In the final season of SG-1, the Asgard should've posted a fleet of O'Neill-Class ships to guard the Odyssey while it's was being upgraded. That way there could've had an epic battle scene between Asgard and Ori ships, allowing the Odyssey time to escape.

The Asgard were underused I think.
In that battle against the Ori that 1 ship they used didn't do crap when it should have at least damaged or disabled 1 Ori ship.

So true. In the beginning we were made to believe that the asgard were a powerful race and at the end of the show we were left with a race that wasn't as powerful as we were meant to believe. 🙁🖖

@@UtopianBroadcast1 We were lucky to see 3 ships in 1 shot, it was like The Asgard were on some sort of budget cut austerity policy. In theory I think the Asgard were bluffing their power while struggling to deal with the replicators.
I think Starfleet would give them a run for their money and perhaps they would stay out of the Milkyway.

@@BadwolfGamer We were lucky to see 3 at once. It seems the Asgard worked on a quality over quantity ideology kind of like the Caroleans of the early 1700s or the Redcoats of the 1800s while the Wraith, Goa'uld and Replicators focused on quantity over quality, similar to how the levee en masse strategy functioned in the past. Their fleet may not be large but it's compensated for by each ship being very powerful to the point where it can take on multiple enemy vessels simultaneously. There weren't many instances of Asgard ships being destroyed by enemy fire. Often the Asgard didn't use more than one as one was normally able to take on any opponent with multiple ships being overkill or in one instance a show of force.
It may also be the case that it wasn't austerity but a population issue that limited the Asgard fleet. That idea may have been supported by the O'Niell Class not needing a pilot and other Asgard ships generally having a minimum crew of 1. You could build all the ships you want but if there are not enough pilots to crew them, they're useless.

Technically the Odyssey-02 has the blueprints for all the Asgard ships in its storage memory, we can build the O'Neill class, but requires a lot of Neutronium so a planet rich in it would be perfect for a factory and replicator free

As the Asgard race ended when there new home world was destroyed by the Asgard to prevent there advanced tech getting into the wrong hands and as the Asgard had the ability to transfer there minds to there computers, perhaps that's whey SG1 didn't want to just get rid of the Asgard Core Computer. May be had all downloaded to it so they could be revived some time in the future but because it was the last SG1 episode for season 10 and there was possibly going to be a season 11, the story line was not elaborated on because it was going to be a surprise for season 11.

Yet another succinct, interesting and highly informative video. I loved the Asgard in the Stargate universe. These vessels are staggeringly powerful in all aspects. Propulsion, materials, weapon systems, navigation and sensors. I’m just curious to know if they are or ever were on a par with the Atlanteans? In the series the explanation of how they,(the Asgard) once resembled humans and their cloning was very interesting. Their ships were indeed powerful and I liked the way they scared the crap out of their enemies by sheer presence alone. I totally agree with you about the way the race was written out of the show with a species wide suicide. It not only did injustice to a once proud race but it seemed a little bit of a kop out,(British expression!). Personally, I think a good story line could have developed where humans find the solution to their cloning problem and save the Asgard from genetic degradation and extinction. The story would have been interesting because the Asgard always believed that humanity was the fifth race and had a special destiny. I think that when script writers just go for a simple fix to an enduring element of a story or end a central character(s) it diminishes the show as a whole.

It was unclear to me why Asgard self-destructed along with the planet? If Asgard was so friendly with Earthlings, then he could at least move resources, technologies, spare parts, equipment to earth through the stargate, as well as give the fleet to Earthlings. Asgard acted selfishly, seeing the enormous dangers to people from the Ori, and not doing everything necessary to help. Although, perhaps, Asgard preached the ideology of technological non-interference in the development of intelligent races, but in the series it was perfectly shown that Asgard constantly shared technology with the Tauri. One way or another, but the director just decided to "remove" a strong ally of people. Otherwise, the whole idea of the invincible invading force of the Ori would have failed if the Tauri had the remnants of the Asgard fleet, thousands of tons of high-tech equipment and materials from the little green men.

So what about an encounter between O’Neil-class vs Victory-class (from Babylon 5)?
Let’s say SG1 was enroute to Destiny to pickup/rotate crew or replenish supplies when Destiny suddenly warped into Babylon 5 universe pulling the O’Neil-class with it.
Sudden appearance of Destiny created gravity wells that crushed a few Warlock-class ships in a battle group that contains a Victory-class flagship.
Hostilities ensued and the O’Neil has to hold back the Victory until Destiny recharge at a nearby star for both itself and O’Neil to escape.

Same thing with the ori , this is a race that could collapse planet into singularity and their ships being able to survive with the collision of an Ha'tak yet they refused to put the same insane scale with their firepower who are pathetic when they bombard the planet while they managed to destroy 3 pyramid ship made of gold , naquadah and trinium .

I know the show was ended, but with SG1 now having reliable space travel why not go to all the planets that they couldn't like Ernest's planet. Also why didn't they try to enlist the help of the Knox to either copy the database in case the Odyssey go destroyed and/or to solve or at least hide the signal that allowed the Ori to track them. Also the Asgard downloaded the Ancient database from O'Neill's mind so shouldn't that also be in the Asgard database. So much more they could have done with the show.

I'm not saying the Ion weapons are more powerful than the Beam Weapons, but for a close combat or multiple fleet engagement the ion cannon is sure a miss to the Tau'ri, but since everything the Asgards have are overpowered even the target system.

@@bigmichaelcollins10 Swing and a miss there bud, the Daniel Jackson was a science vessel, not a dedicated warship. The Daniel Jackson was the name of the ship Thor used, and not the class of ship itself. The Science Vessel's strength was, at least against the Replicators, its Replicator Disruptor Cannon. Outside of that, while it was probably more powerful than a single Ha'tak due to being an Asgard ship, it definitely wasn't the threat that the O'Neill-class posed.
The O'Neill, on the other hand, was designed from the outset to combat Replicator forces (and, as a result, be better than anything else in the galaxy). Had the Asgard not committed mass suicide, I believe the O'Neill class would have received the Asgard Plasma Beams that were fitted to the Odyssey and Daedalus - which would have enabled them to surpass the firepower of even an Ori mothership (as we saw during the Ori invasion, even with its Ion Guns, while it was able to withstand the firepower of the Ori ships it wasn't able to effect as much damage).
