I just left Maui yesterday. While I was there I spent around $10,000.00. Business was down everywhere. The people were delighted to get the business. I was amazed at how little is being done in the areas that burned. I’d of thought hundreds of construction workers and heavy equipment would be starting to rebuild. All there is is 5 sheriff’s deputies sitting in their cars keeping watch over the burned town. The only real work that can be seen is the makeshift walls they built along the affected areas. It’s not only Lahaina that was affected. There is another whole area on the road to the National park that the wind took down thousands of huge trees totally taking out power lines. Numerous houses are burned to the ground there as well. No one is doing anything about it for the most part. A utility crew here and there but no rebuilding. The radio stations are full of advertisements from law firms hoping to get people to file lawsuits. You can easily see where the fire started and how it crossed the highway and burned all the way to the beach. I don’t really see a way for a place like this to be self sufficient without tourists. Seems like an awful lot of the working age adult males are busy surfing and hanging at the beach instead of helping rebuild. In 7 days I literally saw no one doing anything productive. I’m sure someone was just not sure where. Tons of land everywhere could be better utilized.
I live on Maui. The burn zone was a vast recovery site until recently. It is toxic. They are letting the residents go in now, in protective gear provided and recommended, because the residents obviously want to see their places, and sift through the ashes. You can imagine the turmoil if they just let everyone and anyone go in all at once. As soon as the residents have closure, FEMA will begin clearing the land of toxins. FEMA is taking applications from residents for free certification so they can hire locals to help with the clean up. After that, infrastructure goes in. It is a slow and costly process. The electric company linesman have been working hard. Sometimes supplies are an issue on an island. For government agencies, it is all hands on deck, coordinating hundreds of things. Please don’t badmouth the efforts. It may look on the surface like nothing is happening to a visitor, but plenty is happening, including the great initiative of this man.
If this was Florida, there would be hundreds of construction workers rebuilding. But this is Hawaii where people have been told it is going to take a year to clear the ash and two years before they can expect to START to rebuild. And Hawaii government thinks that is moving at record speed.
@@davewil3 Maybe so, but Maui has a population of less than 150,000 in a remote area of the planet, and the scope of urban destruction from fire is different than from that of a hurricane. Hurricanes don’t produce toxic ash and destroy all the plumbing, and don’t typically, in Florida, displace an entire town.
Going to take 10 years to clear the ash at the rate they are moving. If everything I owned disappeared in 10 minutes I reckon it’d be hard to rebuild anything if everything I owned was gone. Property taxes, mortgages and other financial obligations need to be put on hold with no penalties. Huge groups of volunteers with free building materials and unlimited food ,water dnd temporary shelter is what’s needed. Let Ukraine and Israel take care of their self inflicted problems themselves. I was wondering the same thing. Didn’t see any fishing boats so I’m guessing you ain’t making a living doing that. In upstate NY the Native Amwrican Indians won there rights back for land on a sovereign nation ruling. they have the right over their land and pay no taxation. Not sure if this could be a path?
Good stuff…. Construction must now be focused on affordable housing for locals, not developers…Millions have been pledged, but getting things done construction wise on Maui will take forever unfortunately. I mean they can’t even find a way to clean up the thousands of abandoned and derelict cars on Maui. A goal of only 10% of their income from tourism might be his desire but it’s not realistic.

It’s really disturbing how some of these goofballs actually believe this place was targeted by lasers from outer space. Maui is nice. I agree 100%. Nice enough for someone to purposely burn the entire place down? Killing countless people? Nobody is signing off on that shit . Sure people are going to be in there buying out anyone who can’t afford to rebuild. Most of the houses I see that aren’t burnt aren’t all that nice. Pretty much like all ocean communities. Old homes with crap strewn around the yard occupied by lazy beach bum types. Only the beachfront gated homes are of any value. The big corporate hotels and rich beachfront people hire everyone across the street and beyond for minimum wages. The locals become slaves to the elites who sit beachfront while those across the street can’t even access the beach. Same story different city.
I pray these tiny “interim” communities will not be turned into the smart community/15 minute cities we’ve all heard about. Sorry, but it sounds like a transition to exactly that. Where are all the gazillion FEMA trailers that were built years ago? This all sounds good but you can’t go from an economic source of 90% to 10% and expect to be self sufficient. 🤷♂

@gayle9428 The Tyrannical patriot act was to be temporary after 9/11. So was tax collection. You need to see how Josh Green Tyrant regards the term temporary.
Where is everyone going to work without tourism? The options provide little income.
I was wondering the same thing. Didn’t see any fishing boats so I’m guessing you ain’t making a living doing that. There are some pretty high end homes around Maui so I’m guessing there is some pretty skilled help. Here in Oregon they’ve been throwing up subdivisions bigger than The whole town of Lahaina literally overnight. It’s amazing how fast the land out here is being built out. Thousands of homes everywhere that 6 months ago were farm fields. Maybe there just isn’t supplies in Maui? Definitely things move at a slower pace around there.
I've seen the spot in-between the East and West Side
Brahdah. we were thinking more like grass shacks and no work when the surf is over 6 '
no tourists
OK as a visitor I went there to look and see what's going on for myself and what I notice is there's fog that hangs over the mountains all day long whose land is that it doesn't matter whose land it is why don't you have fog catchers up there collecting that turning it into drinkable water and sending it to the dry part of the island and why don't you tell the government to take the cloud holding pattern off of the other part of the island the houses I think is so cool giving the food back to the people well yes that's the necessity but right now to kick start what happened yes you do need tourist's
Theres waterfalls on mountains !
In upstate NY the Native Amwrican Indians won there rights back for land on a sovereign nation ruling. they have the right over their land and pay no taxation. Not sure if this could be a path?
Dome homes?
Guess Oprah isn't going to let these tiny homes on her land.
15 Minute Cities
I said from day one after the disaster .... container homes.
And who are you?
This project will fail just like the others that Emotional Eddie Garcia has tried, always with other people's money. Eddie is great at convincing rich people to donate money and resources to his wing bat ideas, but he is terrible at generating any sort of true value or benefit with them. Damn Eddie, you must be dizzy from going round and round in circles! LMAO
If you are an open book, tell us exactly how you got the land and exactly where you got the money. Don't lie, I am going to verify.
The whole idea of putting people up in connex boxes isquestionable. I could personally pour a foundation and frame a 2 bedroom house by myself in a month. These people need a government that wants to kick some ass and git2work.
@@GIT2WORK747 Wow..I need to know you.
this is good (fantastic), then build earth sheltered (UNDERGROUND)...straw bale houses survive a 'normal ' fire , i don't know about these 3000 degree man made ones tho...Creator bless the good...doug
2 months and 0 has been done in Lahaina! Thats what happens when you vote Democrat and half the residents are stoned and lazy.
In HI, Democrat is tantamount to Demolition for achieving demonic INTENT* . Attack on Lahaina achieved initial “ demolition” of area which gives Governor Green LAND GRAB* authority via Emergency Declaration.
Political party affiliation has nothing to do with this.
You are right. Look at every city and state run by Democrats. Terrible.
What you’re doing is brilliant. I hope you can get some of the $1.6M that Go Fund Me exec says was collected for Lahaina.
