Yep that's a good way to put it! Sometimes what you do for a living (i.e. conservative office clothing, for example) may contrast with your personality (i.e. you love streetwear, or cowboy boots or something) so you have to know how to dress for each occasion and when to dial it back vs. dressing however you want, based on what you like
The boys are back in town! Mine would be to use the Socratic method and ask why you like a certain outfit that you've seen and find out the root of why you like it. You'll discover patterns that will repeat with most outfits and things you gravitate towards, making it easier for you to start
Love this. Super important to really think things through as you start to dress better and figure out why you like certain looks if you want to create a truly personal style.
Be aware that your hair color and complexion have a lot to do with what will look good wearing. I have always liked the RL ads. They show various life styles and the clothing for most any activity.
earth tones FTW. I have a set of go-to colors I call "menswear neutrals". If you do a quick Google search for that, I get into it on the website (effortlessgent.com)
#1 for me is context. Wear clothing based on what you do for a living, your lifestyle and your personality. And don't over think it. :)
