  • Airport officials without relevant expertise are making life-or-death decisions about people who might seek refugee protection in Australia, according to a new policy brief from UNSW’s Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law. Here, a man who fled Saudi Arabia’s anti-gay policies tells what happened when he experienced Australia’s ‘entry screening’ process.
The policy brief authors recommend reforms that should be made before international travel resumes following the COVID-19 pandemic.
To understand the process and how it can be reformed, read the policy brief, ‘Assessing Protection Claims at Airports: Developing procedures to meet international and domestic obligations, written by Regina Jefferies (Kaldor Centre), Daniel Ghezelbash (Macquarie Law School), and Asher Hirsch (Refugee Council of Australia/Monash University).
    Read the brief at:

So don't lie on your visa application, don't put "tourism" or "business" when you are in fact seeking migration.

Not sure, I don't most Australians are. It's very difficult to find out information about our legal processes and legislation here.
We are the only Western Country in the world that basic human rights are not protected by any law/legislation

Nope. Nothing has changed. I was looking at the "Protection Visas At the Border" document just the other day and we do the same thing we have been doing since 2013. It's available on the DHA website following a FOI request, though admittedly it was very hard to find.

I am definitely not a lawyer, just a senior student studying law within Australia, however under Article 1A(2) of the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees you have a right to seek asylum if your under serious threat within your country of origin and your country of origin cannot protect you from persecution. Try to resolve the issue through domestic measures, record these attempts if they fail and the original threats against your life and then you will have a strong basis to apply for asylum within Australia. Once again I am just a student but this is my understanding.

@@hamidnawaz168 this is wrong you have a human right to choose your religion and if your being forced to change religion under the threat of death that constitutes for a well-founded fear and therefore you have a right to seek asylum
