I know what you mean Zee. first time I heard 3 rivers I cried. The mark of a great artist is that ability to evoke deeply held emotions and make you feel. Dave has that in abundance
Another great reaction Zee, I much prefer Dave’s deeper more meaningful songs so not too bothered about the next few so looking forward to both sides of a smile, heart attack and survivors guilt which are all hard hitting songs but most of all looking forward to panic attack (live), it’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen 👌
HMT Empire Windrush was the name of one of the ships that brought folks from the Carribbean/commonwealth to the UK. Invited by the UK government to boost the British workforce in the aftermath of WW2. Commonwealth citizens living in the UK in the 70s were given a permanent right to live and work in the UK but it turned out that the government did not keep records and had not issued any paperwork so that the 'Windrush Generation' couldn't confirm their status and had to fight not to be deported (many were). In 2018 they got an apology (of sorts) from the then Prime Minister and there was an enquiry and compensation scheme set up. This is still ongoing though and the government has reneged on a couple of the commitments recommended from the enquiry. Alot of pain for the people involved.
One of your best ever reactions to one of Dave's most underrated songs. The speech by Daniel (Kaluuya) is the perfect footnote at the end. I think you might burst into tears at Panic Attack Live!
Wasn't forced but asked to come over to help rebuild the uk after ww2, Windrush was the first ship to come over mainly Jamaicans on HMS Windrush, but they was treated so badly when they came .
The album is just elite in everyway no hip hop artist can compete with dave in terms of hes story telling ability and just lyrically so deep. Luckily u have a different vibe next one a nice switch up in the album like in psychodrama with location
So refreshing to hear actual intellectual storytelling rappers like Dave. In contrast mumble rap that tops charts leaning on that rely purely on sex/N word/gang material to cater for a much more basic audience.
This album was an art piece his versatile subject matter is broad. Be very interesting to see were he takes us on his next album if it doesn't drop end of this year surely start of next year. You can see dave takes his time his a thinker and a poet so before anything gets released it has to move him first and make him feel perfection to the craft has been attained
