Great review, im tempted by these tents....mainly because i keep seeing ads come up every time im on UA-cam.. i dont really even need another tent, but it is 1kg lighter than my 4 season tent. And i like the design.

Light and do the job. Fine for 3 season use and cheaper enough to be almost disposable.

It'd do to give to the kids for fishing🤠👍. You could happily sew on a few more tie-outs to assist with wind- proofing & rigidity. I'm not the first to say this but it's a bloody Tardis‼️it looks tiny from outside 😊👍

I have multiple tents but really want a camo one for tall people (188cm). So apparently this one is not it :). One that really has great value I think is the grand canyon cardova 1 with camo print. It's a diamond shaped tent without a vestibule, so ideal for tall people. If you buy it and review it I will buy it to :)

    • @jim-bob-outdoors

For tall people wanting camo, the Dutch army tent takes some beating. Its really long, but a bit on the heavy side because its canvas. All comes down to how far you are walking with it.

Reminds me a bit of the Vango NYX200 although the vango is double skin and is 3000hh. Slightly heavier due to more material but just as cheap. GoOutdoors has them for £45 at the moment.

100% the same pros and cons i would give this tent. including the "ventilation-stick" and the point "i would pay a price for an improved version".
i have the little brother "schwarzenberg" 1 person /1300g
    some upgrades:
-tie some line from left frontend tension line to right side tension line. use prusik-knot. you can now hang the front "door" /flap over it and use the lower velcro monted on the door to close it "partway" (pull up the mid of the door, while rest is closed). it helps with the much needet "flow-trought" air flow and keeps light rain out.
i made an elaborated version with some belt and fastex.
-the ventstick works fine, but as a german i have to engineer things, ja! ;) so i stiched a few inches of line to the air hood, pull it through the loop for the back tension line and put a cord stopper at the end.
-my matress and sleepingbag stay in the tent. i roll it all together like a aussie-swag. the matress is an exped air mat with 197cm lengh and gives my tent a nice stability. this way i dont need a tent peg and can move the set up tent around. note that i usually use tent pegs for better stability and less wind noises.
-one last +point: stealth. this tent ist so stealthy, mine have a hight of only 90cm, it blends in well with ground vegetation. it has no noticeable pikes like a traditional pole tent. pull out tensionline pegs and one side of the pole and it collapses if needet.
    -the BIG issue: weight

@@jim-bob-outdoors i hope you get the point on my ideas, dispite my bad english ;)
story to the tent: i saw and liked it 10 years ago and liked it. didnt had the money to buy yet another tent. a good friend didnt need and liked it anymore (condensing water, user fault;) and gifted it to me like brand new.
i like this tent, good bang-for-the-buck, lil heavy, cheaply build.
weight can be reduceed by the use of 7 titanium pegs (~25€).
note: allways set ALL pegs, this helps with reducing windnoises and gives stabillity.
i would like to pay tripple the price to have features like: bigger pocket(s), better door/netting-roll up, light wight tent fabric, venting left and right at the front, better netting material that doesnt interfere with velcros, 2 more velcro pads at the "door", additional roof mounted loop for lamps mid tent.

I do like a flextarn pattern, I keep looking at highlander blackthorn htmc , I love the pattern, it's a pocket money tent but I just worry I'll hate it. @jim-bob-outdoors  3 роки тому +2

I would say the Blackthorne 1 is a great tent for the money. Higher hydrostatic head than the one in my video and taped seams. In Flecktarn it would be easy to disappear in the woods.

@@jim-bob-outdoors Flextarn is definetly good in dense British woodland. Head and shoulders better at disappearing over woodland DPM. I saw (or rather I didn't) some MTP/multicam style tents like the blackthorn on Dartmoor and amoung the rocky outcrops, rolling hills and long grass they were all but invisible.. 🤔mmmmm now do I need tent number 10? 😊🤣

    • @jim-bob-outdoors

It needs the guy lines to keep it in shape, because the hoops both run the same direction. If I used it on concreate I would attach the guy lines to house bricks or something like that. I have put it up in a warehouse and put the guy lines under a couple of fire extinguishers.

The widely held view of most people on youtube is.
    A 2 man tent = 1 man in comfort/space for a pack
A 1 man tent is the size of a coffin, with no space for anything, except the man of course.
Nice little tent for sure, but i'm always a bit wary of anything single skinned. I seem to produce twice the condensation of the average man.

    • @jim-bob-outdoors
      @jim-bob-outdoors  3 роки тому

Yes I always say go +1 for the amount of people. I have never had much condensation in this one unless its been very cold outside.
