- Tonight I saw Ace Frehley for the 16th time in concert between his time in KISS and as a solo artist. It was like hanging out with an old friend.
#acefrehley #kissband #hardrockcafe #citywalk #orlando
The best video ive seen of Ace is where he's getting out of a towncar for an appearance at a record store. He takes one step and almost walks directly into an 8 foot potted plant. He looks up at the plant and says "Oh, excuse me".....to a plant.
"Thrills in the Night" is my all time favorite Kiss song. Nobody really talks about that song very much idk why
Many thanks for the video man🤘
@@dimebagdave77 Thanks for checking it out!
This was great 👍 Thanks ❤
@@Acelespaul Thanks for checking out the video!
If this show tells me anything, it's that I really, really want a blue Firebird. That guitar steals the show sound-wise!
I was there and had a Great Time! Such a Fun Show!!
@@denisevanderveer7927 Agreed!
If people are expecting a 1977 Ace then they are delusional. He is 73 years old. You go there to see Ace Frehley, not to see him play like he was 25. He sucked as a singer but was absolutely a great guitarist for Kiss and solo. Simmons and Stanley need to be grateful that he was a major component in launching Kiss despite his partying.
@@joesmith1830 💯
How old is Paul McCartney? How old is Eric Clapton? How old are the guys from Iron Maiden? How old is Keith Richards?
He was high as a kite and couldn't even stay focused.
@@joesmith1830 That’s a junior level high argument from a KISStard
I've been an Ace fan since 1975 but it seems he doesn't give a shit anymore. He could perform better if he cared.
@@michaeldantoni4292 Been a fan since ‘75 as well and I do get what you’re saying. This definitely wasn’t Ace’s best night. However, at age 73 I think he’s earned a right to have an off performance. He’s also about a week out from breaking up with his girlfriend and it seemed to me they were pretty serious. That’s gotta take a toll mentally as well. Anyway, not trying to be an apologist for Ace but I just think the guy was having a rough night and there’s probably more to it than he just “doesn’t care” anymore.
@allendunn4388 he has been like this the last couple years. Nothing to do with the break up.
@@Rockandrollgeerage Maybe so, yeah. Last time I saw Ace live before this was 2018 and he did play a lot better. Anyway, whatever the reason, I’m just glad he’s up there at 73 years old still plugging away.
I doubt it. And I say that as a fan of Ace and a lover of KISS.
What you're seeing, based on my experience in dealing with substance abusers for years, is probably the result of neurodegeneration. If you notice, he has good shows and he has bad shows.
If you watch his technique from his late 1970s performances, then look at the 1990s reunion footage - you will see a noticeable decline in his overall skills.
His phrasing was decent enough in the 1970s to hang with the status quo. For what kind of player he was, he was above average.
By the mid 1990s, his phrasing became muddled and his technique started to look wonky. Now, compare today to both eras. His technique is way wonky and way loose, by comparison, almost like a Parkinson's patient.
There is a price to be paid for years of alcohol abuse when it comes to fine motor skills. Your motor neurons are at the very least deprived of their essential B vitamins on a chronic basis -- B vitamins that are crucial to producing neurotransmitters.
Eventually that leads to neuro-degeneration. I have nothing against alcohol in moderation, but long term abuse is long term ingestion of a toxic substance and it causes harm to all sorts of cellular systems in the body.
It becomes especially worse in guitar players as they age, even non drinking ones, if they don't regularly practice (with there always being exceptions because everyone is different).
Neal Schon is over 70 and still about as good as he ever was. But the guy plays every single day. He is well practiced. That makes a difference in any endeavor that involves movement and a fine motor skill.
@@freepressright Your detailed comments make total sense, and most likely are the reason. But I have noticed in various interviews that his ego has a lot to do with it also. Nothing against Ace at all , because I will always be a fan of his , but I think he is a bit delusional.
We have the same taste in music. My favorite guitar player has always been Ace Frehley . Saw KISS in 79, 96, 2000. Met Ace at a Kiss convention in Atlanta in 96. Saw him in 2021 with Alice Cooper in Jacksonville. Then you mentioned George Lynch. I saw Dokken 3 times in the 80s , and I saw George last year in Destin. Got him to sign a signature SD screamin demon pickup for me.
Yeah, it seems like we do! Ace and George are always number 1 & 2 for me. I got to see Dokken back in 1988 not long before they broke up the original lineup the first time. Then I saw George solo and with Lynch Mob probably about 6-7 times over the years. Most recently I saw him with Lynch Mob again in Clearwater about 3 months ago. Here is some video I took at that show if you are interested. I was right up on the stage so the footage is pretty close on this one: ua-cam.com/video/pZflZtoYdFs/v-deo.htmlsi=Qq9qsuRI12qnpkat
I got to meet George a handful of times over the years and he was always incredibly nice and never acted like a "star".
When did Bernie Sanders start a band ?
YO, ACE! I'M COMIN' FOR YA 🛡️ THE KISS ARMY KNIGHT WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE, WEARING A FULL SPACE SUIT. GOING BACK STAGE TO GET MY SPACE HELMET SIGNED 🧑🚀 I'M HOPING TO CATCH A GUITAR PICK, I'LL BE IN THE FOURTH ROW. BEST SEAT I COULD GET. ROCK SOLDIER IN THE HOUSE 💥💥💥
That is cool man. I believe my brother’s first was the Animalize tour when he was 17. He bought me the tour shirt and tour book. My last KISS concert was 2014 with Def Leppard. My other half can’t attend concerts any longer due to a car accident. Flashing lights and loud music bother her. I had to jump at the chance to see Ace. I don’t attend concerts like I used to and wish to go more often. I watched the last KISS show on PPV. Very lucky that you met all of the members. I am glad that I found you here. 😎👊🏻
@@dpc374 Same! Always love talking KISS and sharing stories with fellow fans. Feel free to email me at adunn@whoever.com anytime you want to swap stories! Take care my friend. 😎
This has Good Audio ❤
I was there, I found out a day before the show that Lara broke up with him. Had a feeling the show would be bad and I was right. To his credit I have seen a few videos of shows after this one and he seemed back to normal. So I'll cut him some slack.
Well he was part of the KISS family. He was Paul Stanley’s guitar tech for two decades while also being the one behind the curtain that screams you wanted the best, you got the best. He died of Covid while on the road with them. His mom was my babysitter during my elementary school time and he was close friends with myself and my older brother. During nap time, he used to take me to his bedroom where it was wall to wall KISS. The whole top level of the house was his bedroom. It was KISS heaven. Then your job is to work in KISS is amazing!
@@dpc374 I know exactly who that is, but the name escaped me, my apologies. That was such a terrible thing. I went to that show in Tampa as well. Couldn’t believe that when I heard. Were you still close to him recently?
@@allendunn4388 I saw him over the years during tours. With him living in California and being on the road a lot, I wasn’t able to see him much. Saw him when I traveled to NY to see friends and family and he happened to be visiting. Saw him backstage at a meet and greet and that was the last time I had seen him. My older brother notified me of the tragic news. I can’t not think of him every day due to KISS. They have been apart of me for 48 years.
@@dpc374 I’m really sorry for your loss. It’s never easy losing a friend unexpectedly.
I completely get where you are coming from with KISS being such a major part of our lives. I’ve been a fan since Alive! was released in ‘75 and I was 8 years old. They really are part of who I am.
Thank you my good man. You are my next oldest brother’s age. I started listening to them in 76 due to him. I was only 2 lol. My first record was a 45 of Rock N Roll All Nite. My first full album was Alive 2. I received the 1977 Mego dolls for Christmas that year that I still have and I sported the KISS lunchbox to school. I was born at the right time. I got to meet Eric Carr’s parents. His father asked me if I wanted to purchase Eric’s Porsche that he received when he joined KISS. I lived near where they had Eric’s funeral and where he was laid to rest. I had Gene and Paul autograph my arms and then got them tattooed. To say that KISS is a part of me is an understatement 😂
@@dpc374 yeah it’s interesting how they have become ingrained into our everyday lives after all these decades. I managed to meet Eric Carr a couple of times back in the late 80s and was there the night he met Carrie Stevens in Memphis at the Peabody Hotel (not that I was aware of that until many years later). Some of my coolest memories have come from my KISS fandom as well as some lifelong friendships.
This was painful to watch. I feel bad for the back up band having to carry him.
There comes a time in everybody’s life where you can no longer do what you love and Ace you have reached the end of your career !! This is so bad that it’s sad to watch but what’s worst people paid to see you perform and you didn’t deliver !! This is a train wreck, time to ride into the sunset Ace !! By the way this is Gene’s old backing band seams they left Gene after Ace played a gig with Gene years ago and they went with Ace there’s a video of that show on this platform !! Again this is very sad to watch but even harder to listen to !!
Hey, if Biden can be a president, Frehley can be a rockstar. Right?
Is he drunk? Yea...I know, I know.
But again,
Is he drunk???
pain pills it seems like
@@gnarshred1239 Well, it's not good. Don Dokken touted for years he never did drugs or drank much. Yet, his own band members have been on record countless times that Don was heavily into hard prescription drugs.
Аce наверно самый талантливый из kiss

What a drunken drug induced disaster of concert!
Love Ace but damn, that was garbage.
I was there 3rd row. Quite the hike from the parking garage in the sweltering heat. I think I got sick due to going to the concert, but had a great time and met him after the show.
@@dpc374 That is a drawback to attending a show there…the lengthy walk. That sucks you got sick though. Cool you met him! Was that your first time meeting the legend?
I would not mind the walk so much if it wasn’t so hot and muggy. Breeze helped, but I could not wait to get inside. Wait to meet him was 2 hours. It was the first time I met him. It was worth it to me though. I had him autograph my 1st grade 8 X 10 school picture that was taken in 1980 with a KISS shirt on. I have met Gene and Paul and had them autograph it as well. I just need to get Peter’s. Wow! I just saw your name is Allen Dunn. I grew up with a neighbor by that name and he is a huge KISS fan as well.
@@dpc374 Yeah that’s true. I’ve been living in Florida for almost 20 years and the summers never get easier. Actually I grew up in Memphis, TN and it gets just as hot and muggy there. Definitely a small world that you grew up with an Allen Dunn who was a massive KISS fan. Where did you grow up if you don’t mind my asking?
Congrats meeting Ace! I’ve been lucky enough to have met him 4-5 times over the years.
@@allendunn4388 I have been living in FL for 8 years now. I grew up 90 minutes north of NYC. Yes. The guy is 10 years older than me. My older brothers were closer to him than I was. Their family was originally from NC. Their father built a stage in their backyard and they would put on KISS concerts. Good times. Glad you posted the video. Hope he comes back to Orlando. 😎👊🏻

I don't understand why so many people worships Frehley, like he was a great guitar player. Is a very under the average player, and besides that a very self destructive person.

Ace just looks defeated lmao 😂😂😂…
At the 18:33 mark. So Ace has a 5 piece band. Ace, the bass player, rhythm guitarist, the drummer and the additional guitar player hiding behind the amps. Interesting.
@@draven782 Interesting. I didn’t notice him at that point but that was the guy who kept bringing Ace new guitars between songs so I assume he was tuning up the next guitar.
That's his tech tuning his guitars.
That's rocko his guitar tech

@@gnarshred1239 Appreciate the info.
Seems like he's on something or maybe just burned out from back in day from partying
Anti depressants and alcohol
He should just not play 10k Volts. I don't think he did much writing it and he plays like that and doesn't care. I hope he is stay sober also. Though at 73 I guess he can do what he wants but I won't pay a ticket for it like I did in 78 to see Kiss as a kid.
Ace is going through the motions. Super boring

Horrible. Time to give it up! Glad I didn’t pay for this. 😂
Terrible!
Ace is the most overrated guitarist. He's not as great as people think he is, he's awful.
@@bobabooey4537 everyone is entitled to their opinion.
He was good in the 70s and 80s.. that's about it
He was as good as he needed to be in order to hang in the 70s. While never a virtuoso, he was competent at being an evolved Keith Richards type player.
His peak was probably 1979-1980 He sounded great on that tour with Eric Carr. But by the 1990s, his skills had declined noticeably. Now, he's akin to the noodlers at the local Guitar Center. He plays almost like he has neuro-degeneration, and he may well, considering all the alcohol and hard drugs, hand in hand with the chronic malnutrition that goes along with that lifestyle.
Love his work, but he's indeed far past his prime.
Actually, Clapton is the most overrated guitarist but he could sing and write really good though.
Bit pointless uploading a crappy shaky grainy video of this a week after the show when a 4K steady one went up the next day dude.
