    A toilet in the middle of the basement is called a “Pittsburgh Toilet” where I’m from. They were placed in the basement (usually with a shower or sink next to it) so that steelworkers and miners could clean up after a day of work before walking up stairs.

    Always hire an outside home inspector. A home inspector who works for the real estate agent is compromised because his job is contingent on his boss selling more houses. And his boss stands to make a sizable commission on the sale of the home, and the hire the price the higher the commission. So what is that inspector incentivized to do?

    • @jays106
      @jays106 Місяць тому

      you nailed it one that! so many of these i have seen and a common denominator is the home inspector "recommended" or hired by the real estate agent are almost never going to find anything but minor issues and tell you " oh its nothing to affect the asking price of the home or nothing to go back to the seller on"

      In SA we need to provide COC'S for electricity and water. Those guys also work for the raltors and yes, they also falcify their reports. House is issued with a COC even though it does not comply. You don't have a foot to stand on. Very frustrating.

      The series is old. I think last episode of Holmes inspection was sent 2011 - I believe today you can hold a home inspector accountable by common law for problems he should have seen if he had done his job the correct way. I think in the first episode where you could see the neighbors basement or the bad roof is an example for bad work on the side of a home inspector.

      @@battlekitten4188 Sorry to here, hope you do well now.....
      I can sympathize with you, because I also had something like that with the purchase of a house and it ultimately cost me the house and my marriage, even though I had also won the lawsuit, the company declared itself bankrupt so that I was forced to move in with my parents or else end up on the street.

    I once lived in a 1918 home. The basement had its own access with a shower and a toilet...right out in the open. No walls. No curtains. No division whatsoever. I'm glad to see others have had the same basement toilet.

      Yes. If you’re delaying the wedding for money, just go to the judge for paperwork and have a celebration when you can. The legal on the relationship should have preceded the home buying.

    2nd house; @ 1:20:45. That roof vent with flapper for exhausting the kitchen hood seems awfully low ? Now the attic is well insulated the snow won't melt and surely built up over that vent. ?

    It’s kinda simple. If the inspector turns in a bad report they would not get work from that Realtor again. And 2. Y’all must turn work down every day. Ps. I’ve been watching you since the beginning When your kids were just babies. Wishing you all the best. Do it right the first time

    That building has what I am guessing is an "interesting" history. Looking at the front wall and the placement of doors, when it was built it was two storefronts with a stairwell between the two stores. Those stairs seem to be gone now. I'm pretty sure the front bay window upstairs was mirrored on the other side. It is even possible that the two stores had a common room across the rear, which is why the stud wall was single 2x4. It may also have been two stores with 2 small apartments over them. The City Archives would have records of the house, likely including floor plans or blueprints. Pulling up to the building, my first reaction would have been to walk away. That siding is hiding a multitude of sins. The building looks to be stick framed with a brick veneer over to make it look more posh. I grew up in a 1903 semi. The perimeter foundation was dry laid limestone with the brick wall between the houses being 4 layers to the height of the foundation then three layers right up to the roof for a full fire break between the two houses. My parents bought it in 1959 from the original owners. It was unmolested, so it was possible to reverse engineer the structure. It was, in a word, solid. The floor joists were 2½ by 12½ oak or elm from the trees that were felled to make room for the house. My great-grandmother watched the house being built. She had friends across the street in a glorious old, quite grand Queen Anne Victorian from about 1880.

      it looks like it was one "store" there is finished posts with beam down the middle. this is a bull shit building that was made in to two town house probably with no permit the only way this would be legal is put in a block wall and cut the building in half
      this is a condo not a house

    I would think an inspector attached to the seller or the realtor can not be trusted: they would be compromised because the seller and the realtor have a financial motive for the house to pass.

    Inspector paid by the Real Estate Agent means he's working for the RE Agent, not the potential buyer. And what does the RE Agent want? A quick and easy sale. NEVER use an inspector arranged by the RE Agent or the seller.
