    I luv the size of these taller SUCCULENTS! Are they just older plants with the lower leaves taken off w time? What was the tall purple and what is the last tall one in green w rosetts? Just GORG! Just my style. Thanks 4 sharing...u make it look so easy!

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  3 роки тому

      Thank you for watching our video! The taller succulents are actually mature plants that we use to give height in our container gardens. The tall purple one is called "Aeonium 'Zwartkop' or "Black Beauty" and the tall one green one is also in the same family. The name is "Aeonium Green Beauty." Thanks again for watching!

    Its beautuful but the dark aeonium in your first pot is too tall. I suggest you cut it so the arrangement is balanced.

    can I ask how you keep the various plants growing in sync with each other in a pot? I find my echivera (sp?) grows way too big and way too fast as compared to other succulents(mainly haworthia type)

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  7 років тому +1

      Thank you for watching our video. Most succulents are compatible with each other in terms of light and water. We plant several succulents together to keep them contained and still allow for the plants to grow healthy. This Echeveria species will only grow to the size of the pot. If the Echeveria was planted in the ground, it will grow fast and get larger. When the plants outgrow this container (it may take up to a year or more), then we will propagate the succulents by cuttings or transplant some of the succulents into a larger pot.

    What do you do with the soil you knocked off the rootball? I know it is probably inferior so planting in new succulent mix is better but I never know what to do with the soil they plant came in. Is it useful?

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  6 років тому

      Thank you for watching our video! If the existing or original soil is still fresh, then it is fine to use the same soil when replanting into a slightly larger container. However, if you purchase succulents from a nursery or grocery store, the soil may not be best medium as the soil may contain peat moss, which retains too much moisture. Thus, it is best to change the soil and use a fresh cactus and succulent mix that drains well. Also, if the succulents have been in the same container for a year or more, then use new soil when replanting them into the ground or larger containers.

    • @kathrynhalbrook2063

      California Cactus Center My question was is that inferior soil that the plant came in from the nursery useful for anything?

    when do you water them ?

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  4 роки тому

      Thank you for watching our video! We recommend watering these succulent container gardens once a week. But only during the summer when succulents tend to dry out more, we suggest watering at least twice a week.

  • @belindabrock9964
    @belindabrock9964 6 років тому

    When do you water these? Now or later.

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  6 років тому

      Thank you for watching our video! We can water these succulent container gardens immediately after planting them. Since all the succulents are rooted, it is fine to water them and allow the soil to settle in the container.

    what plants you use ?

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  7 років тому +2

      For the main plants we used Aeonium 'Cyclops', Kalanchoe luciae "Paddle Plant," and Aeonium urbicum. The cascading succulent is Senecio jacobsenii ("Trailing Jade"). The main Echeverias that we planted are: Echeveria hybrid and Echeveria perle von nurnberg. The other succulents that surround these plants were mainly Crassulas, Sedums, and other Graptopetalums. They are other plants that we used such as Tradescantia pallida (“Purple Heart” “Wandering Jew”) and Aloe aka Lizard Lips. Thanks for watching our video!

    Nice plants and arrangements. I have a question about the music people select... Can you pick several to play when you have a long video that 5 note music really starts to annoy me especially when someone like you is so softspoken, your next video just started and no music, much better.

    • @CaliforniaCactusCenter
      @CaliforniaCactusCenter  7 років тому +1

      I totally agree... I was trying to get the video done and I used music plugin system I don't usually use. Next time I'll stick to the library music.
