Great. If only you could be cloned. The only problem is that at most jam sessions I go to you only hear far less than the same ten tunes called. A number of reasons I would suggest. The narrow view of jazz schools teaching. Notable exception: Joan Chamorro in Barcelona. Also too, the decline in gigs at weddings, events, etc. You cannot do such bookings without a repertoire of jazz standards. No such gigs. So, no incentive to learn them. At a recent jam session neither the pianist or the drummer had a clue about the structure, or knowledge of, Milestones (New version) How can you be a student at a jazz conservatory and be unaware of one of the most seminal albums of the twentieth century. Beatrice. Mood Indigo. Solitude. In a Sentimental Mood. Blues For Alice. Four. My One and Only Love. Easy Livin. Lush Life. LUSH LIFE!!! Lol, nobody them them all without a reminder or two...love your stuff you guys. I'm Beginning to See the Light, Spain, Our Love Is Here to Stay....Blue Skies, Surrey with the Fringe, If I Were a Bell, Someday My Prince Will Come, Wave of Babies, Star Eyes, Confirmation, Days of Wine and Roses, I love You, All of Me, All of You, Night and Day, basically the entire Cole Porter book (yes, you got What is This Thing Called Love), April in Paris, Teach me Tonight, Hot for Teacher, Speak Low, Nature Boy, Ceora, When I Fall in Love, Tangerine, Laura, It Had To Be You, Song for My Father, Sugar, the list goes on....
This is a superpower! I had to memorize about 50 standards in college and have them at the ready. But that was on saxophone. Having to remember all the voicings too is mind boggling to me.
Wow!! Thank you for the inspiration!! I'm still in kindergarten compared to you guys but I keep playin'. The mental part of it is huge and I appreciate seeing someone who can "change gears" so fluidly, being able to actually think the next tune while still playing a different one.
This has to go down in history as one of the great live one-take music films of all time (only competition - Steve Allen's "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" with Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and all the others, February 1958)
There Will Never be Another You Sweet Georgia Brown It Had to be You Someday My Prince will come Lotus Blossom Lush Life Sophisticated Lady Jumpin at the Woodside Straight No Chaser Watermelon Man Georgia on my Mind Tenderly having written that list - yours' was an amazing performance to play all of those Peter - bravo
There will never be another you, it had to be you, how high the moon, someday my prince will come, comes to mind off the top of my head, there are other great ones. I could probably come up with a hundred. absolutely great piano playing!,
You guys are the best. I joined last month and I wish I had a Time Machine to go back and join so that I could learn all the amazing lessons you have online. Watching Peter playing is astonishing.
🤟This is one of the best, snappy jazz music video I've ever seen! Congratulations! I had to reflect a bit, a few ones worth adding: Solar Fee Fi Fo Fum Nardis Beautiful Love I Fall In Love Too Easily Four on Six Autumn in New York Inner Urge Chi Chi My Romance I Hear a Rhapsody Blue Bossa
Blue Bossa, Take Five, Spain, Armando's rumba, All of me and lastly probably not a huge standard but i love it Bill Evens Very Early - All these i was missing
Thank you so much, gentlemen! That was sooooo fun! Some of those transitions you made on the fly were just wonderful and had me shouting, "yeah" at the screen. And your rhythmic sense is just...[chef's kiss]. I stood throughout the entire video and was on the edge of my seat (umm...even though I was standing...LOL). Wonderfully inspirational...and, I think, the sense of joy was heightened by hearing one great song after another. There is a reason those pieces are "standards!" Yes! 😁
i would not have had the discipline to only let peter play a few seconds of eaech standard haha. i would have let him played an extended 10 minute versoin, what a feel!!
There are 15 tunes that I've never played here; I know the rest. I made a list of jazz standards that I know and play a couple of months ago; came up with 85. Not too shabby for a guy who has to play pop/rock covers to make a living. I guess you could say jazz is my hobby and pop/rock is my livelihood.
happy to say that the only ones I didn't know were I Thought About You, Lullaby of Birdland, Minority, Blame It on My Youth, Evidence, Emily, There Is No Greater Love, Out of Nowhere, One Finger Snap, and Crazeology. 47/57 ain't bad!
Ok... that was like the most impressive thing I've ever seen... switching keys, time, songs... truly something. Only a handful of the pro's I've ever met or worked with in broadcast/advertising could pull off something like that... Bravo.
Where or When, Skylark, The Shadow of Your Smile, Corcovado, Scrapple from the Apple, Ornithology, How High the Moon, Memories of You, Jordu, Song for My Father, Take Five, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, East of the Sun/ West of the Moon, Mercy (3x)
Estate and Sail Away (Tom Harrell) are two running through my head and fingers right now... maybe Easy Living? Speak Low? My Foolish Heart? There's just too many good standards. Great job!
With all the Crappy "how to play Solo Jazz Piano" books out there, Pete, and believe me I have bought most of them, I wish you would do us all a favor and just give us a pdf download of Three Choruses of each tune on your list that we could all buy for $50. The Tune that is No. 1 on my List? "Without a Song". Cuz that jus about sums it up for me. Ain't Life Poetic? Cheers! Very enjoyable vid. Short and Sweet.
I can’t believe how many I recognized. Must be all those years of listening to Oscar Peterson. My new heartthrob is Chucho Valdez! Great work, I love you guys too!!
Here’s a few songs that deserve recognition. Stardust Skylark My ship I loves you porgy Someone to watch over me Ask me now Infant eyes Good bye porkbye hat Everything I love In your own sweet way In the wee small hours of the morning Isfahan
i'll remember april, spain, here's that rainy day, stars fell on alabama, yesterday, darn that dream, tis autumn, speak low, blue bossa, desafinado, all of me
thats funny 15 minutes ago when this was uploaded i started looking into jazz standards to use for my college audition... im 30 so im going back to school.... thanks for the post
i do this with other music all the time. i have my voice students do it with me sometimes. to teach them that music is very interchangeable and tiny nuances make big changes.
Almost like..., Fly me...., four-on-six, etc.. etc., but that isn't the point, the point is you gotta have that 'knowledge' and really know the songbook... inspiring !
Please next time let Peter play each tune a little longer. Man those excerpts were just amazing in themselves.
Wish I could have a full album of just his solo full renditions of all of these standards. Very impressive
Peter Martin is insane. To have that fluidity to randomly switch tunes and styles on a dime and nail it every time. That's next level musicianship
Well he got the song wrong a couple times..
Let's hear your take, bud@@Dudeface167 I'm sure it'll be flawless
@@Dudeface167 there's no wrong notes in jazz 😂
I really like how he lets one song sort of overflow into the next, sometimes even keeping the rhythm from the previous song intact.

Wow. You even transpose lots of the tunes on the fly! You are such a master, Peter. Congratulations.
I love this channel. Great humor, great musicians, great teaching
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This is amazing playing wow bravoooooo 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow!! Thank you for the inspiration!! I'm still in kindergarten compared to you guys but I keep playin'. The mental part of it is huge and I appreciate seeing someone who can "change gears" so fluidly, being able to actually think the next tune while still playing a different one.
Then Im in preschool 😂! But the journey is sooo FUN!
@@Julia29853 dam then im still at the hospital
This video of a clear example of mastery 🔥
Now that’s a harmonic mental workout! Awesomeness
This has to go down in history as one of the great live one-take music films of all time (only competition - Steve Allen's "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" with Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and all the others, February 1958)
EPIC.
The transitions are just masterful.
Ridiculous. What playing. How on earth do you remember all the tunes. Absolutely superb
@1:43 “so good”
I was saying that to myself the whole time!! 😃😃👍
There Will Never be Another You
Sweet Georgia Brown
It Had to be You
Someday My Prince will come
Lotus Blossom
Lush Life
Sophisticated Lady
Jumpin at the Woodside
Straight No Chaser
Watermelon Man
Georgia on my Mind
Tenderly
having written that list - yours' was an amazing performance to play all of those Peter - bravo
🙏🏼!!!
Black Narcissus, Afro Centric, Little B’s Poem, Totem Pole, Ceora, This is for Albert. So many!
I just added those Joe Hendersons to my playlist 🔥
🤟This is one of the best, snappy jazz music video I've ever seen! Congratulations!

Solar
Fee Fi Fo Fum
Nardis
Beautiful Love
I Fall In Love Too Easily
Four on Six
Autumn in New York
Inner Urge
Chi Chi
My Romance
I Hear a Rhapsody
Blue Bossa
Peter you are such a killer pianist sir, a true master! Thanks for this lovely video.
Peter's adjusting his glasses and the sly grin before he kicks into gear for Stablemates was definitely like Superman putting on his cape.
okay I am putting this on repeat and learning them all :)
Genius! 🎉 How it possible to react in a second and go to other song with other rhythm, tonality. It blew my mind!
Blue Bossa, Take Five, Spain, Armando's rumba, All of me and lastly probably not a huge standard but i love it Bill Evens Very Early - All these i was missing
Someday My Prince Will Come
Dude WHAT. Beyond impressive
Would be amazing to have a video where he plays the full head of 150 standards
@@i_am_lambdathat's a great idea. They should make that a livestream!
Unlimited thanks and huge respect for y'all, keep move on🙏🏻
There are 15 tunes that I've never played here; I know the rest.
Harlem Nocturne. You guys are the finger Poppin groove Masters. Love.love.love
Such great playing. I love My Foolish Heart. This was a great list.
😮 You two are great couple of pianist... I love your podcast!
Ok... that was like the most impressive thing I've ever seen... switching keys, time, songs... truly something. Only a handful of the pro's I've ever met or worked with in broadcast/advertising could pull off something like that...
Bravo.
This video made me smile.
Peter is so bigheaded! And with good reason!
You two are stoopid!! This is fire 🔥 Much love and respect to you and admiration for your infinite creativity. Dang.
Love it! I’d add a song or two from Bill Evans. Waltz for Debby comes to mind, but my absolute favorite is Turn out the Stars. Followed by Very Early
Bravissimo.. As an old jazz fan ( 87 yrs ) I knew and sang all of them except 4 the first 😢starting at no 22.. Mario
that oleo into one finger snap was so cool
Estate and Sail Away (Tom Harrell) are two running through my head and fingers right now... maybe Easy Living? Speak Low? My Foolish Heart? There's just too many good standards. Great job!
CEORA's my recent favourite. Lee Morgan trio is killer, and Herbie..
Brazil is an absolute bop
Just - wow.
(later edit: the playing is great but what’s exceptional is the musical MEMORY!)
There will never be another you. Such a tune, surprised it didn’t make it
But it was in there
that was a flex! Peter Martin fire!
Holy moly, next level stuff
The piano sound is outstanding. Peter on the piano...❤❤❤❤
😂😂😂 Great Peter!!! THANKS A LOT!!
Adam is genial too!!!!!
Happy weekend!!!!!
Fckn' great stuff and very impressing what you're doing, guys. Thanks for that lot of inspirations 😊
Best game of stump the chump I’ve ever seen.
I can’t believe how many I recognized. Must be all those years of listening to Oscar Peterson. My new heartthrob is Chucho Valdez! Great work, I love you guys too!!
Some of those transitions are super smooth! Really impressive... Peter is a beast!

Good on you for including Flamenco Sketches
Bravo! That gave me some inspiration to practice today, I’ll throw in joy spring.
Playing ufc 4 while listening to this. Getting insane flawless victories. Respect. Really this shit stimulates my brain like crazy. Love it.
Come Rain Come Shine
Yeoooo!!! 🤦🏽♂️ When Peter start playing Donna Lee I was done...Guy is literally THEE 🐐 Whenever I see Peter I know we're in for a treat lol
i'll remember april, spain, here's that rainy day, stars fell on alabama, yesterday, darn that dream, tis autumn, speak low, blue bossa, desafinado, all of me
thats funny 15 minutes ago when this was uploaded i started looking into jazz standards to use for my college audition... im 30 so im going back to school.... thanks for the post
i do this with other music all the time. i have my voice students do it with me sometimes. to teach them that music is very interchangeable and tiny nuances make big changes.
I love the use of lesser known standards as well, dude has penchant for Monk
Just freakin amazing! Peter!!
I always liked "Up jumped spring".
Peter Martin is such a underf*ckingbelieveble jazz Monster. God bless you.
Almost like..., Fly me...., four-on-six, etc.. etc., but that isn't the point, the point is you gotta have that 'knowledge' and really know the songbook... inspiring !
I'm here to remind everybody that Adam is ALSO absolutely amazing
That was so fun! Amazing command of this instrument.
Couple missing tunes:
Beautiful Love
But Beautiful
Blue Bossa
Wow! Wow! Wow! Absolutely wonderful!
Please do all of these, full versions! ( not on one video haha)
One of my favorite things on youtube right now. So fun and masterful.
Donna Lee/Caravan/Oleo/Green Dolphin St. starting at 6:30 is particularly 🔥🔥🔥.
Writing this here to let myself know to learn all of these by the end of the summer.
Okai Peter you are out of this world man.
