Watching tonight, I realized that my dad never spoke of the traditions of an English Christmas. He fell into step with those my mother's family shared. There was no twelve days of Christmas celebrated. There was a movie called FANNY AND ALEXANDER which he watched on TV one night. He looked at me and said he liked it because it reminded him of the Christmases of his childhood. I know he had an unhappy childhood but the portion of the movie and the celebrating of Christmas brought a smile to his face. And that was as much as he ever shared of Christmas in England. You think of all kinds of questions to ask when they have passed on when it is too late. Thank you for your 12th night celebration. I appreciate it.

You have brought the pageantry and beauty of "Twelfth Night" celebration beautifully alive. Mesmerizing, informative and utterly delightful video. Your run through of productions of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" was pure delight. I thought I had seen all available productions. I hadn't. You've given me three new productions to look forward too. Imogen Stubbs was so compelling a viola she has entered my dreams but then so has Felicity Kendal. Maybe my life story is he was born, fell permanently in love with Shakespeare's Viola and anyone who acted her and that everything else was window dressing. Absolutely splendid video!

I've seen Twelfth Night onstage and on TV several times over the years. But the production that I found to be "best" all-round was the Globe's version with Mark Rylance as Olivia and Stephen Fry as Malvolio. I saw their production in New York. Otherwise, the very first performance of Twelfth Night I experienced was from a 3-LP box set I got from the library. It had Siobhan McKenna as Viola , Vanessa Redgrave as Olivia and Paul Scofield as Malvolio (he was fantastic). They each have such distinctive voices that you can easily imagine the character before you.

Thanks, we've not seen the Rylance/Fry one! Apparently Hallmark made a TV movie in 1957.

I saw it performed in my grammar school by our local troupe. The Key Perspectives, when I was in my mid teens. This was where I first learned that Shakespeare is best experienced in performance. I loved it. I also really fancied the leading lady, Carol Leader, probably best known for her TV appearances on Play School.

My favorite Twelfth Night movie has Ben Kingsley in it.

Brilliant. Absolutely loved this. I did a course in folklore last year and the tutor was not nearly as engaging as you 😊 think I’d better get off and find Twelfth Night

Happy Twelfth Night, Roy and Dr. Jennie! We always took our decorations down on the 6th. I don’t want any fairies making mischief! Happy New Year!

    Those stockings are 👌🏻!
I'm from Austria and we don't have that here, but as long as I can remember everybody took their Christmas tree down by the sixth of January. Never heard of someone like Old Nick, though. I guess he doesn't come down so far.

Old Nick is basically the Devil, I think the idea is to avoid saying his actual name 🤔

@@royreadsanything I was rooting for you, but for me, a mince pie really needs a number of support foods ( or slightly different homemade crusts.)
Lovely video- have a splendid New Year.

My decorations are already down. How do I get that changeling exchange for my kid? I can go back into the attic...
I love Twelfth Night and appreciate your commitment to the stockings.

I think the exchange window has passed but maybe Easter will bring a similar opportunity
