This was a scary story which shocked me when I was ten 31 years ago but spooky too and grisly story as it’s night of the living dead in WWII and has an ec comics feel
If you've read "The Making of Heavy Metal" then you probably have a slightly greater regard for this than most people. Taking the work of several artists and writers styles and combing them into an anthology animated film. That is a huge ask. When I saw this movie, I wasn't impressed so much with the animation, but after reading the book, I gained a lot of respect for this film.
At least give it, fritz the cat, wizards, watership down and American pop the props for opening the doors to adult animation like The Simpsons, Spawn tas, MTV animation shows and more even bringing Japanese imports like Akira and Ninja scroll to the USA all proving animation wasn’t just a kids medium
Out of the entire movie, the "B17" segment freaked me out the most when I saw it in-theaters back in 1981. I was 10 when my parents took me to see it. It was a double feature with the movie "Dragon Slayer" which was rated-PG.
You saw it at ten? I saw it on Cinemax when I was ten 31 years ago with other adult animation movies like hey good Lookin, American pop and vampire hunter d and been faves. I bet it was your first time seeing nudity in animation as a kid. It was mine even with hey good looking and vampire hunter d. And there was graphic violence and I did saw graphic violence in adult animation before 92 like watership down, wizards, fire and ice,, plague dogs and Simpsons itchy and scratchy to aeon flux shorts on liquid television. But me seeing nudity in animation movies like this, fantastic planet, hey good Lookin and vampire hunter d was nothing like it I ever saw as a kid. Lol. It’s no different than when I was five years old I watched creepshow, David Cronenberg’s the fly, elm street 1 to 2, Night of the creeps, alien, aliens, terminator, Cobra etc on hbo with my family even saw Reanimator, return of the living dead and more on hbo with my big brothers. Even at five I saw creepshow 2, Predator, Robocop, Hellraiser, near dark, lost boys, planes trains and automobiles and running man in theaters with my family even elm street 3 on video with them. Hell, I even saw elm street 4 to 7, the blob remake, the fly 2, total recall (saw it on my eighth birthday), leviathan, Terminator 2 ( I was nine), army of darkness (I was 11), bram stokers Dracula, above the law, misery, the crow, Predator 2, die hard 1 and 2 and more in theaters at 6 to 12. Hell, I even went to see pulp fiction when I was 12
these old animated clips terrify me more then anything new made, recurring nightmares when i was a kid watching this along with the goblins from the Hobbit
I saw it in the early nineties on Cinemax at ten with other cool adult animation movies like hey good Lookin, American pop and vampire hunter d and been faves of mine since
Lol, I don't know how old you are, but if you have never seen this movie, strap in and hold on. DO NOT WATCH WITH KIDS AROUND! and if you are wondering, 52
Beautiful work 🖤 special mention goes to the plane, of course, but also the zombie coming out of the cargo room. He looks like he's slowly getting out of bed
I don't care if TIM MILLER made TERMINATOR DARK FATE He was the director, NOT the writer That killing decision was James Cameron's idea Miller deserves another chance because he's still got a lot to offer He gave us DEADPOOL and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Plus, have anyone seen LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS?
Such an amazing classic, and made in 1981 man, I don't want to detract from the awesomeness of this one by saying I would love to see what this kind of movie would look like made in 2022!!!.....
Super. There is a video out there where someone put this video with the song Heavy Metal, (Takin' a ride.) by Don Felder, and it really changes the scene. 💙 T.E.N.
🥱😴😴 slowed the movie down dramatically. Scary for whom?? 8 year olds? And Heavy Metal? Soundtrack might as well have had Back street Boys. Only heavy metal I remember was " the mob rules" but great animación. Loved this movie, age 13.
As you can see there was a jet engine there which seems to us that we are in the pacific theather and not histiticcly accurate because that was an f9f panther
It's weird that the guy who gets killed in the ball turret didn't seem the least bit suspicious as to what happened to the bodies of the waist gunners as he knew they were dead and yet they disappeared when he was on his way back to the cockpit I mean if I was onboard a B-17 and I saw the bodies of my crewmates missing I'd be a little concerned.
"You turn around/go back into the room, but to your surprise, the body is missing." is definitely one of the best and most classic ways of putting your players on edge in a tabletop horror game. :) They don't know if it's because the monster grabbed the body when they weren't looking, their dead friend is now a zombie/monster, or something else, but one thing's for sure... They're not alone in here...
Love the song Love the movie wish I had the movie the green glowing ball it's confusing and I haven't seen the 2000 movie The heavy metal movie 2000 HOPING THEY WOULD PUT IT ON MY PHONE FOR FREE I GET FREE MOVIES WITH ADS OKAY GOD BLESS EVERYBODY 🙏😇
Once the muscle tissue has deteriorated past a certain point, it becomes impossible to move the skeletal structure. Most zombies don't even make sense.
I would usually agree with you. Virus zombies that reach that state don't make sense but I think these are more of the old school evil spirit zombies. If the flesh rots off, they will still move as skeletons.
@@TrentCantrell We are spirits possessing our bodies and even while still alive we cannot move a limb if the muscle tissue is damaged enough. I know I'm straight up killing the Zombie lore here, but even spirit, whether good or evil, cannot move an inanimate object which isn't designed to move. For example, a spirit can possess a machine which has gears and pullies and other mechanical parts which enable movement and cause it to move via spiritual energy instead of electricity, because the machine is a moving and functioning thing even without being possessed by a spirit. However, if that machine's mechanical parts which enable movement are damaged to the point that the machine cannot actually function and move, then the spirit will not be able to make it move. The spirit can't repair the machine lol. The spirit would need to possess a human with a functioning body and used the human's body to repair the machine. Spirits use their energy to power and move objects which are already capable of movement on their own. To bring it home, a spirit cannot possess a rock and cause it to fly around the room, because the rock is incapable of movement independently. The spirit might be able to cause the rock to move if it has some electromagnetic power which could cause the rock to levitate, but then the rock would have to have magnetic metals inside of it for that to work. Science can be used to explain spirits and their ability and what they can and cannot do.
This scene still haunts me, especially where He lands on the island full of these revenants and has nowhere to escape from
Eh, he could have escaped. Just pick up the Pack-a-Punch perk and find the Mystery Box.
Really
He could aim for the head.
I wish there was more WW2 Zombies medium. Like Soviet or Japanese Zombies as well. If only the entire movie was like this.
You may like Dead Snow
Overlord 2018
Chinese soldiers vs Japanese and manchukuo zombies
Calm down Satan.
Absolute classic sequence of animation.
But, it doesn’t sound as scary as the original.
They added too many sound effects, lessening the growls and such that actually made it scary.
Has that ec comics feel
Everyone, go look up the longer version where the intro has badass metal playing with the soldiers shooting
This was a scary story which shocked me when I was ten 31 years ago but spooky too and grisly story as it’s night of the living dead in WWII and has an ec comics feel

Have anyone seen "Love, Death and Robots"?
It's a re-imagining of Heavy Metal
And it's amazing
I haven’t
Very good Netflix series
yes of course
Haven’t heard of it.
I have not yet
Still a strange movie with an unusual plot, but no question it's animation and it's syfy and horror elements are memorable.
Nothing strange and unusual about it, the premise is awesome
It’s a cult film

But for me, it's an animation that's suitable for watching during the Halloween season Because I'm not afraid of ghosts 😁😁😎
Classic. Absolute classic.
This whole movie is badass. The details and artistry freaking phenomenal
Ec comics feel this story has
I need to watch this sometime
I am happy that my vague confused scared memories of this when I was 5 are in fact real and I can look at it when I’m 26
I never heard this movie, it looks perfect and i'm gonna watch it for sure 🙌🔥
It’s a collection of animation styles and studios in a single movie, so, it’s not a complete storyline.
Lol, I don't know how old you are, but if you have never seen this movie, strap in and hold on. DO NOT WATCH WITH KIDS AROUND! and if you are wondering, 52
@@tileman17 i actually agree. Make sure your ready for some f#$ked up stuff lol

Really amazing 👍🏻💕👍🏻
Hmmm. The color of the zombies' eyes are the same color as the auto-pilot "on" light. Kinda makes ya think 🤔 . . .
Love this movie and also Fire and Ice!
This was one of my favorite moments from this film.
Love this movie 😎
That man could try to go down fighting.
This part always reminded me of Combat 84. Or the combat 84 album art reminded me of this.
Man, i need a call of duty zombie with this story😍
Amazing
This is so good for 1981
Never forget this part when i was a little kid 🤩
Written by Dan O'Bannon....this was the original incarnation of his Alien script.
This scene reminds me the same terror as Dead Space Downfall.
This would be a Perfect Creepshow Story.
I wonder if the implication is this was some sort of Bermuda Triangle affair. Anything flying over that island ends up the same way.
Wow
Before Call of Duty Zombies there was this…
Lots of folks don’t quite understand just how complicated it was to animate this back then.
All hand drawn & rotoscope. NO CGI.
@@napoleonsolo5929 they also had to do serious math to get certain parts to look almost 3D, it wasn’t just rotoscoping to many animators horror lol
Beautiful work 🖤 special mention goes to the plane, of course, but also the zombie coming out of the cargo room. He looks like he's slowly getting out of bed
Spliced film reels and how it’s done was frustrating.
It was meant to look like an ec comics story brought to life
that was great animation and scary scene
This feels like a Ralph Bashki movie.
But to my suprise he was not involved in it at all
I don't care if TIM MILLER made TERMINATOR DARK FATE
He was the director, NOT the writer
That killing decision was James Cameron's idea
Miller deserves another chance because he's still got a lot to offer
He gave us DEADPOOL and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
Plus, have anyone seen LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS?
I was disappointed to find out that the remake doesn't have the screaming sounds it has in the original!!!
I dare Hollywood to reboot Heavy Metal because it’s not going to happen.
now thats nacht der untoten for ya
Four years before Dan O'Bannon would do Return Of The Living Dead, he was the first to give us zombies on a plane (P.S. World War Z can suck it).
Such an amazing classic, and made in 1981 man, I don't want to detract from the awesomeness of this one by saying I would love to see what this kind of movie would look like made in 2022!!!.....
They would CGI it to death and lose all its effectiveness
I don't get scared easily but this time ....
Good One
😊good👍

No one did that. That's how it was originally released.
My favorite part of the movie, by far!
Call of Dudy "Capitalist Zombis"
🥱😴😴 slowed the movie down dramatically. Scary for whom?? 8 year olds? And Heavy Metal? Soundtrack might as well have had Back street Boys. Only heavy metal I remember was " the mob rules" but great animación. Loved this movie, age 13.
Thundercats bad guy metamorphosis was scarier than this!
This would give everyone nightmares when they watch this scene
Fantastic Photography 📸
It's real hell. And he shouldn't have gone in😰
Yeah the opening was way better for this with the music and fire fight.
As you can see there was a jet engine there which seems to us that we are in the pacific theather and not histiticcly accurate because that was an f9f panther
He's gonna be just fine!
