      Because the plate is static, there's zero reason MLB stadiums can't have a tennis-style "hawkeye" system in place. A few cameras, a fast processor, you should be able to get these challenge calls with a full 3D zone in seconds.

      @@downhillin463 the issue is that the mlb is actively trying to make games shorter so more people watch them so they'd have to replace umpires with the computer strike zone all together for it to work. Another big issue of that is that as much as umpires can suck sometimes, it'd be so mf boring watching the computer call strikes and never having any sort of variables like arguments or ejections or even the occasional missed call. A big reason why people even see clips of baseball anymore are because of coaches freaking out or players freaking out so that'd be gone and so would a lot of eyes on baseball. I really don't think people would enjoy the computer umpire as much as it seems and we'd all be asking for regular umpires again shortly after. Some of the most memorable moments of baseball history are from umpire and player/coach interactions lmao it'd be so boring without them literally nobody would watch or talk about baseball anymore.

    I've seen this at Iowa Cubs games and honestly this needs to be an MLB ASAP! Too many umpires think they're so damn great yet they get so many calls wrong and when someone challenges them they do nothing but throw that person out so this system right here will put a lot of those umpires in their place and it's about time they are put in their place

    We are taking the human out of everything. Humans aren't perfect, neither is life. We are ruining all sports with this technology. I'm sorry, I know 90% will disagree. The excitement of the announcers call of the "play at the plate" is going to be gone forever.

      God forbid we get the calls right? Did you see those Angel calls yesterday? You agree with that shit? I'm not saying I want the ABS 100% of the time. I want the umps to be better at their jobs so that the challenge system is only used for things like this.

    • @TheHENpp
      @TheHENpp 2 місяці тому +2

      I agree with you, 100 percent. The imperfection of humans is what makes the game entertaining and enthralling. Sitting around, waiting for computers to analyze whether or not a pitch nicked the zone or looking at every close play to determine safe or out will take all of the immediacy of excitement out of the game.

    • @TamaraWiens
      @TamaraWiens 2 місяці тому

      That's just silly - the strike zone aspect of pitches can be and should be automated. The human aspects of the GAME are all still there, but the "human aspects" (ie errors and subjectivity) of the rules won't be, which makes for a better contest. Particularly if this is only done on a challenge basis, even balls and strikes will mostly remain in the umps hands, very important in the most egregious (read: Angel Hernandez) cases.

    I absolutely, 100 percent do not want this in MLB. It's cute, but there is already too much electronic stuff influencing the outcome of the games. I like that Skenes knows the zone. He's gonna be a great MLB pitcher. But he'll be even greater when he's getting feedback from blue and hitting his spots as a result to record outs, as opposed to tapping his cap. And if the home plate umpire is so bad, that's when the time has come for the manager to earn his paycheck and read blue the riot act in support of his players. Make the games more entertaining; this is not that.

    • @jemiller226
      @jemiller226 2 місяці тому

      Electronic stuff doesn't influence the outcome of games. Incorrect calls by officials are the only thing outside player actions that influence the outcome of games. I cannot for the life of me understand why people are okay with games being ruined by bad calls. It's the same people who want referees to call the end of a game more leniently than the beginning. It's fucking idiotic.
