details for getting a good lid fit (I should have watched this before I turned today 😃) That Sapele really is a beautiful wood and finishes great.
You make very precise work look easy. That is one of the signs of mastery! All 4 are similar while each has distinctive features. That's art. Like you, I often hollow small end grain boxes with a gouge and scraper. Slightly larger work or when the mood strikes me, I hollow with a hook tool. I've made about 6 with differing curves and offsets. I'd appreciate your thoughts on using a hook tool for end grain work in a future vides. Keep up the inspiration!
Thank you John, Honestly I don't use hook tool,I just never been around one and Here we are more based on these classic gouges and scrapers. Now that being said, I did watch a lot of Japanese turners and proper hook tool they made there own works lovely and without too much effort.... And its 99%cutting wood and that will give nice finish... I just find using scrapers to finish endgrain stuff more user frendly and also more control for me.... Again hook tools are great once mastered.
Nice work! Have you ever tried the trick of looking at your work right side up and upside down? Taking a picture is the best way to do it. It proves interesting!
I love these I just did a couple of a very similar pot out of redwood just to practice I was very happy with mine but I prefer yours.Think I might copy yours in some nice hardwood next weekend.
Another new thing to try for me. My list is getting very long now. I have some cherry to chop and part turn this afternoon. I think I know what I'm doing with it now.
Beautiful boxes. Love the fit of the top and bottom. I take it is the long tenon with a close fit that creates the slow close and slight pop at release, correct?
Yes,well its much easier to get it that way instead of having short small connection.... This was inspired by smartphone boxes that have that kind of fit ☺️
You do really nice work and interesting designs. I notice your finish of choice seems to be oil. What kind of oil is it, as I found that oil tended to need redoing in about 6 months. Lately my finish of choice on smaller pieces such as these or trinket boxes is home made shellac friction polish that dries practically instantly. These pieces and finish look beautiful by the way.
Thank you Ronald, I use either tung oil with citrus solvent or linseed oil.... Both work great and I like that kind of look, some may not.... Friction polish is good also , and if you like it,stick with it☺️
Hi, I am a big fan and a novice turner. I notice on this video that this is not your Record Power lathe, which Lathe is it please? I ask because I am thinking about a new Lathe and I know if you are using it, it will be a great lathe!! Thank you so much for all the content you share and big hugs to you from Menorca Spain!! Alan.
Hi Alan, I had 2 record power lathes and then ks lathe and now I have this little gem.... Killinger 1450, you can check it here drechslershop.de/en/wood-lathe-killinger-km-1450-se?sPartner=ttw Its a great lathe , in few months I'll do review as well.
Another excellent video! As for your English, that is also excellent. You have an easy command of idioms and seem to be as conversant as, well, most Americans I know. And who needs articles?! Just adds to the cool accent -- youcan now play a spy in a James Bond movie. What you _can't_ do is tech support on the phone. Your English is too good!
Sapele really is nice. I appreciate the simple forms because quite often they require the most skill to get right. There is nowhere to hide any mistake. Nice set of containers.
You are quite justifiably proud of that set. Who wouldn't be? thanks for posting.
And rightly proud. A beautiful set and an excellent show of your craftsmanship, skills and artistry. Thanks very much indeed!
Thank You Joris, I look forward for package to be delivered 😀
Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.

I do sometimes, also its great design practice ☺️
I do that too. I also have a mirror in my shop for the same purpose.
Nicely done. I still struggle with boxes, but am getting better .
Practice makes perfect🤗
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Or as the revised saying goes: Practice makes permanent!
Yet another great video

Nice set of tea caddies the new owner should really enjoy those. Do you sign the bottoms using a pen?
Pyrography pen yes, that way is more perminent 😀

Again another Wow! So much dexterity! The sizes are roughly 50 x 130 mm ?
130 by little less then 70mm
Where do I find that thickness caliper you are using?
Gurtool.cz
Another excellent video!

Thank you very much 🤗
Nice work,
What oils do you use?
I rarely use anything as a finish on the inside which may impart smell or taste to the contents.
Thank you, I use either tung oil with citrus solvent or linseed oil.... Usually inside once oil is fully curred its ok for keeping food related stuff
Food safe mineral oil has no taste or odor. I keep it in the kitchen for wooden utensils, bowls and cutting boards.
