This was my last (of four total) Nascar race that I attended in person. Got to see Davey win this one, as well as the Iroc race the day before. Still have my #28 tee shirt I bought that weekend, as I was a big fan of his and the Yates team. After he & Alan's deaths the following year, I don't think the sport was ever the same for me.
The racing in NASCAR got pretty bleak for awhile, more the guys that were doing all the winning, than the racing it self (IMO of course) Here recently tho, with the emergence of Chase, Blaney, Larsen & a couple more young'ins, it seems like NASCAR has FINALLY pointed the ship back on course again 🤞🙏
There are 2 names that are synonymous with stock car racing at Daytona & Talladega & those names are Allison & Earnhardt, the 2 most dominant names in the history of both Speedways...
Trumps nothing if you're in the know. Petty's last 500 win ('81) when nascar mandated wheelbase, and he won that on a fuel mileage race. Not taking anything away from the man, but when he won most of his races with everybody running different size engines/cars, etc, kinda takes some of the luster out of it. And he was one of the first with big sponsorship. Once Nascar went to the modern era, he wasn't really a factor. Kinda funny that nascar's warehouse full of "unapproved" parts is full of Petty's LMAO. Cant blame a man for trying. Prime for Prime, Petty couldn't hold Earnhardts jock.
Petty success was similar to how formula 1 is. Not cars were equal back then. More money = more success. Not saying petty wasn't a good driver he just could afford to build a better car. Earnhardt kept continuing his success even through the restrictive plate. Im convinced that man could see the wind.
Yes he was, what's interesting though is that if you go back and look at any of these old races, one car and only one car is in the mix always, that's the Black #3.

The 1992 Winston America 500 was the first NASCAR Race under the GMA Rainbow Satellite banner that was aired on May 4, 1992. This race was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and was aired via tape delay at 2:30 P.M. after Goodyear NASCAR Today with Rico Hizon and Bobby Guanzon as it introduced a new theme music that came from the NFL on CBS
I absolutely LOVE and MISS these days, those drivers and those car’s especially my favorite, that #28 and all that represented it with RCR. Damn #28 was cursed.
Martinsville T shoneys I was 6 yr old ...I disappeared mom dad went looking ...they didnt make a scene but I had spotted davey dale and rusty wallace eating breakfast b4 the race and I had went and sat with them then we went outside got pics and autographs
@@drivin379 Especially Tim Richmond. He liked to intimidate The Intimidator. Indeed, the 90s was robbed of some elite drivers that would have made NASCAR in the 90s even better.
At 1:040;30 the discussion in the booth is, should NASCAR run a race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What a mistake that was, that was since the racing stinks with NASCAR at IMS. Then Dr. Punch interviews then car owner Kenny Bernstein who's car with Rebirto Garrario won the pole for the Indy 500 and spun and wrecked on the pacelap.
maybe its a mistake if you are only looking at it from the "does IMS make exciting racing?" perspective but that wasn't the reason they chose to go there. with nascars growth at the time linking themselves to the most historic and well known racetrack helped get them more respect, credibility and notoriety. if you said that nascar still racing at IMS is a mistake, I would probably agree. but in the nineties it helped their brand immensely and i'm sure they in no way regret it.

Oh boy! You talk about a very happy Dega crowd that day! Everyone of the top 3 driver's were absolute Dega fans favorites! 🤩🤩🤩
Can we go back to good racing like this.

No kidding
Love it there, Went twice. The good ol` days when NASCAR was FUN. The fans are the best down there.
My man Davey may you rip buddy miss you
I love the live satellite feed.
Same. I like hearing the conversations during the commercials.
Same here. Love hearing the guys during commercials getting prepped for segments or talking amongst each other.
Final start for Buddy Baker. He would attempt to qualify for 4 more races, but all were DNQ's

That is great and all. Daytona is KING PETTY all day long... 7 500's trumps qualifiers and demo races... sorry, 43=Daytona

Nope The Name Earnhardt does #34 Wins at Daytona

love the satellite feed.
This would be Alan Kulwicki's Year. The following year would be a Heartfelt year for Nascar.
Two of ESPN s biggest mistakes was getting rid of their NASCAR & NHL coverage.
Ii wish I could watch this in HD
Davey was on a rail in this one. Catch me if you can.
Yup. The late Davey Allison was on a rail
Dale Earnhardt said that was only car he has ever saw that comin off corners it would leave 2 black Mark's but yet still be pulling away
Yes he was, what's interesting though is that if you go back and look at any of these old races, one car and only one car is in the mix always, that's the Black #3.
Could you imagine if a manufacturer had a 12 race win streak today? Holy shit.

Ernie and Ricky both drove Yates kinda funny
Thing is Ernie had to pay his way out of Morgan McClure in order to break his contract deal from them to join Robert Yates.

Damn #28 was cursed.
I won't say Earnhardt still doesn't win 7 championships if Davey doesn't pass away but davey definitely would've won at the minimum 2 championships
Davey
Alan
Tim
Woulda gave dale run for his money and may even alan kulwicki too

Actually Dale said it himself in an interview once, "If Davey Allison had lived, I would not be a 7-time champion."
@@drivin379 Now that is a great memory! 👍
When the Gen 4 car then got to race at Talladega.
And to think that Ernie irvan was once an unpopular driver!
Change his underwear, and he'll be right back out again! Lol.
Good job Sterling. You didn't cause a big wreck in this one.
You misspelled ernie irvan
They waited too long to make their move.Lap 187 is too late with the restrictor plates.
51.51......did benny say TOM PETTY
no. kyle
I never really cared for Davy Allison
I was 12 yr old at first brickyard 400
