I have the feeling that Fazil literally sees the musical notes flying around him.

to be fair, I genuinely think every art form has something like that. Because everything is frequency at the end, sound has form/shape and colors, but also a sculpture has sound. Only we can't sense it, it's just hidden. But genius level artists can. Like him. Like Mozart, Leonardo, etc.

To all who says he’s not playing it right.. OH MY GOD you are part of the reason why classical music seems so narrow minded nowadays.
It’s one of his interpretation of this piece, sure it might surprise you and not be your favorite but never say that it’s not RIGHT 🤦🏻‍♂️
The way theses pieces have been played changed drastically throughout the years !
You should check out Debussy playing the piece himself, you’ll be surprised by the rythm choices.

Amen. For example….the way that some conductors pace Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #2, the Adagio movement, drives me bonkers. When the pacing is so even and unwavering and feels too fast, it just loses so much of the emotional power it has….but you know who actually plays it like that?….Rachmaninoff! But that doesn’t change that I strongly prefer the variation of pacing and the ebb and flow that the Ormandy’s and Ashkenazy’s and Previn’s give it. It just is a matter of interpretation. It’s like shades of a color. There just can’t be a version that’s universally ‘better’. Art and its beauty are for the eyes and ears of the beholder.
