I really liked Mark as a character-a genuinely good guy who unfortunately had rotten luck. Todd Carty played him so well.

A powerful performance from James Alexandrou as Martin. I was so gutted when Mark got killed off, one of my favourite characters played by the brilliant Todd Carty.
Loved Eastenders back then!
It's amazing to see just how many of the actors in this scene have either died in real life/or have moved on in the soap/been written out.

There are no soaps that can hold a candle to East Enders. Each character that has come and gone through Albert Square has left a memorable and lasting impression.

mark fowler was just an older Tucker Jenkins, wise cracking, self righteous leather jacket wearing motorbike fanatic.
He played the same character from 1978 through to him being killed off in Eastenders.
Todd left nice guy Mark behind and went to The Bill and turned bad guy. Such a good actor.
Almost a carbon copy of when Mark giving a speech about his dad Arthur. Then Martin does same for Mark in same church

+Alex Robinson Because dr legg was a doctor on the square for years and the fowlers/Beales knew him for all those years and I think dr legg had a lot of respect for mark as he was a fowler and mark was well loved by everyone so I think he was there for them reasons

Ruth should have returned for Mark’s funeral, she was Mark’s true love and they would’ve stayed together had they been able to have kids. Also why did Maggie Flaherty not go to Pauline Fowler’s funeral, she was her sister after all.

Also, One Life To Live that debuted in1968 will go off the air in 2012 and All My Children 1970 2011 will go off the air in September 2011.

This shows how much it was a mistake to recast Martin, if the actor didn't want to return than they should not of brought him back.

Danielle Sobelman fortunately the new Martin can act, so I don't mind him at all. I do miss the old one too. The new Michelle on the other hand, I still don't like her. Only because Susan Tully's a tough act to follow.

something i don't get about funerals, why do they get people to sing??? They're mourning the loss of a relative, they aren't really gonna be interested in singing
For a long time I was trying to figure out what the US Soap Opera Guiding Light reminded me of and now I understand. Their filming is alot like Eastenders, Emmerdale and even Corrie. Sadly enough it's being cancelled on Sept 19. 2009.
He left in 2003 and died in 2004.
Was played by David Scarboro (1985-1988) but the actor killed himself and Mark was written out of the series.
Todd Carty took over as Mark in 1990 and stayed there for 13 years.

@laminage wow...I genuinely had no idea that American soaps such as 'As The World Turns' were that old, as old as my dad! I thought they were relatively new. But I find it quite wierd that I who live in Egland don't watch any English soaps and you seem quite up to date with them all. Though, I do like Home and Away and Neighbours.
I never expected Mark to die until early 2003 when he visited his clinic.
EastEnders is now rather different without the Fowlers.
Bearing in mind, there are very few Fowlers still alive (as far as I know), but are no longer residing in the Square; Michelle & Vicki in Florida and Martin somewhere in the North I think.

@stupidintellect90 The three soaps I mentioned are very close to Canadians Hearts especially Corrie. This is because many of the Older Folks who watch the show have ties to England whose ancestors immigrated to Canada from England. In fact, when Corrie isn't on the air, the fans call the TV Stations demanding to know why. Also, in the US, the viewing public for Soaps most notably Women have dwindled. They work, and they like Talks Shows and Reality Shows that's why the ratings went down.
The beales kind of count as fowlers, but no sonia doesn't count as when she came back briefly in 2011 she said her and martin split up, so she counts as a jackson, still, i can't see any of them returning

@matthieus2 No, it was played for him when he left to see the world, and also when he found out his medication was failing and Sharon stopped him from commiting suicide in the Square gardens

@stupidintellect90 Yeah but The Brits are so lucky because "You're Soaps" or many of them are still on the Air. Coronation St., Eastenders, Emmerdale that are shown on Canadian TV although we are still a couple of years behind. Corrie One Year. Sadly enough, these past three years Two Long Running Soaps got cancelled. Guiding Light (Debuting on Radio in 1937, and going to TV in 1952) and got cancelled in 2009. As The World Turns 1956-2010.

There's still Vicki, mark fowler jr(Michelle's son) and martin's two daughters i believe bex is the name of one of them and arther fowler jr isnt martin's biological son!

@laminage You think Eastenders is good? I admit it's better then 'days of our lives' and 'the young and the restless' if that's what you're talking about but Eastenders isn't the best thing on British tele. It's unrealistic, there's like 2 deaths each year, just Albert Square that is, very tedious-wanting-to-be-dramatic storylines and pretty bad acting from most of its actors.
