The Arturia PolyBrute is a 61-key, 6-voice, VCO-based polyphonic analog synthesizer with 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs, 3 envelopes, 3 LFOs, matrix panel, sequencer, ribbon controller & morphee, effects, motion recording and much more.
The Arturia PolyBrute's 2 oscillators each have sawtooth, triangle and square wave which can be mixed and blended according to taste. Additional oscillator features include metalizer (wavefolding), cross-modulation (FM), oscillator sync, tuning, pulse width control and glide.
The Arturia PolyBrute has filter FM via osc2 & noise to VCF. The ladder filter and Steiner-Parker filter each have cutoff, resonance, VCF envelope amount and level control and can be routed in series or parallel. VCF1 (Steiner-Parker) has Brute Factor (filter feedback) and multi-mode filter (LP/HP/BP), while VCF2 (Ladder) has distortion. A master knob and key tracking allows you to adjust cutoff for both filters simultaneously.
There are 3 envelopes (VCF/VCA/MOD) on the Arturia PolyBrute. The VCF and MOD envelopes can be looped and used as additional LFOs. VCF/VCA envelopes have velocity control and MOD envelope has delay. There are 3 LFOs which can be sync'd to clock -- LFO1 & 2 have seven waveshapes + mono or polyphonic modes. LFO 3 has curve & symmetry waveshape controls and retrig, single shot and xLFO1 modes.
The Arturia PolyBrute's matrix panel provides 768 presets, modulations (32-slot mod matrix), 64-step step or real-time polyphonic sequencer editing, and morphing utilities. There are numerous digital effects including choruses/modulation, delays and reverbs and these can be routed in insert or send mode, or bypassed. It also has adjustable stereo width and motion recorder for creating custom looping or single shot envelope shapes.
There is also a comprehensive sequencer and arpeggiator control section on the PolyBrute for adjusting step length, gate, swing, metronome, time divisions, play modes, rate and more. In addition the PolyBrute let's you select from poly, unison and mono modes, as well as single, layered, or split timbrality modes.
A key feature of the PolyBrute is the sound morphing capability between an A and B layer within a single patch. Additional expression control is possible via the Morphee controller (X/Y/Z axis control), ribbon controller, mod and pitch wheels, aftertouch and expression pedal capabilities.
The Arturia PolyBrute is a well-built instrument with a modern and futuristic analog sound. It allows for very deep sound design and has amazing expression capabilities. If you're looking for a powerful analog synth with near limitless possibilities, be sure to try the Arturia PolyBrute.

The Polybrute is this generation's CS-80 and at a price that's not out of reach. Sounds amazing, has vintage grit with an original modern flavor. Aturia nailed it with this already epic synth.
I think that honor can go to the UDO super Gemini now.
I bought one of these a few weeks ago. It's a masterwork. I keep waiting for it to dump me because I'm not good enough for it.
Congrats and enjoy it. It's a very deep synth and takes time to understand, so be patient!
lol..the best comment of all the ones that I've read.. 😁👏
Are you still together?
@@anthonyman8008 inexplicably, yes. Maybe it needs a green card or something.

Great video! I'm that Hi-Fi Humanoid person that posts on the polybrute stuff! Another thing I really love is to apply the Metalizer(hold select and click Metalizer) to all waveforms and mod that with the Z exp!
Hey Hi Fi Humanoid, good to see you here! Great tip about the metalizer - it can be applied to more than just triangle! :) Awesome wavefolding tool.
Excellent review and demo. Thanks!
No problem. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Great Polybrute presentation, thank you!
Thanks for the comment and watching!
Enfin une superbe démo, merci !
Merci beaucoup Cyril!
A monster of synths, nice demonstration! :-D
Thanks! It is a modulation and expression monster. :)
Thanks again synth4ever. Wow😲 I just finished watching the video. This is the most comprehensive demo/review on the PolyBrute I’ve seen. I’ve watched dozens and in many languages too. The PolyBrute has captured worldwide attention and it’s definitely a very deep and amazing instrument. I’m still discovering new things about it and things I didn’t know it could do until I watched your video. Today, you have earned a new subscriber! 👍 Looking forward to more videos. Awesome presentation by the way! Well done 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it! I tried to cover most features but it's such a deep synth this could've easily gone on for another hour or two. :) Thank you for subscribing and look forward to sharing more in the future.
Man you always sell me, best review I've scene, this is next on my list now!!!!!
Thanks Tony, glad you liked the review! The Polybrute is super capable so if you are looking for an expressive and deep sound design analog synth, it would be a great choice.
Beautiful synth, beautiful video, subscribed and saving up.
Thank you!
Fantastic demonstration! What a flexible, tweekable synth. Thanks for taking the time to show this incredible instrument! 🎹 🎶 😎
Thanks a lot! PolyBrute is incredibly deep and and very powerful. :)
The absolute best demo of this synth period, so much so you've swayed my decision to buy one. 👍🎶👍
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the review. If you'd like to support me via your purchase, pls consider using one of the affiliate links in video description to buy. I truly appreciate it! :)
Great review !
Thank you
Thank you for watching!
This is such a great overview. I also think it gives a much better idea of the sound than most of the popular videos I've come across. Too many of them go wild on the FX and as a result it's hard to tell what the actual core tone of the synth is.
Thanks. I tried to cover all the major sections to give a flavor of capabilities and basic sound design features.
Absolutely lovely synth.... one day I’ll get one! 👍☀️
Agreed, hopefully sooner rather than later!
Awesome ...I enjoyed watch this video
Thanks for watching Lena!
What a great synthesizer Arturia has made !
Yes, definitely -- very inspiring, expressive and forward thinking!
smart review by a synth master, thanks
Thanks much
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. 🎹👍
Thanks for watching!
Excellent overview and demo of the Polybrute. That last patch you played at the very end of this video kinda reminds me of an Oberheim OB-series synth. I had my eye on the OB-X8. However, I'm thinking very similar sounds can also be achieved with the Polybrute, considering how deep and flexible it is.
OBX8 is certainly magical for vintage OB sounds, pads and the lovely OB character. IMO Polybrute is a modern take on analog and can go places other analog synths can't due to its feature-set. Depends what your needs are for sound design but you can't go wrong with either.
Arturia hit a home run with this ☝🏽
This is a very instructive demo showing a more in depth view of the Polybrute. It is very deep and has all the features I am looking for on a polyphonic synth. I just wish I heard it making more of the types of sounds I tend to like. I have never heard it give me those Dave Smith Sequential or Oberheim types of sounds or Moog type sounds, it seems to be it's own universe.
I'm sure it can do some of those sounds if programmed to, have you checked out other demos/custom patches? I only showed off some presets here as the main focus was the overview/review. That said this synth is VERY deep and can take you in a variety of directions with analog synthesis, especially with the mod matrix capabilities.
Here's some more "classic" analog patches from another sound designer:

I'm getting one!!!
Congrats!
Frankly I watch tutorial and I watch loupop, and I must tell you that your presentations are perfectly calibrated there is everything you need to know with ease of expression clear in time, it's you I understood everything from start to finish, loupop and very good but it goes too fast, and your composition, different modes and perfect, we all understand from the simplest to the most complicated Thank you, I subscribe to you my Polybrute arrives tomorrow and I am waiting for L 'osmosis impatiently, I would not inquire about your appointment for osmosis Thank you and Bravo
Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it! In this video my goal was to give an overview of the synth from simple sound creation to more complex, and give viewers an overview of building a patch and then sequencing/adding effects etc.
Congrats on acquiring your PolyBrute and Osmosis, they are fantastic. I also enjoy Loopop's videos and he is amazing at what he does. :) Cheers!
Great video. How are you enjoying the new firmware update with it's additional features?
Haven't installed yet... looking forward to trying it out when I get a chance.
7:50 The SP filter has also a notch mode at ca. 9 o‘clock.
Cool, thanks for the tip!
Hi there - great review. I have recently purchased a noir version. Is it possible to share some of your presets?
Congrats on your Polybrute! Most of the sounds in this demo are presets that come with the synth.
Hi mate, I'm struggling on deciding to get the polybrute or the iridium keyboard version.
I'm looking for a synth thats primarily just for ambiant and evolving atmospheric sound and effects.
Out of those 2 which would you suggest yourself?
For what you describe, I'd go for the Iridium. It can do so much, and also has more voices.
I bought the Super6 and still wonder if I made the right choice. I've heard people say the basic 'sound' of the polybrute and its filter just aren't as pleasing as the Super 6 or Prophet 5/6/OB6. I've yet to have a chance to play one at any of my local music stores (none of them have it). Curious on your thoughts about that, because on paper this should be my dream synth (61 keys, 2 filters, VCO, ribbon, morphe, etc.)
The Super 6 is a fantastic digital/analog hybrid, but it focuses on different aspects of performance/interface/experience and sound (hybrid) vs pure analog/matrix panel/expression of the PolyBrute. It also depends how you prefer to work (no screen vs matrix/screen) and what features you want. I own both synths and they serve different purposes but love them both equally. That said, if you are looking for more functionality beyond the Super 6 in terms of programming/features, the PolyBrute certainly has a lot to offer in that regard. Ultimately depends what type of sound and features/workflow you prefer.
I meant to ask you. Does the Polybrute incorporate channel aftertouch? I don't imagine it has independent poly aftertouch? Couldn't find the specs about this. Man, what a great flagship synth this is! 🎹 🎶 😎
I'm not synth4ever, but I can tell you that its keybed has channel aftertouch, and the synth will respond to poly AT over MIDI.
@@Trottelheimer That's what I thought, but wasn't sure, thanks for clarification! 🎹🎶 😎
Hello friend....new sub here and in a bit of panic mode as I may have made an impulse purchase today because I bought a Polybrute on Reverb a few hours ago. I am an old disabled dude who is turning 60 next month and having an old life crisis. I stopped playing guitar 4 years ago and a few ago weeks and have wired up my recording studio that has been in storage for over 7 years lst week and about to start making music again. This is a miracle because I listed my gear for sale on FB 3 months ago and how this old fart has a severe case of GAS. I have not bought a new synth in 7 years and just music and want to buy myself a birthday present. I am into the most most psychedelic weird sounding music possible. Think of Infected Mushroom or even Sphongle. I am a psychedelic guitarist but dig synths and purchased a Moog sub 37 & Dave Smith (RIP) Prophet 6 seven years ago but never had a chance to use gear due to health issues. Also have 7 MoogerFooger pedals never used I bought for guitar but now realize producers runs synths through them all the time. So I got some rad gear and wanted something cool for a birthday present and making it to age 60 to add to the sound of the synths I own and hoping this synth was right choice. I was close to buying a used Access Virus T12 Polar. I also was looking at the Hydrasynth deluxe or a Waldorf Iridium. So thanks for any advice about adding this synth or choosing a different synth as I have 24 hours to change my mind. It's the morph feature that sold me and quite honestly, I thought I was buying a pure digital synth. I was thinking because I have the Prophet 6 maybe a digital piece of gear would be better fit. Peace & good vibes.
Hey there, if you want morphing in an anlog synth and hands-on exposed modulation matrix, nothing beats the Polybrute. However if you want more crazy soundscape type of stuff, the Iridium or Hydrasynth can get into some very weird territory. The Polybrute is a very powerful analog synth and extremely flexible, just depends on the type of workflow you prefer. There are lots of used synths on the 2nd hand market that are digital which you can pick up cheap down the road if you decide to keep it.
More voices, a longer ribbon controller, call it the Polybrute X and you really do have the synth to put the ghosts of the CS80 and JP8 to rest! I owned a Jupiter 8 and I've been waiting 40 years to buy something that will replace that wonderful machine. Maybe the Hydrasynth Deluxe or maybe this one. With the extra voices I think it's definitely the Polybrute.
Both? 🤔
Polybrute X would be cool... and a Polyfreak!
19:50 The Residents!
In real time sequence can you layer things over top of the played back sequence without having to add it to that sequence?
Yes, you can jam on top of a sequence without having to record it.
Does this surpass what the Korg Boutique keyboards like the OPSix, Wavestate, Modwave, MinilogueXD, etc can do? I want a poly synth that can have many voices to create layers and my own sounds and be able to blend them into some cohesive music or ambient. I also like playability, and this keyed has more keys. What are your thoughts on this and also comparing to something like a Sledge, or Hydrasynth (the bigger model)? Also, how does this compare to the Matrix Brute?
Depends what you mean by surpass. This is 6 voice analog synth, so limited in polyphony. Wavestate, Opsix, Modwave are digital but more voices. Polybrute is advanced analog synthesis with lots of modulation capabilities. If you don't care about analog and need lots of voices/modulation, Hydrasynth Deluxe or Novation Summit are good options.
Matrixbrute by comparison is a mono-synth, not a polysynth, doesn't have same effects or morphing capability as Polybrute. It does have more CV connections if important to you. Cheers
Those korgs don’t have 5 octaves and are made of flimsy plastic.
In terms of specifications it is a very good synthesizer, but its sound lags far behind the Matrixbrute unfortunately. The sound is simply boring. But I'm glad there's another polysynth on the market.
And then firmware 2.0 came out and changed a whole lot of stuff - follow-up coming?
Possibly, but there are already a number of videos about it from others. Haven't had time to look at it yet.
Have you had a look at Yamaha's Reface series?
Hey there, no I haven't gotten my hands on the Yamaha Reface series. Interesting synths though!
@@synth4ever They are quite easy to obtain. The Reface CS sells for around £300. It would be cool to compare the Reface CS to the actual CS-80.
@@UNIX32 Yea it would be nice to do so, but I don't have CS-80. ;)
Yamaha reface CP is hands down the best EP sounds you can get, very unique and portable. I have also used an 88 key MIDI controller with reface and that opens everything up. All the reface are great, battery portable. I dont think the reface CS sounds like a CS 80 unfortunately. No one has recreated that for some strange reason. The ME-80 plug-in is a good facsimile.
Etcetera not excetera

😂😂😂
Nice demo 😊
I would actually pay money for a copy of this video - without your commentary. No offense. Your narration is perfectly fine. The demo itself as a separate entity has great value, in its range of expression, even just mathematically... please inform.
I didn’t even make it past the half way mark on this video, I actually paused it to buy one 🤌. This demo should be on their website
Thanks much! Maybe you can petition Arturia to include it on their site? :)
sent a tweet, hopefully they notice!
