- Slap this 100 mega pixel digital back on any old 500 film body, and you've got some mixed emotions. Is the brand new Hasselblad 907x 100c really worth the money? Check out this studio portrait session for Musicbed, and find out for yourself if this new camera is really something.
Thank you to Matt Champine for filming all the BTS on your Sony FX9. You made me feel so cool, and you gathered such great footy.
Thank you to Erik Sohner at Spokane Falls Community College for facilitating this exciting shoot. And thank you to all the faculty and students who participated as crew, you are all extremely competent in the studio.
Thank you to Lane King for trusting me with this project. I wish you luck in Nashville, and I can't wait to come see you play some steel at the Opry.

The Porsche analogy is perfect.
🤘🏻😅 I assume that’ll ruffle someone’s feathers on the internet.
"In summary, this proved nothing!" Love that. I shoot both digital and film and am a little more partial to film because of the physicality (and I prefer an old Porsche), but to each their own.
brilliant comparison! I've always wondered what it was like using the digital back with the film body!
Absolutely love this style of videos from you, keep the good work up!
🤘🏻😅
The music is so distracting and doesn't work with the footage or your voice at all...
Send me some ideas of your idea music.
Really interesting stuff, Sam! Love the shots you captured 🤩
You might be the first. 🤘🏻😅
Instant sub.
Instant? Geeze. Don’t make be blush. I’m just trying to match your vibe.
Absolutely love shooting the digital back on my 500cm. I dont own any x series lenses so it's the 500cm all the way. Film and digital. Amazing shooting experience!
🤘🏻😍
That was genuinely useful, and point well made at the end.
This was genuinely useful in inflating my ego.
Can I buy this at IKEA?
yeah but one screw will be missing...
Omg. The collab I didn’t know I wanted. Some assembly required. 😂
also when you go to pick it up prepare for about 250 candles, new forks, plants and a bnw poster of manhattan with yellow cabs in your shopping cart@@SamMcGhee
Great photos, I also loved the conclusion 😄
Was it worth the watch? 😅
Or it all boileddown to the old lens v.s. XCD lens?
Love the end 👍
Glad someone does. 🤘🏻😂
Does MF Assist (Focus Indicator) work when used on the older bodies?
You’ve got to use a remote shutter release for the film body, and go through a little bit of a work around to make it work. But the answer is yes.
Hi Sam, how do you avaoid getting dust and stuff on the sensor when shooting with the 500 series body? We've experienced that the auxiliary shutter throws little particels at the sensor as the shutter is steamed with a light absorbing substance. Only solution we had is getting a 2000fc which has a focal plane shutter
I just use a rocket blower on everything, periodically. Seems to keep the dust at bay.
Great video! Looking forward to more!
You said focus was just a bit off when you used the 50c digital back on your 501c. Are you having the same trouble with the 100c?
I think my focus issue has to do with my personal 501c camera body. It needs a good CLA.
Thanks for the reply! Had seen others say the same thing but maybe a lot of the older bodies could use a CLA as well…
I so want this but know it’s not going to work as well as a pure digital camera.
What’s your measure of “working well”?
@@SamMcGheeNot need my body going through a CLA to get good focus, coping with weather (I keep screwing the seals, I love to shoot in the rain), and work with my aging eyes.
i love your enthusiasm when talking old vs new or rather old AND new. makes me shoot some portraits. the only concern i'd have: since the digital sensor is not square format, do you shoot everything in landscape orientation? i shoot like 75% of my portraits vertically. i imagine that would be a hassle(blad). sorry, that was uncalled for.
That pun will be rattling around my skull for a while. 😆 sadly. When the digital back is on the 500 body, it’s all landscape orientation. But the all digital, 907x setup, with the handle, makes portrait orientation feel natural.
ok i can see how the grip might change the actual handling of the camera a lot. good point. @@SamMcGhee
Just show the photos, dont talk 😊
Just go to my website. Skip the video.
ok so blathering ... where are the minecraft videos man.
Top secret.
Pretentious, Moi?
Indeed.
Music level is way too high, a strain to hear you talking.
I want it to feel like we’re in the club, and we’re old and pissy.
@@SamMcGhee why bother talking at all then. If I were to be pissy I would have said what was the point of the video. I wanted to hear how the difference in sensor size vs real medium format compared. How it effected relative or perceived field of view/perspective not if it feels nice to use or if you like German cars.
The big elephant in the room is that you cant rotate the back to vertical
Elephant. For sure.
Lol. Thanks for nothing ;)
I’m glad you experienced the full value of my thoughts.
@@SamMcGhee Cool video though thanks
Could be a waste of time .
I don’t believe in waisted time.
