I have had and carried my SR9 for a few years. I shoot it often and have put 27,600 rounds thru it. I reload my own ammo, so my round count is pretty accurate. I have had 7 failures that were not related to experimenting with reloads. 2 of these failures were random possible light loads. 5 of them all happened around the 18,000 round mark. I have carried this thing so much that the finish has worn off in many places, and I would not trade it for any other semi auto made today. @@zachstrickland3876 I still have and love my SR9. Due to the size of it I have changed up my EDC to a smaller Glock 19 gen 5, but the SR9 is still in a biometric safe on my headboard. The change of heart I mentioned above is my opinion of the Security 9. It's a better gun than I thought it would be, but still not on the level of the SR9. You can tell when you fire them back to back the Security 9 is much cheaper made. It still works, but I have to admit it has not been out of the safe in over a year.
For those of you saying the security 9 cannot handle thousands of rounds must never have owned one just because it has aluminum slide rails does not mean they're weak it's not 10 foil it's hardened aluminum. I've had my security 9 for a few years now and I've put well over 6,000 rounds through it and it works perfect every time without any failures. In my opinion you'd be crazy not to get the Ruger Security 9 especially at a budget price.
Nice to see a solid side-by-side breakdown and comparison. Also nice to see someone else who decided to get both, because I opted for the S9 initially and I enjoy it but I still really want an SR as well. Maybe I'll try out the SR40 just for something a little different. The SR frame is extremely comfortable to shoot and easy to hit exactly what you're aiming for. Ruger gives you a lot of bang for the buck, its hard not to be a fan.
The manual for the Security 9 says not to shoot +P+ ammo, whereas the SR9/9E manual does not. After seeing the difference in barrels I can see why. I already have an American and a 9E, but the Security is calling to me. Guess I'll end up with yet another Ruger in the near future.
+P should be fine. +P+ is what the manual warns against. I don't personally shoot +P+ out of any gun anyway, since there are no SAAMI pressure standards for +P+ ammo. 👍
In my view +P+ is only good for wearing out a firearm faster. If +P doesn't satisfy, move up to the next caliber. Maybe some guys think +P++ or +P+++ would be even cooler?...see my point?
With the American, SR9, Security 9, LC9, LC9s, EC9s and all the older out of manufacture P Series guns, Ruger has had a shit load of experience with 9mm!
Bought the Security 9 and love it. I'm here watching videos about it because it is too late to go to the range today. I've put about 500 rounds through the S9, and it hates bad, dirty ammo. But who doesn't? Otherwise, it is a fine gun. I'm currently favoring this over my other 9mm, which is a Beretta 92FS. Yup, you heard me. Design aesthetics might be better on the 92, but the S9 is a lot of fun.
I have a Security 9 and an LC9s. Both are extremely enjoyable to shoot and I've had only two malfunctions, both during the initial break in. Hundreds of rounds later and nary a hiccup from either. I haven't tried shooting aluminum or steel case yet so I don't know how well they'll work with the cheap stuff, but brass loads of all kinds work just fine.
Thanks for your comparison. I've owned an SR 45 since last October and love it. Price has been the only stopper keeping me from getting an SR 9 but I'd love to have one. The Security 9 is a pistol I just couldn't resist. You mention the trigger being much like a striker fired pistol. I saw an interview with a Ruger product manager. He explained the trigger by saying that racking the slide pre-cocks it about 95% so trigger pull when you fire is the remaining 5%. I was skeptical at first but the overwhelming good reviews convinced me to purchase it and I'm not disappointed.
👍I own a SR9. No complaints, failures. Have many Rugers. Wouldn't own a firearm i didn't trust my life to. The new Security 9 looks like a big brother to the LCP ll which i own also. All reliable guns. I would spend the extra bucks and get the SR9. MHO✌
Gregg Wonder I traded 2 of my Ruger 9mm's for 1 Glock 19....love it! I still have my lcp2, wouldn't sell that for 💩! I carry it in my pocket and no one knows it's there...
Good video. I own the SR9 with similar modifications. I once owned the SR45 and it was a terrible experience: went back to Ruger three times and the gun still stove piped, locked up, etc. The problems were never resolved and the Ruger customer service dropped off a bit as they became defensive. You'll see lots of videos complaining about the 45. But the SR9 is wonderful.
Good video. I'm down from six Glocks to one, a mildly modded G4 G17. I kept it just because, but I still prefer the "1911" grip angle over the Glock grip angle. If I point and shoot, I will hit a little high with a Glock; I'm not a pro. I can point and shoot naturally at 7 yards with the SR9 on target. My first SR9 replaced my then G3 G17. My first SR9c replaced my G3 G19. A second SR9c replaced a Canik that I really liked. I did not anticipate this affinity, but whenever I do side by side comparisons, the SR9 models shine. I fully expected the Canik to replace the SR9c; it was close, but the SR9c edged it out and something had to go.
Agree with you again! The Sec-9 isn't a firearm you expect to pass down the generations. It's more like a utility van. Use it, don't worry about how it looks. When it gets old, buy something else. Good thing Ruger is coming out with new models about every month lately. You'll have plenty of things to collect & review. :) -
While i do like the security 9 I agree that I isnt meant to be a high round count pistol, like the SR9. Kinda like a black and decker cordless drill would be fine for light house maintenance But serious tradesmen go for Rigid/dewalt/Milwaukee. Want to see how security 9 would hold up after 6-8 thousand rounds.
Those serious craftsman are still buying a Chinese tool. I wouldnt be surprised if B&D were owned by the same company as the colored big box brands. Both will hold up but you will have spent more for perhaps a few more options that likely won't mean much. Someone who wants to make an investment is going to buy a Hilti. This Sec 9 is not a joke. There is nothing missing over the Glock 19. Hell, they even give you a safety on this and you dont even have to use it. We need to get over this price snobbery thing. Doing mental gymnastics to invent arguments about how this thing won't last. It's an upscaled version of a great and already tested gun with nothing new going on inside. The polymer rod is the same as the Glock. Why wont it last? The smart guy buys the Sec 9 over the 19, passes go, keeps $200 and owns the Ruger for many years because the quality is the same. And you just happend to buy American, too. Win-win.
I think you may have misunderstood my comment. Like I said I'm sure the security 9 will last for the guy who shoots 200 rounds a year forever. What I am afraid of is just like the LCP the aluminum slide rails will break after several thousand rounds. I am not a price snob. And def not a Glock fan, I hate them. I got rid of my glocks after shooting the SR series pistols and we now have 2 SR9c and 2 9E pistols. The 9Es were 300 bux and I love beating guys in IDPA and USPSA with their high dollar guns. I shoot 400 to 800 rounds a month and my Rugers are awesome. Just not sold on the long term durability of the Security 9 yet. Finally I never said any thing about polymer guide rods. I just run the factory polymer rods in my guns and the work great.
Excellent point. The LCP's all are prone to failure with any substantial amount of ammo down range. Frame Cracks, split rails, take down pins walking out or failure. There is NO protection on the stress point of the Security 9. My gosh the difference in built quality over the Security 9 is staggering. Get the SR9!!
I've had my ruger Sr9 for over 10 years and it's still one of my most accurate pistols. The only thing I've done is install a ghost connector set. It's the one of my pistols I can trust to know that if I carry it I won't have any issues. Trust is a big thing when you expect it to be able to defend you in life threatening situations.
I just got the PC Carbine as well. I am looking at pairing a handgun. Can't decide between the SR9/Security or a Glock. I live in a 10 round state so the quantity doesn't matter. I'm a big dude so I don't really want a compact anything. I will most likely head to a range that rents and see which feels better. I am leaning to Glock because of the aftermarket options, but I don't want to count out Ruger's options. Did you decide?

A transfer bar is the part that moves up and down on the Ruger revolvers when pull the trigger it comes up between the firing pin hammer and when trigger is not pulled its down and the hammer will not hit the firing pin the security 9 just has a firing pin not a transfer bar.
For folks wondering, the Security 9’s magazines can be used in the SR9, but not NOT the other way around. If you are looking to buy the PCC 9mm carbine, that Rifle has mag adapters for the Sec9/SR9, Glock, and American (sold separately).

That's a good question. I understand the PC Carbine can use either magazine, so apparently the receiver is the same mechanically. I assume the 15 won't fit in the longer SR9 grip, but the S9 should be able to take the 17.

Looking at an SR9E up against the Security 9. Same price at my local dealer, so I’m looking for reasons to go one way or the other. I realize the SR9 and 9E have slight differences in machining, but this is as close as I could find for a comparison, so thanks! Perhaps some of you Ruger guys could weigh in?
The 9e is basically a more economical SR9, while the Security is just an LCP2 that's been scaled up. The 9e is a much sturdier piece. Mine has never failed once in 3 years now, though I believe it's no longer made.
Being on the ruger kick! I have never liked ruger except the original 22 auto. Never bought one. Wish I had. Wife bought the 380 LCPII. RECENTLY I WENT TO MY LOCAL GUN STORE AND THE SECURITY 9 GOT IN THE ( GOT TO HAVE IT ZONE) bought one and had to have the Security 9 compact! Now I think I want the Ruger 9E.
But the Security 9 has a better picatinny rail. That may curve a buyer’s decision if they, like me, have a number of attachments that aren’t capable with the smooth surface rail on that SR9
I just picked up a 9e in 2020. It is to my understanding that it is the same gun as the sr9. They made the 9e less expensive by skipping some machining steps such as less engraving and other cosmetic machining on the slide. It also comes with one mag and no extra grip inserts. Also just a cardboard box rather than a hard case. Got mine for $300. The mag it does come with says sr9 on it and all sr9 mods work with it.
Nice comparison.... Years ago I had a SR9 which I liked but no longer own.... Recently I bought a Ruger 9E for 259.00 which I actually like better than the SR9... I plan to buy a Security 9 which seems to be selling for about the same price as the 9E.... I did not hear you mention if the sites on the security 9 metal or plastic ?
I went with the 20lb spring on mine (9e) and it's been 100% reliable through 1500+/- rounds. I'm also running the smoothit kit from galloway, kit3. I'm measuring my trigger pull right around 4lbs and there's no grit on the pull...also no wall before the sear releases the striker, it feels more like a light double action pull vs a plastic striker fired pistol I'd personally go with the 22lbs spring if I were to do it again, but I typically shoot hotter ammo (nato spec) at the range and use +p and +p+ underwood ammo when I carry my 9e. I purchased this gun to be my woods carry when hunting although I have shot lots of standard pressure in it as well. the 20lbs spring has no problems cycling winchester white box, blazer brass, aguila 124 rn, tula, etc. I'm not sure if the 22lbs spring would start to induce failures or not with standard pressure ammo but the slide moves faster than I like with the underwood +p+ with the 20lbs spring hence my preference for the 22lbs spring
Richard Black i bought the stock weight 18 lbs . It works perfect for me. Honestly i didnt read far enough down to see that they recomended the 20lbs spring. O well it runs perfect
Love my security 9 compact but the sr9 is way better it's very solid and built like a tank security 9 just feels a little cheap hence it's a budget gun so I understand
The SR9 was built before some of the so called advanced we will have to see how it holds up over time? I personally think you will find over Time that the security 9 holds up just fine and the lighter equipment holds
Good video. My SR9C has been flawless for 5 years. Very comfortable to carry. The S9 looks good. If I needed another pistol I would get it. I trust Ruger with my life.
So you can shoot a bad guy 10 times as aposed to 15 or 17 ? In the great country, I mean state, of Texas you could buy a glock pistol that will take a 30 round magazine! Although I prefer Ruger(made in America)👍👍
David Alley ... yes made in Smyrna Georgia. I have owned a couple of them so far and other than the made in USA stamp on the slide there is no difference from the Austrian models
David Alley I believe the glocks from Georgia are just a assembled there they're still not made with American parts I think that's just an assembly plant and a servicing plant
I have a 9e.....love it...great pistol....the sr series are built strong.just don't run winchester white box in it...even ruger says not to....wont cycle.
But if I rarely ever shoot the Security 9 & take care of it. Shouldn't it last me a considerable amount of time? Just wondering.. Y'all in the comments make it sound like its brittle & shitty.
Kibito Kai i think it eoukd last just as long people become gun snobs its a budget 15 round 9mm i dont think its cheap, but feels cheap in the hand. A hi point will last you years if you never plan to use it intensively. People get all up in there feelings about guns trigger this/reset that blah blah blah. Buy it shoot it have fun with it. When you break down the SR9 and look closely you can see the steel metal at the stress points. The SR series is a much better gun in all areas of build quality. For instance, break down a Beretta vs LC9S and a huge difference in quality. And yes the barrel is so much thicker that than the Ruger. Bigger extractor, stainless steel chassis that is modular. And more weight in all parts. What a shame Ruger is not building the Tanks like they use to. The Security 9 is no more than a LCP ll clone. And the LCP is one gun that will not go for a lot of rounds down range. They will fall apart. Broken grips, chassis, take down pins break. Yes the masses of Newbies buy em up like hot pancakes. Go figure.

I know the sr9 mags will not work in the security 9 and vise versa. I don't know about the compact ones though.
But the Security 9 has a better picatinny rail. That may curve a buyer’s decision if they, like me, have a number of attachments that aren’t capable with the smooth surface rail on that SR9
Which is a better 9mm ruger.the american, sr9 or security?
Question. Will the sr9c compact pistol accept the full size security 9 pistol's magazines?
I'm looking for a retention level II or III holster for a Security 9 any suggestions
Have u found anything im still looking
Can you make a video on the Ruger Security 9 Vs the Ruger 9E, which has been discontinued. The 9E was replaced by the Security 9.
Demondre Perry... Thanks
What weight guide rod spring did you get for your SR9? I am going to upgrade the guide rod and the striker return bar!
Richard Black i got the factory weight. On gallaways website they tell you what your gun came with. I belive its 18lbs
On Target I was just curious if you got the stock weight or tried their suggested 20lb!
I went with the 20lb spring on mine (9e) and it's been 100% reliable through 1500+/- rounds. I'm also running the smoothit kit from galloway, kit3. I'm measuring my trigger pull right around 4lbs and there's no grit on the pull...also no wall before the sear releases the striker, it feels more like a light double action pull vs a plastic striker fired pistol
I'd personally go with the 22lbs spring if I were to do it again, but I typically shoot hotter ammo (nato spec) at the range and use +p and +p+ underwood ammo when I carry my 9e.
O well it runs perfect
where did you get the grips I can't find them?
Very informative. Much appreciated
Do they fit into the same holsters ?
So nice the SR9. .....want one.
Great review.....I was wondering about these 2!
For the record, the Security-9 will fit into a blackhawk sportster series non serpa SR9 holster.
Are the mags interchangeable?
No they are not
@@austinbands2617 I believe the sr9 mags fit the security 9, but not vice versa
Are the magazines interchangeable magazines?
Earl Foster no
On Target damn it. Oh well thank you.
Will the sec 9 fit an sr9 level 3 holster...please help
Will the sr9 mags fit in the security 9?
Clint Burt no
Love my security 9 compact but the sr9 is way better it's very solid and built like a tank security 9 just feels a little cheap hence it's a budget gun so I understand
Looking to get a Security9, according to Ruger, they are discontinuing the SR's, sorry I just recently sold my 9E and SR9c.
The 9e and the src are discontinued the sr9s are still here just bought one new 2 months ago
Does anyone know of a lock duty holster that will work well with the security 9 since there are not many holster option for this new model?
Try a desantis holster
Great job! Thank-you!
So you can shoot a bad guy 10 times as aposed to 15 or 17 ? In the great country, I mean state, of Texas you could buy a glock pistol that will take a 30 round magazine!
Although I prefer Ruger(made in America)👍👍
David Alley .. Glocks are now made in America too
propdoctor21564
Your right, thank you for reminding me. Some are made in Georgia I think....👍
On Target
Ohhhhh...so they are still technically made in Austria. I'll stick with my Ruger pistols any how...🔫🙄
Long wanted a Security 9 but money not there. Maybe someday.
Tax season.
I have a 9e.....love it...great pistol....the sr series are built strong.just don't run winchester white box in it...even ruger says not to....wont cycle.
Sights on the sr9e what are they
Armando1228 i have trijicon hds on it
Will they fit SR9 e in your opinion looking for sights
SR9 was such a great handgun. I don't care for the Security 9 much.
Good review.
I am sorry you got your SR9 for $420 I got my 9E for $275 Brand new only fire tested at the manufacturer from what I was told when I bought it
SR9 has better finish and machining than 9E, hence price difference.
I hate 10 round states I'm in Chicago
Yeah the sr9 look wayy wayyy better
Debatable. Both good looking. I lean towards the security 9
Try buying that Ruger security 9 280 now it ain't happening
But if I rarely ever shoot the Security 9 & take care of it. Shouldn't it last me a considerable amount of time? Just wondering.. Y'all in the comments make it sound like its brittle & shitty.
Kibito Kai i think it eoukd last just as long people become gun snobs its a budget 15 round 9mm i dont think its cheap, but feels cheap in the hand. A hi point will last you years if you never plan to use it intensively. People get all up in there feelings about guns trigger this/reset that blah blah blah. Buy it shoot it have fun with it. I own plenty of higher priced pistols vs cheap or budget they all go bang when you pull the trigger. If you like it keep it if not sell it and go buy something else life is a learning curve make yours count!
It's a good gun I bought mine for my 21 birthday back in February shot 500 or less in total haven't had any problems so far
@@clintburt9821 I have to agree. After reading a billion gun reviews/comments I've come to believe world war III will be over trigger pulls or take down ease.Guys sure get riled up over their opinions on the smallest things. Can you imagine what guys do in countries that don't allow citizens to own their own guns---they must be bored silly.
Kibito Kai The Security 9 is a great gun, you will have nothing to worry about. The people that say it isn’t as good as this or that, have bought way overpriced guns that they rarely shoot. If you clean this gun and don’t run hot custom rounds through it, it will last you your lifetime.
It's a good gun I bought mine a year ago and I love it!
DAMM ! who taught you how to clear a weapon ? COD ? you clear it and insterted full magazines back in the weapon ,,That weapon is not cleared !
Own both a SR9E & SR9C
take the time to write a script and rehears it.
Hero Support thank for the input. I kinda just sit down and freestyle it. Sometime theres just not enough hours in the day
it will probably help to write down your thoughts on the firearms your reviewing take some time to come up with your own format and it may end up becoming natural for your freestyle.
okay uh
10 round state?!?!?! Damn, those libs are sneaky...
Boring video dude. Here is my input. Looked at many 9s. I rate the security 9 a very strong buy. Value, accurate, solid. Worth every penny.
ADD?
Sr 9 all day
Video putting me to sleep😵
Click the little gear button under the video and change the speed to 2x.
Low information people are easily bored.

The SR9 is a great pistol. But the Security 9 looks and feels very cheap to me.
Go figure.
The lcp isnt meant to shoot at the range its a deep concealment pistol for self defense
Your hands look like a woman's hands. I mean that as a compliment....I think. Nice review👍
Shane Miller hahahahah in what world is that a compliment? Thanks for watching
spend $400 ?? Why not GLOCK 19 much better
I own both, the Security 9 and a SCCY CPX-2....No similarities. So try again...............
Pull the chassis out of both pistols then tell me their not simalar
