Because Colbert is a very smart man, not just a very sharp comedian - in the wake of the Weinstein revelations, he could see the rush to male virtue signaling, and Urban’s patronizing version of respect for women, coming a mile away.

Jason Aldean's style set that fine line in place that should've never been crossed in my humble opinion. Although it was a Brantley song, Aldean had a TON of momentum after Big Green Tractor/She's County and when he cut Anthem and My Kinda Party (both Brantley songs) he completely exploded, but some of his deep cuts like This I Gotta See, Wide Open, etc. are GREAT songs. While her first album is good, her second album, I Don't Believe We've Met, is far better and one of my favorites. While Friend Zone is far from her best, it is still highly enjoyable and is no way reminiscent of anything else she's released.
Glad you mentioned "Said No One Ever". It's rare for me to hear a song that's so bad I can't even sit through the entire thing, but I actually had to turn off the radio for that one. The constant repetition of that line was beyond grating.
To me, “Old Town Road” is a genius track. It’s hip-hop, it’s country, its best samples Nine Inch Nails. It’s a genre transcendent bop that deserved every minute it spent at the top.
That was a song, a well crafted and articulated story song by a country god. There's no way they are still playing Old Town Road in 40 years but they will still be playing Don Williams. Forgettable smap, that's 90% of what comes out of Nashville now.
Grady, have you considered (if you haven't done so already) making a video on the most overplayed songs (like on the radio) of a given time? For example, I actually got so annoyed that the radios would play the song "Alcohol" by Brad Paisley when it first came out that, I legitimately hate that song now. Just an idea for a future video! I just discovered your videos today and have already watched & commented on several of them. Keep them coming & thank you!
There are so many awful ones out there right now, it is hard to make a list. I wouldn't even know the names of half of them. Disappointed that some of the more well known ones are making/made such bad music. Why follow the crowd if you have talent? Just remembered one that I cannot listen to, the baseball player guy. Nevermind, I just forgot it. It is that bad. Tall guy, with a weird voice who quit baseball to try and be a star. I will Google it and get back with you 🙃
"Girl I know your favorite beer. Cuz you told me, and I bought it." Ugh that line alone makes me want to jump in front of traffic. Chris lanes "I don't know about you" might be my most hated song ever.
You’re bang on with most of these. I still also really enjoy Yeah. Catchy chord progression although used a lot in country. I like the simplicity of that song. Just going with the flow and being easy going.
There’s a song that’s played constantly on my local country radio station with an intro that sounds exactly like “Yeah” and I’m always slightly disappointed because I’d rather hear a throwback than the crap currently being played
Not gonna like I like “Yeah” by Joe Nichols 😹. “I don’t know about you” by Chris Lane has some of the worst lines in any song ever. Shoulda been on this list.
Ok since you've already said 90% of what I was going to say, I'll just change the Chris Lane song to "For Her" I think it's called. Yikes what a turd. But yes, I jam "Yeah".
Still waiting for a Maddie And Tae review... Also, Laine Hardy released 2 songs. To me, they seem super generic like they could have come from any other country guy, but I'd like your opinion.
Not to mention that today's country is missing its most important elements: 3 cords and the truth. As Travis Tritt said, "Country ain't country no more."
Stuck like glue is the song I grew up dancing in the kitchen with my mom. It may not be a great “country” song, but it’s still a really great song to listen to and has been one of my favorites for a long time.
I like 90s country but it's definitely not the GOAT. Really the GOAT is probably more like the 1950s to the late 70s. You could probably make an argument for the 80s because of guys like Willie Nelson and Hank Jr but I'd say the strongest argument is probably for the 60s with Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and even Elvis.
When I’m in the car, or partying around the house I love “yeah” and “truck yeah” (among others) they are good doings with repetitive lyrics you don’t have to focus on and can have a convo over them 😂
I really hated having to spend the summer of 2019 explaining how "Old Town Road" isn't country to people who argue until they're blue in the face that it IS country, even though 99% of the time they'd never let anything twangier than Miley Cyrus hit their playlist.
Old Town Road is not Country or Rap...it’s trash. Let’s be real. That song was like an old guy streaking in the park. Nobody wanted to see it, nobody liked it, but everyone will talk about it.
Thank you! The obvious pandering is annoying and a bit insulting. It wasn’t a tribute to women, more like a ploy to use a hot-topic issue to sell records.

To me, “Old Town Road” is a genius track. It’s hip-hop, it’s country, its best samples Nine Inch Nails. It’s a genre transcendent bop that deserved every minute it spent at the top.
I love how one of the first things you said was “ I tried to find some of the crappiest things I could think of,”
I'm sorry but I love "yeah", and "stuck like glue"
Kinda hard to keep Jennifer Nettles and Sugar apart from each other, I mean she does play in a band called Sugarland 😂
It's all turning into a porn script welded to a beat. Give me Don Williams' ''Good Ole Boys Like Me'' anytime.
ya pg porn script
Grady, you should cover some Country music by Canadian singers, namely Colter Wall and Paul Brandt
Yes! Paul Brandt is like our answer to George Strait.
He has covered Colter Wall
And Corb Lund
And Dean Brody
I think “Kick the Dust Up” should’ve made the list. Sooo cringe worthy.
Mark Mainzer I mean I agree but it really speaks to how cringy country music was in the 2010s when that didn’t make it on the list
yes
LETS TEAR IT UP, UP
I agree. Not Luke’s best by any means.
@@nickwhitaker4103 That's my favorite Luke Bryan song.
My list would be way to long. But I'd include Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Dan and Shay, Dustin Lynch, FGL, Jason Aldean, Dylan Scott, etc.
Matthew Gut Yea Dan & Shay is one of the worst things to ever come into the country music scene. Hate them.
I've never even heard that Friend Zone song and I'm not sad for missing it.
The new Zac Brown stuff is atrocious
Lmao I thought Sam Hunt was a doucher, then you introduced me to the ripped jort wearing Dylan Scott 😂😂😂😂
Both are horrible artists.
I get where you’re coming from with Yeah, but I jam to that song. I feel like it walks the line of being simple without falling into cringey/annoying
"Truck Yeah", "Stuck like glue", and "Yeah" are definitely just fun songs to listen to for me
You’re bang on with most of these.
That's how good a singer Nichols is. He can take a weak song like that and make it listenable.
I like "Yeah" also! I was genuinely surprised that it was included.
@Justin Thompson not Jameson Rodgers best song writing 😬 on that song.
Still waiting for a Maddie And Tae review...
Also, Laine Hardy released 2 songs. To me, they seem super generic like they could have come from any other country guy, but I'd like your opinion.
Brittan Candela Maddie and Tae’s record was really mediocre
I was kinda disappointed with Laine.
I love Lain Hardy, him and Luke Bryan are my 2 favorite singers
Not to mention that today's country is missing its most important elements: 3 cords and the truth. As Travis Tritt said, "Country ain't country no more."
Stuck like glue is the song I grew up dancing in the kitchen with my mom. It may not be a great “country” song, but it’s still a really great song to listen to and has been one of my favorites for a long time.
Yessss, finally someone talking about “Truck Yeah.” Ugh, that’s such a horrid song 😖 I love Tim McGraw, but not that song.
I don't listen to country and thought you just made that name up lmao
S. Gardiner
See, and I'm not a huge fan of that song, but I'll take it over "Highway Don't Care". Still, love my man Tim McGraw 😎
That song made me never want to listen to him again
Stuck like Glue is such a bop (I am probably only saying that because they play it when I go lane dancing but STILL)
Alexandra Jensen Stuck like glue is an absolute jam
Luckily, I’d never heard most of these. I disagree with one. I love “Yeah” by Joe Nichols. The video is pretty bad but I love the song.
I like yeah too. Not my top pick but I think it is a nice piece
Robbin Scarberry terrible excuse for country
The video for Stuck Like Glue is hilarious though 😂
90s country is the goat of all country
Nah 80's
I like 90s country but it's definitely not the GOAT. Really the GOAT is probably more like the 1950s to the late 70s. You could probably make an argument for the 80s because of guys like Willie Nelson and Hank Jr but I'd say the strongest argument is probably for the 60s with Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and even Elvis.
I agree with all of these except for stuck like glue, idk I think it’s kinda good
Her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Never have liked anything from her/them.
Andrew Freeman yup
When I’m in the car, or partying around the house I love “yeah” and “truck yeah” (among others) they are good doings with repetitive lyrics you don’t have to focus on and can have a convo over them 😂
I really hated having to spend the summer of 2019 explaining how "Old Town Road" isn't country to people who argue until they're blue in the face that it IS country, even though 99% of the time they'd never let anything twangier than Miley Cyrus hit their playlist.
GrantH One of my friends said lil nas x was country but he doesn’t even know any actual country singers or country songs
Old Town Road is not Country or Rap...it’s trash. Let’s be real. That song was like an old guy streaking in the park. Nobody wanted to see it, nobody liked it, but everyone will talk about it.
No because he talks about horses it makes it country
ok boomer
I hate the song “female”. It’s so annoying. It’s like the nerdy guy who will worship the ground the female walks on just to sleep with her.
Thank you! The obvious pandering is annoying and a bit insulting. It wasn’t a tribute to women, more like a ploy to use a hot-topic issue to sell records.
The ridiculous song is even counted as country... that’s sad
I'm so glad that this is the first and the last time I've ever heard of most of these artists (haley georgia, walker hayes, dylan scott, etc)
"Will Smith bside, run through Instagram filter" I'm dying😂😂
I've never clicked a video so quickly not gonna lie
"Yeah" was a banger
Hell naw
I love it too.
You are brilliant. I stumbled on your list and analysis because I wanted to be exposed to something different. Truly fun and thoughtful commentary
