when replacing final drive in a honda transmission (pinion and crown wheel) is it neccessary to replace all the bearings? left my box for a Final Drive change and they said it's mandatory, because during disassembly bearings are under stress and may be damaged. is this true or am I being scamed?
I replaced every bearing inside the trans. You're in there once why not spend the extra money and do it right. The only things I didn't replace were the gears and shift forks. I think they don't wanna fix some of it and then have it come back because you didn't wanna replace an internal part. Rebuild the tranny once and it'll be good for a lifetime.
What do you recommend to clean to inner side of both the transmission and clutch housing. Ive read breake cleaner, and i also read that aluminium is sensitive. I am rebuilding my S40 transmission next week. Thanks for your video.
aluminium is soft metal, I use brake clean all over the transmission. The inside of transmission are usually always super clean because they never really see outside elements like an engine. The outside of the trans I sandblasted and powder coated so I didn't clean that at all!

do you happen to know if i can swap over a 5th gear from a s40 into an s20 transmission? i cant find any good info online
nah it won't fit. s20 is a totally different setup. I can't say 100% it won't but im 99.99% sure haha
My 99 civic has a serious transmission fluid leak in between the engine and transmission. Where would it be coming from?
you sure its not motor oil coming from the rear main seal?

which is better s20 or s40?
s20 is a EG transmission, s40 is EK. Depends on what you're building I Suppose.. S40 is newer and has more available parts so I would recommend that.
