For 50% price of a 3pack Clean and renew, this could make 9 pack equivalent £4.60 per 500ml alcohol amzn.to/3qzdGmf £1.99 10ml Lemon oil amzn.to/2XUs506
I added a few drops of Williams Lectric Shave to the alcohol. Smells great, lubricates the blades, and it is hugely less expensive than the Clean and Renew formula.
Yeah I can't believe Braun are still charging so much just for the cleaning solution when they should be charging the cost of what 500ml of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol is, I don't really care about the scent I use after shave lotion after shaving and that's scent enough. Braun are the biggest rip offs on the planet.
Blane Biondolillo I stopped using the docking unit altogether because it died after 8 years of service. I just dip the shaver into the Tupperware. The shaver is nearly 15 years old
Rubbing alcohol (ethanol) Glycerin Lubrication Braun cartridge has glycerin How To Make Braun Clean And Renew Refills Last Longer (3 Easy Steps)” Clean shaver 1 or 2 times per week with water wash and dry head after every use. Remove and cap the cartridge after weekly cleaning. Add a table spoon of rubbing (ethanol) alcohol every week and monthly add a few drops of Glycerin (lubricant) capping and topping off the Braun cartridge should last a few years
Question - My base died so I dont have the lights to remind me when to clean the shaver - do you have any suggestions for when to clean it w/o the base...also how long do you run the shaver in the bath you made? I am charging it not with the cord
Wrong on two counts-- the lubricant is to reduce wear in the moving parts (obviously) and the alcohol, in addition to sanitizing, emulsifies the oil and also helps in cleaning. Just try using plain water and see how well that works. 90% alcohol works even better because the extra water in the 70% doesn't emulsify the oil as well. Also, to reduce the chance of corrosion, it is good to get the parts completely dry as soon as possible.
I've been cleaning electric shavers with alcohol for many years before Braun even came out with their automatic system. I'd take the cutter blade and foils off and swish them around in it, let them dry and stick back on the shaver. Never had any issues and I'm on my third Braun in thirty years.
true but my current Braun has gotten to where it won't even cut my whiskers and I just replaced both the foil and cutter block a couple of weeks ago. It's like it just can't slice through them and just vibrates on my face without actually cutting anything. It's not running on battery power either, plugged in. I think it has just lost its oomph. I've had to resort to using a 25 year old Norelco that belonged to my grandfather until I get a new foil shaver (I'm not too fond of the rotary shavers). I'll probably get the new Braun 9 series.
Like I said, I just replaced them with genuine Braun "Made in Germany" parts but it still won't shave. If I get at least 10 years use out of a shaver I'm happy. My last one I kept in my suitcase to use when traveling so it actually lasted about 15 years.
Is it just a little of this + a little of that or is there a more precise formula for the amount of alcohol and the amount of oil? I think my Braun is 20+ years old; the only identifying number I find on it is "8585." I've always used the Braun cleaner and invariably it evaporates quickly. I like your system, and I wonder if you let the razor run in the liquid for just a few seconds or longer.
Lee Thomas it’s just two ingredients, alcohol and enough drops of essential oil to allow you to tolerate it. The original gadget keeps it running in a filled pool for 10s for two rounds and that’s it.
I know this is an old comment, but I always keep the cap and stick it back on after I clean my shaver to prevent the evaporation. My 8585 Series 5 just gets taller when you replace the Clean and Renew so I just leave it up, put the Clean and Renew cartridge in there with the cap on.
I bought my Braun shaver 20 years ago, battery is dead since last year but I use it with the cable and works exactly the same. I have always used the Clean and renew system but will try your way with extra virgen olive oil, I hope it works as well! Thank you for the video!
Your video is one of the best out there! I think there was a lot of confusion over ratio of drops to alcohol. If I am reading this right, 6 drops per 500ml bottle of alcohol? Thank you in advance! Jim
Jim Fournier it’s a starting point. I don’t use oil anymore, just alcohol. I directly put a single drop on each moving part of the shaver after a few shaves.
Sorry for dusting out this video, but can I use the cleaning station, by emptying the Braun mixture and adding ours? So the system will clean as usual!
Isn't the essential oil in not needed if you use extra virgin coconut oil as shaving oil with this? Only the alcohol alone would be fine as cleaning solution inside the cleaning station? Would only alcohol inside the cleaning system damage the system or the shaver?
Use a round container and add a coffee filter to the bottom. Remove the coffee filter to strain the hair out.

You do realise this is how they make bigger profits? Same as any other company in the world..
Best method I’ve seen for substitute solution, thanks for the video.
You're welcome, your subscribe or like is greatly appreciated to support future videos.
I was wondering about this docking unit! because I'm going to order just the shaver alone and just clean myself, thanks for showing.

Very good idea and I'm going to try it.
Does it have to be alcohol with isopropyl? Its not as common here, all i can find is 70% ethanol for medicinal purposes.
Blaz Prah yes it should be fine. You can use hard spirits. It will definitely work

Greg Crabb learn to replace the battery and you have a shaver that will last forever
This shaver is 10 years old

Greg Crabb it’s normal to replace the foil and cutter. $ foil cutter vs $$$ for 9000 series

The Ordinary sales a 2% HA serum. Going to try adding that to the cleaner as HA is supposed to reduce reddness.

aracama James my shaver is 18 years old using rechargeable NiMah AA batteries. It can be done!
@@DrJamesT Hahahaha I don't know if I could do it, probably I will damage the shaver, using it with the cable works fine for me ;)
Olive oil will oxidize btw. I would use almond oil or similar. Or not. Up to you
Shouldn't you drain and clean the cartridge as best you can in order to prevent washing your system with dirty hair water??
John Antonioni yup that’s a prerequisite step

Rui Alexandre de Oliveira Campos the cleaning cartridges is difficult to clean out as it has filters
Car screen wash with a few drops of lemon oil .
why is car screen wash better than alchohol?
Great video but is it really worth the effort, I bought a 6 pack (5+1 free) for 30$ and it lasts a year, 2.50$/month is nothing
Where? 4 pack is $40 on Amazon.
I have to replace the cartridge every two weeks because I shave both my head and my beard every morning.
Hello. Are you interested in reviewing a Waist Trimmer(FREE)?
Stella TAN sorry, I'm happy with my waist size. Perhaps one lucky you tuber who have their own channel can contact you?
Perhaps our Waist Trimmer can maitain your perfect waist size. Thanks anyway
And what if u use only alcohol? I mean if you wont use oil
Haik Asatryan alcohol alone is not an issue, but make sure you lubricate your blades
How many drops or in milliliter in 500ml alchohol do you recommend?
For me 6 drops of lemon or orange oil. You don't need to add oil for it to disinfect properly. It's just to mask the smell of alcohol.
@@DrJamesT Do you only need the alcohol and lemon oil? Don't you need to add baby oil as well?

Amir Amran oil helps lubricate the shaver so it’s needed
