2023 Honda ZR-V review: New Mazda CX-5 rival shakes-up family SUV segment with hybrid and petrol!

- Опубліковано 14 чер 2024
- The 2023 Honda ZR-V is a mid-size SUV you've probably never heard of. Of course, Honda is a segment mainstay with the CR-V, but now it's grown in size to the point that the ZR-V has come along to slot in beneath and offer family buyers a smaller option.
With the HR-V small SUV below it, the ZR-V has the tough job of combining the best of both worlds to challenge heavyweights like the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4, among others. And with a petrol engine and a 'self-charging' hybrid powertrain on offer, it's got a fair chance.
But is the all-new ZR-V actually any good? In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Stephen Ottley puts the crossover through its paces to find out, covering its practicality and safety credentials, as well as how well it drives.

It's been 20 days since I picked up this car and all I can say is that I have no regret with the purchase. Did thought about the new CR-V for the boot space (obviously it's will cost more for the same trim - LX), but the occasions that we required the massive boot space is very limited considered we're a 3 member family. The car is such a pleasant to drive, very quiet in the cabin and enough power to do your day to day drive just like what's mentioned in the video " does have the attribute of what you need", for an ordinary family who's looking at a SUV that suit their need. The hidden details are what's worth your spending!
It looks like a mini Porsche Macan.
i test drove one yesterday. the fuel economy on the test vehicle i drove was showing 5.1l/100km. i was really impressed with the quiet ride.
Test drove one today and very impressive. Great power. Very spacious back row. Looks better in real life.
Only things
- fuel economy from our drive was 8.5
- the dash was lit up like a crazy with all the warning lights. Dealer advised there was a issues earlier and advised the car was fine.
- exxy when compared to some rivals
Which version did you drive?
@@stizzygrayson5541 the top spec HEV hybrid
does it have HUD?
I took the ZR-V HEV LX for a test drive yesterday with the wife. The ZR-V is a beautiful build and finish and I was really keen to purchase it. Very quiet at low speeds. However the noise coming in from the sides for both of us on the open road from 80-110 km/hr was really obtrusive and significant. The noise sounded like it was coming straight in through the door window glass on both driver and front passenger at ear level. I spend a lot of time on open roads and it is currently a deal-breaker which is really frustrating as we love the car otherwise. So I am reading and researching trying to find out if this is due to insufficient sound deadening in the doors? 🤷🏻♂️. Or side mirror noise? I am going to take a LX petrol version for a drive to see if it was just an issue with that specific car we drove. If any ZRV owners have any comments that would be appreciated!
50k for a barely Mid size Suv? I got new Mercedes AMG line GLC for $52k OTD, w/ 4 year warranty. My dealer had a tons of 2022s and new 2023s , got the 22 in Dec for huge discount.
Which dealer?
how?
This will replace the crv or this is new model?
I believe crv still around and will be all new model release very shortly
@@nzautoreview7829 so, this Zrv is a new model in 2023? In Malaysia, Crv only has a couple times facelift since 2016 as I remembered. Thats why I confused is this will replaced it. Thanks for your info
This or ux200 (used market)
Lack of decent infotainment centre is letting this SUV down, have a look at the new Kona. Otherwise a nice looking SUV.
In my experience with a 2021 HRV, fixed price servicing is not really correct. Honda increased its charges each year on my HRV.
welcome to the effects of inflation, not the manufacturers fault.
@@shanemurphy9024Then don't call it fixed. Fixed means no change.
Honda is a dying brand. They offer average cars and crap prices and wonder why sales are going down. Getting rid of dealers was the first red flag for me. Too risky to buy a Honda these days
Agreed. Throw in that HA does not support dealers over warranty claims and it's a disaster in progress. Collins and his board at HA have plenty to answer for. A ZRB with a Mickey mouse boot, no magic seats, scarce safety equipment and greatly overpriced doesn't seem to be aimed to sell.
Hrv and zrv are different???
Totally different
Same ...
No sunroof is odd in the Australian market😮
No sunroof in our hot climate is a blessing😅
Honda ZRV needs to be Car of the 2023. SOOOO GOOODDD
I think most will still look towards the CX5 for brand assurance.
So true.
Honda don't need any brand assurance against Mazda.... both Japanese. Mazda have become complacent with the CX5. It's fuel economy is woeful and it's non touch screen is outdated. My next SUV will be the ZRV Hybrid
yeah, that's called vertical price fixing, which is illegal
Maserati grecale lookalike
Front end looks very Suzy to me.
With their prices and the reliability, the is no way I pay for Honda,
4 star safety rating hrv ,47000$????
Recycling the same 6 shots of the car throughout.
You said it, “it’s adequate”. I feel like the Japanese car manufacturers are slowly falling behind their rivals and building boring sedate cars…
He said it was better than adequate.
Nice review.
But in the EU it’s only available with a 360l trunk…. So not a family car at all!!
CX5: 505l
Sportage: 590l
So mission failed Honda.
Ford looks + Mazda looks = Honda ZR-V
I'll still take the Mazda any day !
I'd probably go for the CX5 as well if it wasn't for the terrible fuel economy. That's why I'm leaning towards the ZRV
Each to their own but after driving the crv and cx5, I went with the CRV. More specs for better price. Same 1.5 turbo in my crv returns 14kmpl while being AWD.
The cx5 returns 6.2 km/l on highway and 8.5 km/l city driving ALSO 4WD.
You did your homework and bought want you want, a winner😅.
I hope your CRv doesn't have the significant oil dilution that my 2018 Crv has, which the 1.5 turbo is famous for.
A face that only a mother could love.
Test Drove this and the Rav4 - ZRV far superior and i'm a Toyota fan - put a deposit down on the Z
You'll get it sometime late next year in 2024, there will a facelifted improved ZRV out by then!!! :) :) :)
RAV4 hybrid is much more economic though in the long run unless of course you chose to get the zrv hybrid
1.5 turbo with CVT is big red flag for me. Honda cvt won't last 100k kms and turbo won't last 80k kms. if you value your money stay away from cvt transission.
Completely agree. I stopped watching once I found out.
Millions of Honda around the world with high mileage and reliability
@@daweigo6851 yes they are reliable if you choose 2.0L natual aspirated engine not 1.5t engine.
Massive exaggeration here, it will easily last 100k kms.
It’s a dud. Very 2015. No way you’d buy this over a cx5
Underrated comment
I would and I am. CX-5 is old technology and long in the tooth.
(Obviously I am referring to the hybrid.)
Beats the Mazda hands down , better specs
This feels cheap compared to the Mazda
@@aidentai5867 if you sit in it you will feel differently, it feels very luxurious and I’m trading in my Mazda for it, that’s how impressed I was
@@markdumbrell2618 and i just traded the new CRV BACK FOR A CX5 ... That's how impressed I WAS !
I would change the badges to read Maserati, but then I drive a Chevy not a Commodore😅
@@joepowell7025 the new CRV isnt out yet?
...so Honda sell us in Australia these models side by side currently
CRV
ZRV
HRV
Why?
If Honda wanted to sell cars, any cars at all in Australia, they should have released the Civic Si Manual here and possibly the new Acura Integra manual. Those two cars would have sold like droves here!!!! Why do I say that....well those two models sold like droves overseas in other markets, and currently selling like droves with the new Acura Integra overseas in other markets. Mmm did I say Honda could not care a flippin toss if they sell cars here anymore at all.
So Honda are trying to sell us 3 Different types of SUV's? Thinking thats the only Honda's aussies want. BUT Honda are completely ignoring the fact that there is just TOO much competition in the SUV market in Australia, Mazda currently leading and the Koreans with Hyunda and Kia a close second..................................Honda??? Who were they again?
Much more expensive than all the others in it's class !
Dinosaurs. If you're not seriously looking into electric these days you're a Luddite.
Ridiculous comment....
Maybe you don't drive in regional areas that need 750+km.
Too expensive for now unless your willing to gift me a electric car?
