  • Finally on the water in Espoo, Finland. Practicing for the Lightning Class European and World Championships. We already warmed up and practiced our boat handling. Now we focused on accelerating.
Getting the boat up to full speed is critical on the start line and when tacking. Most boats take a long time to get fully up to speed, spending a full day on accelerations before a big event can be good. If you know how long it will take you to get up to full speed and how to accelerate quickly, you can get yourself out of bas situations. We also find it particularly helpful when deciding if we should tack in Port/Starboard situations.
