I wanted to check in because I made notes of your reading prompts when the video posted and those are the books that I've read so far inspired by your prompts (it should be noted that I picked out of order from the list based on what I was in the mood to read and also availability at the library): 1) A Booktuber or Bookstagrammer’s Favourite Book of 2023 - Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. This one was... interesting. I like how unique it is and the fact that it is open to interpretation. Will not make my personal top list of the year, though. 2) Backlist Book by a Favourite Author - Us Against You from Fredrik Backman. I have not been disappointed by a single book from this author so far. 3) A Book Set in a City, Town or Region Where You’ve Lived Longer Than a Year - À l'ombre de la Sainte Mafia from Claire Bergeron. The story is set in the area where I grew up. 4) Read a Book By An Author You’ve Never Read Before - The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine 5) A Book with a Snake on the Cover - I had borrowed Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and I could quickly tell that this would not be my style. DNF'ed it about 50 pages in. I am following your lead and making a conscious effort to DNF books to move on to better fits. That is the whole reason I got my library card in the first place: to not feel guilty about not finishing a book (which is harder to do if I paid for it out of pocket).
Ooooh sounds like you’re doing super duper well with these all ready. Hope you’ve been having fun reading them. Sounds like a really inheriting mix so books too. I have inky read one of those, Piranesi.
Funny enough, when this video ended, an old SavidgeReads video automatically began in which Louise is having a problem adjusting all her pillows, and one of the pillows falls behind the couch. 😂
That has been a problem for quite some time. I am possibly getting a new sofa in the library, the makeover begins, so that may sort the situation out permanently haha.
@@SavidgeReads no not at all, it's lovely and without being too deep I lost my mum several years ago so it's extra special to see that - reminds me of me and my mum dissolving into fits of giggles. The bits where your mum is silently reading a prompt and she's unconsciously pulling a face that makes you laugh, those bits really made me laugh.
I could watch videos of the two of you together all day, the dynamic between you makes me laught and smile. And I always end up with a lot of new amazing book recommendations!
Awwww thank you. We’ve not done a collab for a while. Maybe we can make it happen when I join her on holiday later this week… though also maybe we should just have a holiday. Ha.
31 days in January 😂❤ love you two! Happy New Year 🎉 Also think my first Savidge Prompt read will either be Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo or The Essex Serpent!
Alas it doesn't here, that said I have read it. I had the pleasure of hosting Juno on her book tour for that very book. I have also read my book with a snake on the cover, so January prompt completed, woohoo.
Volcano, immediately thought of Graham Greene but it was written by Lowry, so that's wrong. Susan Sontag has a Volcano on the cover of one of her books. Starting the year with a laugh, Dorsey's Naked Came the Florida Man, love those psychopaths Serge and Coleman. Happy New Year!🎉
That could not have been more delightful! January’s a tough one because I actively avoid books with snakes on the cover because I’m terrified of snakes. But I’ve got at least one that fits the bill, Emezi’s Freshwater. Happy New Year, Savidges!
Watching you two is far better than tuning in to the TV! January will see me reading The Marriage Portrait which has a snake on the cover. I think one of the hardest ones is the volcano on the cover, so if anyone is struggling there is a short read (circa 140 pages) by Kate Mosse called The Black Mountain. Happy New Year to you both and thank you for doing the prompts again.
That is the Kate Mosse book I mentioned to mum, The Black Mountain. It is great, supper short but packs a punch. There is also a Canadian book called My Volcano which is the one I will be heading to. There's some other fab recommendations on the Storygraph challenge too. Glad you enjoyed the video!
My favourite video of the new year! Thanks so much to both of you. Can we just take a moment to acknowledge Louise’s ‘that’s rocking’ comment? Hilarious! Any suggestions on an author called Kirsten!?
Oooh blimey no. I am struggling with my own name and books on my own shelves. Haha a I would just do a search on StoryGraph. Really glad you enjoyed the video!!
Yessss Louise bringing the New Year's sparkles! ✨ Love these prompts - lots of fun stuff in here. Not sure I'll be able to do every month as I'm just about hoping to keep up with my own prompts, but will shop my shelves to see what might fit some of these. As ever, love your collab videos ❤
Ha, they aren't compulsory Ben, Mum has left teaching so no detentions will be issued if you don't do them all or any at all. I need to watch your prompt video, I shall over my crumpets this morning.
That’s just what we wanted it to be. Jumping off points, well prompts, for your shelves/the library etc. Though it’s not a book list, more a potential reading list!
Great fun watching you two together. Love the pink highlights, Louise, noticed them in your 2023 prompts video! Prompts sound like fun. Won’t be able to do may, but may use my husband’s first name! Now it’s time to scour the shelves!!
Ooh. Some good ones! Louise Gluck came to mind first. Simon Armitage would pair nicely. As someone else said there is a volcano on some copies of Malcolm Lowry's Under the Volcano. There's also Shusaku Endo's Volcano, but that's pretty grim. There's a snake on some covers of Brian Jacques' Red Wall. I might get to Gluck this year.
It is a corking list of prompts, I love how challenging and bonkers some are... especially as I am going to be shopping my shelves for them, not shopping elsewhere for them. Ha!
Oooh I hadn't heard of any of those, though looks like they aren't really the sort of books I read and prompts for me are about books I have on the shelves, not buying new ones ha. I have an idea for one... but I am not sure if it is a cheat or not. Going to do some mulling over.
Not walking under a ladder is more like common sense than superstition, IMO 😅 Incidentally, there is also Louise Penny for the Louise read - who wouldn’t want to spend a couple of days with Armand in Three Pines?
Ha, to be fair I don't actually think we said at first, we just assumed which makes an ass out of u and me, hahaha. Glad you are thinking of joining in with the prompts.
I do love watching the two of you together, I must say! Some of these are going to be a lot easier to sort than others. May not have the right book in my TBR piles, but that’s what the library is for! Louise should give the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny a go, I think! Happy New Year to you both. Thanks for the laughter on the first day of 2024!
Exactly what the library is for. Not sure what the library situation is like for mum but I should definitely use mine more... and the one in Liverpool although it is always a teeny bit awkward going back there hahaha.

The third one was a book that had been long or shortlisted for any book prize that you are yet to read (as in title you’re yet to read, not prize you’re yet to read).
It was a book up for a prize we haven't read from before, Dunk Biscuit has confirmed, lol. But to be honest, if you are joining in do what you like with the prompts, it is all just meant to be fun.

I am so cross with myself, I thought I had that very book on my shelves, spent ages hunting for it but think I culled it at some point - sigh! Thankfully there are other options but that one instantly sprung to mind. I spend ages hunting high and low, ha!
It is really easy to import your books from Goodreads to Storygraph so you don't lose anything. Also it is an indie black owned start up which has no links to Amazon!
March was me. I could have written that better! My aim was to encourage people to find new books via not the usual prizes! 😂
Brilliant idea!! 👍. Thought it was very clear…don’t know why they were faffing around 🤣.

Coincidentally, I was already planning on reading a book with a snake on the cover in January: The Man Who Spoke Snakish by Andrus Kivirähk.
I am so cross with myself, I thought I had that very book on my shelves, spent ages hunting for it but think I culled it at some point - sigh! Thankfully there are other options but that one instantly sprung to mind. I spend ages hunting high and low, ha!
Hehe, I'm a Capricorn too.
Neither of us are capricorns lol.
@@SavidgeReads oh dear, sorry, must have misunderstood 🤭
Louise Penny Canadian author to add to author with same name!
My thoughts exactly. She could start with the first in Louise Penny’s “Chief Inspector Gamache” series entitled “Still Life.”
I think mum and I are both going to try and go for books on our shelves and I know mum has more Louise Doughty she really wants to read.
Storygraph? Maybe I should try it and give Goodreads a break. Any readers out there have any advice on this?
It is really easy to import your books from Goodreads to Storygraph so you don't lose anything. Also it is an indie black owned start up which has no links to Amazon!
@SavidgeReads oh, wow! Now I really want to switch over! I'm giving it a test, so hopefully, I'll see how it works for me. 💚
O no. May will be difficult
Oooh!!!
Will the word "quartet" work for the bonus round?
Hahaha. Sadly not. Has to be the word ‘two’ or a ‘four’ for 2024.
@@SavidgeReads oh, all right.... you're such a taskmaster, Simon! 🤪
@@onourpathhahaha. Hardly. This was one that was very specific though. Well they all are TBF.
Oddly enough, I started watching The Essex Serpent TV adaptation just today! Ps. I know that doesn't count. Will need to find something else 🐍
My Kindle edition of The Little Friend by Donna Tartt has a snake on the 'cover'.
Then it counts.
I still haven't watched that, I should. I will!
Good Lord, what are you two like?! 😝
I hope that comment is a good thing hahaha.
@@SavidgeReads 😘
Another day, another cardigan. I told you it was a slippery slope. Just sayin’.
Ha, I do have a few in my wardrobe already, though this was a festive treat to me from me. I am on the hunt for one that makes me look like Bagpuss.
She looks too young to have a son your age, dude.
Hahaha. We’re both very young hahaha. People often don’t believe we’re not siblings. But she’s my mum, I promise.
