One of the best choreographed action scene I must say. Some over smart pals will come up with lot of mistakes here probably but considering the year of its release it's still one of the best. 😮😎👍🏻
It’s brilliant. A lot of people point out that the helicopter probably couldn’t have kept up with the train, but who cares? It’s a brilliant scene, a thrilling climax!
"Mr. Director, the whole scene with the TGV and the helicopter and the tunnel doesn't work, because of the overhead line" - "Who needs overhead lines, get rid of them..." 😂
Eh? Why would it take so long to get a close-up of a perfectly safe prop being slowly rotated a few inches from an actor? You do know that he didn't actually use a real, sharp helicopter blade but a prop moved by production crew off camera...? Either you're talking out your backside or someone in a behind the scenes was making things up.
In some ways CGI and digital compositing doesn't seem to have improved that much in the last twenty years or so. How good it is now mainly comes down to how much time and money is invested in it. You're absolutely right - if that's not enough, it can still look atrocious. There was obviously a lot of investment here. It does look incredibly good for 1996, and holds up very well now.
I miss the days when you didn’t see anything about a big summer film, until the trailer. They kept the project under tight wraps, and before the internet, that was possible. Than that trailer hit, and everyone was stoked.
Yeah it's like whenever I see a trailer in the cinema now, it's like "Trailer 1" of a movie whose third trailer I've already seen twice on UA-cam. Not exciting anymore.
When did that ever happen? I remember reading Starlog and Premiere magazine back in the 80s trying to learn everything about upcoming movies before they came out. The information was out there, it was just harder to get to before the internet was invented.
I like how Dead Reckoning Part 1 paid tribute to the first movie with having Kittridge return, Brian De Palma’s closeup paranoia cinematography, and having a final fight set on a train.
I doubt it. Kittridge was more of a pain for Ethan. He is ‘by the book’ but to a fault in many ways. In the end I think Kittridge will be secretly helping Ethan and his team out while pretending to be in his way on the surface.
I agree but Ghost Protocol was so good. Them having their plans constantly fall apart and them reacting to the impossible. The only thing missing was more Rhames
Kreiger trying to kill Ethan with the helicopter blade always creeps me out, especially with that gleeful smile of his. 3:59 Always love how Ethan looks back and was like 'I'm still alive? That was close!'
There were several times in this scene where Ethan was screwed and Krieger ironically saved his life a couple of them. If Krieger doesn't do the quick thinking to fly the attached chopper into the tunnel, then it crashes and explodes outside the tunnel with the debris probably killing both Ethan and Jim in the process. Then if Krieger just slows the chopper down instead of trying to kill Ethan with the blades, there's no way Ethan would have been able to jump onto the chopper and he'd instead be stuck on a speeding train hanging on for dear life while Jim and Krieger get away.
Even though this is obviously so over the top, the way it's been shot looks so much more "grounded" and realistic compared to everything shown in the latest one. I wish we would have gotten more movies like the first MI. MI3 comes close though.
Read the script, Hunt was supposed to scream "HASTA LASAGNA" right before the explosion, just like Jack had told him. I wonder if they filmed that take.
When Tom Cruise pastes the explosive on the helicopter, was he commiting suicide but by pure chance the explosion threw him back on the train, Or did he perfectly calculate that the blast of the explosion would throw him back on the train ?
The Channel Tunnel is only 1 bore per direction, so 1 x 1 track tunnel to france and vice versa. For safety reasons the 2 tunnels are separated with only a very few crossovers and a walking safety / mantenance access tunnel
