Sounds like something my Mexican grandpa would do. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a story from my aunts or mom considering my Papa is a lot like my stepfather and my stepfather would take random shit from my room if he was irritated(Not stuff I needed, just random items that I didn’t need and I’d get them back in a week or so).

Here’s my theory on the trash can shuffle. Irondad was annoyed with mouse’s comment “why do you have a cell phone if you don’t answer it” and they wanted to make the point of “the parents giveth, and the parents can taketh away. So honor your parents little mousey”
Well she’s a grown bubblemouse, there’s really not much they can do to her that won’t hurt her, so taking her normal trash can for a short period (not really harmful or inconvenient), then giving her a small child sized trash can (reminding her she’s still the kid compared to them) then swapping it back with a smile, all seemed like some kind of parental lesson thing about remember to respect them and what they provide.

Gawd this reminds me of the stories I have about my parents. Like trying to describe why something your parents do is funny is so hard, especially as an adult, especially when it involves an aspect you don't like about them and you are calling out, but you and your parent are both laughing because you both know it's true. Other people don't get why it's hilarious because all they see is the behavior you don't like, not that you've accepted it to a degree and learn how to navigate it and laugh about it.
