I have an old Legion 5 10th gen lying around… would like to see how the new 40 series cards perform via this external adapter. Let me know if you upload such a video. I’m kinda curious about the bottleneck issues…
Just ordered this one.I specifically want this to improve my casual gaming experiance on laptop. 😁 yea i don't need a dedicated gaming computer. That would be less flexible/mobile and would be much more expensive in total, than this dock (incl.discount) plus a halfdecent PSU and GPU (anything will be better than my iGPU). Plus this has PD, means one cable less 👍 Also i think that playing on external monitor might further improve performance, by freeing more PCIe lanes for GPU input. Should arrive in about a month, will share my exoeriance (if i'll remember 😁)
@@4EProjectsChannel Got if for few days already, but did not game heavily yet. But from what I've already seen I am happy, as I got exactly the thing that I wanted - a solid increase in graphics quality in World of Warcraft (yup, of all things, that 😅). FPS went from 40-60 in 720p to ~190 in 4K at graphics qualilty 1, to solid 60 with quality 6, which already makes it look as a different game... just wow. All in all it set me back ~340€ total, since I had a lingering PSU. Just had to buy a GPU, for which I picked an aged GTX 1650 Super. And maan. This setup looks neat. Could be less bulky and maybe perfectly silent, but ... why bother, when I'm gaming I don't notice, and when I'm not gaming it's barely audible 😁 The board is wrapped in a tightly cut and bent brushed aluminum. The LED for activity and standby does shine, but it's not in my sleeping room and it's facing the wall. Some minor neat picks: 1. The mounting bracket comes in two sizes, had to pick the larger one. It seems it's slightly bent, since the gap between GPU and PSU get's narrower on the opposite end (good thing GPU is shrouded from the back too). 2. had to file a bit of edge off the powercord socket on PSU for a perfect fit. 3. the USB-C ports are shallow, they do noticeably "grab" the plug, but are shallow. Oh and the drivers! first and foremost you need to make sure you have up-to-date Thunderbolt drivers! GPU drivers come later and Windows 11 deals with that on it's own. But without current TB drivers from Intel, my laptop did not even notice there was something more on the other end of the cable (it just happily accepted the power delivery and the fans started their "lift off" which never ended) All in all. I am happy and can see this being useful at least until I won't finally build a regular desktop 😅
I own a MiniPC (Minisforum NPB7) which is Intel i7-13700H based and has 2 x USB4 40GB/s ports. Manufacturer does not claim these ports are Thunderbolt 3 compatible (neither that they would be incompatible), but a reviewer was able to successfully connect and use an Akitio Node Titan eGPU Thunderbolt 3 adapter/enclosure with this MiniPC. Do you think the TH3P4G3 will work also?
As for performance, I compared it with an average of 5 desktop PCs, and it gave me an extra 100 points in performance compared to what you usually get on a desktop. So, in my case, there’s a 0% bottleneck!
Thank you for this video, there are probably 5-6 videos about this egpu on the whole youtube. I know the performance is lower because the gpu is getting bottlenecked but does that mean that gpu works, let's say at 100% and th3 cuts 20% of that, or is it going to work at th3's maximum bandwidth at 80%?
If they're using a pcie connector, what's happening is that the bottleneck happens in the number of PCIE lanes that is being used. PCIE gen 3 uses 16lanes, but the mini PCIE that the wifi card uses is only 1 lane, if you have an extra NVME m.2 slot, it uses up to 4 lanes.
@@nuno09 can you tell me what conditions that make thunderbolt 3 bottleneck with graphics card? Bcs im planning to build egpu using this th3 egpu dock. Thanks a lot in advance
