After watching many videos about the cost of living in Thailand, I've decided they are all nuts! My wife's brand new studio apartment on the east side of Bangkok in Bang Kapi, cost us $100 a month because we wanted air conditioning. We had a private bathroom, a mattress on the floor. a hotplate, and a rice cooker. Most of our meals were on the street. There were probably 100 choices of food vendors and restaurants within a 2 minute walk. The Mall was 3 miles away. You could ride the bus for 25 cents, or take a taxi for $3. The $1 elevated train to downtown was a 10 minute walk. The canal boats were a dollar for a ride downtown. A meal was $2 with a bottle of pop. A 7-11 store was around the corner. So.....Rent $100, food for 2 people per month was $300, transportation was $50 or less. Internet was $30. Total...........less than $500 per month. I get $1000 a month from Social Security. My Thai wife gets free governmental healthcare. My health insurance is $100 a month. Total?...........less that $600 a month and we almost never cook.
Chang mai is suit for expats who love a slow life and hippie travelers. Bangkok is suit for a quite hyper expat who love Night club bar and shopping maniac
I spent > 1 month in all 3 quite recently, and IMO Bali is probably the best. It has everything Thailand has, with the exception of the Bangkok shopping experience, but Bali also has waves if you want em. And volcanoes. SCUBA is a little better in Thailand though. Nowhere in SE asia had consistently good enough internet connectivity for my job requirements though, so I was unable to stay in either country and adopt the digital nomad lifestyle (I keep a PST timezone work schedule which is 12am-8am there). The only things I really didn't like about Bali was how it's become so trendy to go there now and how Kuta was filled with SO many loud drunken partying Australian douches. It's fun at first for a couple days but gets old real quick, kinda like KaoSan road in Bangkok, or Vegas.
@@livinthatlife Some Canggu and Kuta, but mostly Denpasar with a super connected and well off Balinese family who showed me around every day for a month. Nicest, most hospitable and fun people I've ever met....
Geographically, Bangkok is more sprawling, like Los Angeles with more skyscrapers. The BTS and MRT system is not nearly as extensive as the NYC subway system. In Bangkok, once you get off the train, unless your final destination is along the line, you'll may still have to walk a considerable distance, whereas in NYC, there are over 470 stations, meaning you can miss your stop, and it will only take 5-10 minutes longer walking to get to your destination.

Great breakdown. We live in Bangkok. Travel to Bali at least 3-4 times a year for 10 days at a time usually. Chiang Mai for weekend trips every couple of months. Definitely need to do more traveling but I get more work done in Bangkok than I ever get done anywhere else. So it’s my base.

I've lived in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Bali and parts of Vietnam. I agree, Chiang Mai is great but you do run out of things to do. fairly quickly. There are a lot of cool things to do there but a lot of them are a bit samey. I really love Canggu, it's probably one of my fav places to live. It's only 1.5 hours to Ubud, which I also love and there's a never ending stream of cool things to do there. Also no one could get tired of those sunsets, wow! Vietnam (in my humble opinion) is cheaper. hands down, than both of them. But doesn't really offer as much for the cheapness. Hanoi in my opinion is insanely cheap. My bank blocked my card there and I had to wait until I Bangkok to contact them, leaving me with only £50 for a week there. Which was fine because even if I wanted to do more there, I there. didn't seem to be much more to do in 7 days. Da nang has one of the most incredible beaches I have ever seen in my entire life, you pay a bit more for it but it's for sure better. value than Hanoi. But overall every time (and place) I've been to in Vietnam has left me thinking, yeah that was cheap, but the experience was cheap too for the money. I never thought I would say this, but I expected way more for my $2.50 lol. Bangkok can suit anyone's budget. I've literally. stayed in BKK in places that. work out $75 USD a month, not amazing place but still $75 a month to be less than 30 minutes commute from one of the most diverse, exciting and opportunity laden places in South East Asia. Hey can you answer this question for me. I'd like to know how you are able to stay in Thailand for a long stay with the two border crossings per 12 months law in effect.
I often read of serious air pollution problems in Bangkok such as school closings and even using water cannons to help clear away smog. Have you experienced anything like this? The food looks great and the cost of living is very low for such a nice lifestyle, but I hate the idea of breathing dangerously polluted air.
I'm going to Thailand to teach English for the Summer, but I only will get paid around 1k a month (I'm going for the exp more than the money)- is that doable in Bangkok?
Chiang mai is Boston, Bangkok is NYC, Bali is LA. I think Canggu is probably the most hip place among the three, The vibe is just so cool.. .BUT i think it's too fun for it's own good. You'd never any work done there 😂
I love those 3 places equally for different reasons. I absolutely love Koh Pan Ghan in Thailand.. for those who don't know, its more than just the full moon parties place. Awesome people, beautiful beaches and really chilled inland places too.waterfalls, old temples.... .. i love the diversity of people there .. Much nicer than Samui , Phuket, Koh Phi Phi or any of those overrated iover populated and absolutely thrashed islands. Asia is cool
Looks huge was there in 1988 when just starting to take off in Chang Mai ... looks just as beautiful in Thailand though .. appreciate your down to earth commentary .. wow love that skytrain
usually if no tables are available and your sitting just having a coffee and people want eat a full meal.. it pissed me off in Bali at a cafe everyday Digital Nomads took up all the tables all day from morning to night ., very selfish and arrogant I found due to lack of consideration of others wanting to eat there .. won't name the cafe though was in Ubud .. this happened at two other cafes in the area too .. was pretty pissed off that they go there just to use the wifi and hog the tables all day long !! Find that generation .com are too selfish
Only if it's a busy place do I find it disrespectful. Taking up a table for 4-8 hours while leeching their internet bandwidth, and only ordering 1 meal and a drink or two the entire time seems a little selfish and like taking advantage of them to me. I get it... You want to be a digital nomad and that's the only way you can make it work out. Well we ALL want to be a digital nomads. But as much as I want to, I can't bring myself to take advantage of someone else's resources in order for me to achieve my dream, so I'll just have to wait until the internet is more consistent there, or find somewhere more expensive to live there where the internet doesn't cut in and out all the time...

How do you guys manage to stay for so long in Thailand/Bali? (Or are you switching from one country to another and summing up the total time spent there?) With an European passeport I can hardly stay more than 1 or 2 months :(
All the Starbucks I went to in Bangkok were totally packed. No seat at all, all day, all night (seemed that way). Other cafes had very limited seating, so also no seats. Can you tell me some nice Starbucks to sit for 2 or 3 hours and work? I know you mentioned 'everywhere', but since I couldn't find one with an empty seat, just wondering where you went. Loved the video, thanks.
I went to Bangkok and Chiang Mai a few months back. Loved Chiang Mai. I was stuck in NANA in Bangkok and it was a pit. What's a better area of Bangkok to live?
I love Bali ❤️❤️❤️❤️ canggu is the small part of Bali,, i am Balinese living in England and our villa in canggu area near echo beach. if you bored with canggu you guys can explore Kuta, legian or seminyak, those pleace are good for night party, and you guys have to explore other part of the island, example Ubud. I love Bangkok and I love kanchanaburi too, thanks for this video guys.
There's more plastic and other garbage in the ocean in Bali than there are fish. The island needs to launch a serious clean-up campaign AND ban the burning of garbage, which releases toxic fumes into the air and stinks really badly. Other than that, get a good taxi service into Ubud and put a stop to the local transportation mafia.
Hey man ! I love you your channel ! I’m going to Thailand in September-October . I’ve been reading about the rainiest months . Does it get that bad out there ? I’m going to Bangkok and the islands . I would appreciate the feedback . Thanks
Hehe thx for following! Nah it doesn’t get ‘bad’ ... life is always beautiful out here 😎🌴 ‘Rainy’ season = a bit more frequent and harder showers that last less than an hour. But most of the day it’s sunny year round.
Love Bangkok so diverse made Thai friends in 3 day hung with her and her band all week ...and every amenity you can think of ...getting Bored in BKK would be work
How did you find your condo for $600 a month in Bangkok? What area? Did you use a website to find it? I could not find anything for less than $1200. Thanks for the great video. I vote for Bali, but love Bangkok.
This is very helpful for a freelancer like me wanting to live the digital nomad life. But then, the pandemic came. Damn, can't wait for everything to get back to normal and I'll visit Bangkok and Bali again! Never been to Chiang Mai but definitely on my list!
Power point! Makes more sense! Power outlet, sounds like a clothing outlet stores (dfo). Plug in the plug at the power point! Hahah. Great video though! Keep up the awesome work boys!
how much does house rental cost in pattaya, chang mai, phuket, bali or philipphines ? which one is best for accommodation : ) i have just $900 a month xd so which one suitable for me ? thanks and best regards from Turkey...
Both Pattaya and Hua Hin have beaches. Pattaya has the incredible abundance of nightlife. If you’re into that, nowhere in Thailand has more. Hua Hin is more a typical Thai city. Both have great food, and the entire cost of living is cheap. Hua Hin has better night markets and a calmer vibe. They’re both a 2-3 hour bus ride from Bangkok. So I’d give them both a try. You could easily live in either for less than $1000 a month. Hua Hin is just a bit cheaper.
The air in Bali is often terribly polluted as the Balinese like to burn their garbage, which releases serious toxic fumes and smells foul. Many of the beaches are awfully dirty, too. And, of course, Balinese food simply can't compare with Thai cuisine.
its all gravy:) thats like asking... what do u like better, Pizza or Burgers? .... its like well... I like both! ... from what restaurant and what type specifically? u know? ANYwhere in the world u will find amazing food.... because people love amzgin food! :)
Your music is far too loud and unpleasant. Turn it down and put some effort in finding relaxing music. The information you provide is great. Have you heard the full video?
PowerPoint is a program you use for presentations, lol. I’ve been in Australia and I’ve heard it being called a power point. Thanks for this very informative video. I’ve been to Bali and Colombia. I’m looking to stay in Chiang Mai in 2020 and then back to Colombia. I was wondering if you could add Medellin to your VS videos in the near future. A follow up would be nice. Thank you!
I'd say, Spicy is the most popular among people hanging out at Zoe. There are definitely bigger and better clubs, like Infinity, Sound UP or even TakeIt. It's no Bangkok, but Spicy? Come on...
Watching this video makes me sad because tourists are good for the economy of a country but they are also going to make the country very expensive that the citizens of the country will not be able to live in their own country because the tourists made it very expensive. so I spend with my country costa rica now everything is expensive and the cost of living is ridiculous. I visited Thailand last year and it reminded me a lot of my country .....
Spent several years living and working in Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh. I got tired of being treated like a second class citizen in a third country. South East Asia in a nut shell. When I finally realized this is just the way things are and they weren't going to change anytime soon, I did what a lot of other smart westerners do... I left.

Bangkok has skyscrapers more than every city in Europe.
what's the point of telling this?
@@2551chan but the cables is so messed up
So do the messy wires and cables. Footpaths are also terrible in BKK.
Wow interesting! Any links to statistics on this? Yeah there are sooo many y’all Bildungsroman
Livin That Life en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_with_the_most_skyscrapers 81 skyscrapers
What exactly do you guys do to earn money?
Amazon selling
Koh Tao is better than Pan Ghan or Phi Phi or any other island in Thailand IMO
Looks huge was there in 1988 when just starting to take off in Chang Mai ... looks just as beautiful in Thailand though .. appreciate your down to earth commentary .. wow love that skytrain
awesome haha. cheers thanks for watchin!
usually if no tables are available and your sitting just having a coffee and people want eat a full meal.. it pissed me off in Bali at a cafe everyday Digital Nomads took up all the tables all day from morning to night ., very selfish and arrogant I found due to lack of consideration of others wanting to eat there .. won't name the cafe though was in Ubud .. this happened at two other cafes in the area too .. was pretty pissed off that they go there just to use the wifi and hog the tables all day long !! Find that generation .com are too selfish
yea

True.
Bangkok 4 life ❤
How do you guys manage to stay for so long in Thailand/Bali? (Or are you switching from one country to another and summing up the total time spent there?) With an European passeport I can hardly stay more than 1 or 2 months :(
see my recent video on VISA situation - - ua-cam.com/video/CVW-MaZx-PY/v-deo.html
What's the best Thailand place on the water that's got some work ability or access to Internet and the best beaches that's what I want to know
I went to Bangkok and Chiang Mai a few months back. Loved Chiang Mai. I was stuck in NANA in Bangkok and it was a pit. What's a better area of Bangkok to live?
Quieter area to live in bkk is On Nut or Rama 9
I'd do somewhere near Chatuchak park. The 140 acre park in middle of the city is gorgeous and the Saturday market every week is incredible.
What is your daily budget here
Bali 💕 cuz we have support our own country
As Indonesian of course Bali are good, Jogjakarta are perfect 👌💃🏻💃🏻
:)
Thanks for this! I lived in bali for near 2 years (ubud), and am now considering both chiang mai and saigon. This is helpful.
Awesome :) 😎🤙🌴 thx for watching
Bangkok is just one big car park
Bali should seriously clean their main beach, the last time i went i love the place but not crazy about the beach
Nah it doesn’t get ‘bad’ ... life is always beautiful out here 😎🌴
‘Rainy’ season = a bit more frequent and harder showers that last less than an hour. But most of the day it’s sunny year round.
Love Bangkok so diverse made Thai friends in 3 day hung with her and her band all week ...and every amenity you can think of ...getting Bored in BKK would be work
Yep!
How did you find your condo for $600 a month in Bangkok? What area? Did you use a website to find it? I could not find anything for less than $1200. Thanks for the great video. I vote for Bali, but love Bangkok.
Found on airbnb

Soon come! Thx for folllowing!
Bali good in the beach and culture💗
Feels like New York City, even though I've never been there
Power point! Makes more sense! Power outlet, sounds like a clothing outlet stores (dfo). Plug in the plug at the power point! Hahah.
Great video though! Keep up the awesome work boys!

Can you in invest in real estate in these places?
Cause i know it is very difficult to buy a home, cause it will never be your own. right?

Bali looks hip. I like the beach vibe and cleaner air of Pattaya. Any thoughts on that or Hua Hin?
Nice. Haven’t been to Hua Hin. U?
@@livinthatlife Not yet hopefully next trip.
@@tedforest9774 which one is best for accommodation and cost of living : )
The air in Bali is often terribly polluted as the Balinese like to burn their garbage, which releases serious toxic fumes and smells foul. Many of the beaches are awfully dirty, too. And, of course, Balinese food simply can't compare with Thai cuisine.
Where do you guys find local places to stay long term a few months at a time?
Airbnb 100%
“Power point “ is commonly known as power outlet among commonwealth countries. Americans show exclamation on everything they don’t understand!
I am local in krabi and i miss Krungthep since long time no see,,,,just boring rural wanna visit big city
BALI TEAM. Nice beach and many outdoor activities. Bangkok too poluted and dirty, hard to walk on street.
yee!
Punspace and runescape
The Man! Catch u again when ur back in these parts 😎
Bangkok is the best place in southeast Asia. Bali just best place from all Indonesia province . Too far if u compare with Thailand.
Yee buddy
Vietnam wants a word with you

"
Love Bangkok n Chiangmai but BALI hands down

ANYwhere in the world u will find amazing food.... because people love amzgin food! :)
Great insight gents, I am considering on checking out Chang mai, any tips on how you manage & have long term stay on a visa please.
Check out my recent video on visa situation ua-cam.com/video/CVW-MaZx-PY/v-deo.html
How do you find a villa to share in Bali? We would like to do this with families with toddler 😀
Nice! U can start on Airbnb
Finally I find young non douchebags or midle-aged beer bellied possibly english men presenting their favorites. THANK YOU! I loveeee Bali esp UBUD
Haha thx Teresa cheers 🍻
Your music is far too loud and unpleasant. Turn it down and put some effort in finding relaxing music.
The information you provide is great. Have you heard the full video?
I like Chiang mai very nice city and good food😊
i heard there was a Sunday night market that is the shit
BKK is 2-3 times the cost of CM ? I’ve never heard anyone else say that.
As always depends how u live
What part of Bangkok are you guys in?
On Nut
Thank you
Chaing mai does NOT HAVE 800,000 people. A quick search proves that wrong. Some of you Vloggers I just think make stuff up
PowerPoint is a program you use for presentations, lol.
Thank you!
It's a little sad to think Spicy is the biggest club in Chiang Mai!?
There are bigger local clubs
Like 10x spicy size .. but spicy is the post popular tourist club tho ya
Interesting point! Thx for sharing .. I’d be interested in hearing more ppls take on this
Bali beautiful
Spent several years living and working in Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh. I got tired of being treated like a second class citizen in a third country. South East Asia in a nut shell. When I finally realized this is just the way things are and they weren't going to change anytime soon, I did what a lot of other smart westerners do... I left.
So where did you go?
Robert DominicanRepublic ok. Bye, Felicia.
Huh, Thai people are very nice, just lack of English speaking skills
I thought the same thing! Was so confused about his power point presentation.
Excellent video :)
2 cities is being compared to a whole island of Bali lol. Easy decision when you know if you're a city person or an island person. :-)
I love being a city person and island person - who says we have to choose right 😎🤙
ofcourse Bali! , the title should be Bali vs Thailand
why of course Bali:)
@@livinthatlife next Video should be Thailand vs Philippines
