Love this video - I have been collecting tape measures to remove the constant force spring but was not sure how to apply this to my project... Now I know the way forward. Thankyou so so much.
Good job,I wish that you could make videos series of kinetic sculpture ....we want all details...step by step...... thanks for your efforts....good luck.
thanks for making these videos. My kinectic sculpture is on hold at the moment. been busy with a few other things, . I have a few issues which are hardware related, the ID of the cheap bearings I iver are slightly oversized for 8mm rod, so they add some slop into the mechanism, which causes some issues, will get it all sorted though
Hah! I've just learned about the existence of constant force springs and that they work by "unrolling a coil of spring steel", and I thought "that sounds a lot like a measuring tape" and here we are :D
Thanks for the great idea. Here was a 5 m tape. I saw 7.5 and 10 m tapes in stores. Will a spring from a longer tape drive the kinetic sculpture much longer?
@@weilianghsu5647 Approx. The one I bought after dismantling is 5.5 m long, 21.5 mm wide and 0.15 mm deep. I am slowly completing the printed elements. Greetings.
I had trouble finding constant force spring myself. The ones from tape measures are not the best quality springs in the world, but they sure do the work.

Thank you so much .
I want to try and make something soon .
Your videos are so helpful.
Ha this is exactly what I did! I came to this video to see if there was a better "right" way:)

Okay, let me know if you have any issue regarding the design.

thank you i have a few projects I printed that needs this
I am glad that it could help!
could you please supply the stl for the spring holder? it would be greatly appreciated
Would you consider selling the 3D printed part for this?

I had not tried the longer ones, but I would assume they will store more energy (the springs might to be wider/thicker).

Can you point a link to that exact tape measure?
Unfortunally I cannot find the exact one online. I just grabbed the cheapest one I can get from a local store.
SaludosdesdeMonterrey Nuevo Leon Mexico muy buen trabajo .cuanto dejas entre ruda yrueda de picos
Hi, is it possible to get design files for 3d print?
Which CAD did you use?
I used Solidworks.
спасибо за науку 😉😄
Creative mind.. thanks for the video

@@weilianghsu5647 yes I found that there is a thicker version of measuring tape. It has pretty decent spring.
@@rameshvk4147 Cool, just be very careful when extracting the spring. It releases tons of energy when removing from its original housing.
Very nice explan
Incrivelmente perfeito!
interesting, thank you
STL file please.
Thank you!!!
Don’t do this, never roll a constant force spring opposite of it’s natural curvature
Could you explain why please? I have tried to search for a reason why it is dangerous but to no avail
That’s not what happened.
make it by your own two hands..................
Fake stuff. Tape spring doesn't work like this. I will show you, how it works.
