Suzuka is a force of nature!
They do their own choreography and are involved in songwriting. They are totally different from other girl groups. I like watching them because they always look like they are having fun.
"Atarashii Gakko no Leaders" basically translates to "New School Leaders". This is reflected in the school uniforms they wear, along with the armbands, which are often used in Japan to signify being part of a team or group - in this case being more of a reference to them being part of the Student Council, so to speak.
They're a J-Pop group that's been getting really popular recently both in Japan and internationally.
I highly recommend watching their collab with Captain Disillusion where he makes a few short music videos with them!

Only Atarashii Gakko could get me to listen to jazz fusion jpop. They are so much fun.
Check out their first full album maenarawanai. Their latest releases have covered a lot of genres but that whole album is very jazz flavoured due to their collaboration. Very underrated album.
They are the exact depiction of singers who don’t just sing because they can and want money they act like they really really just love and adore singing and are really happy to sing together their energy just screams the fact that they’re there because they absolutely love what they’re doing it’s beautiful 😭

For real, I've discovered so many great japanese musicians there, it's a great cultural bridge.
Especially for the new generation its a great lesson of culture :D
Japan is undoubtedly the prime source for WTF bands, in the best way possible. Atarashii Gakko has been around for ages, however they only gotten very popular recently, and it's kinda obvious why. Their name "Atarashii Gakko no Leaders" (which they shortened to Atarashii Gakko recently) means "The New School Leaders", which means "new school" in music and also in their gimmick where they dress in school uniform with the Student Council armbands.
They are kinda the anti-JPOP group, they've been friends since forever, they are high energy, they break conventions, they act weird and goofy while also producing incredible songs both musically and in composition. It's one of those groups that you can never know what you're gonna get next, the only thing you know it's gonna be awesome. You should check out some of their other songs, like Freaks, Pineapple Kryptonite, and so on.
If you want more bands like this, I highly suggest "Maximum the Hormone", also a four-piece band who've been around a long time. They produce a lot heavier music, they mix and match genres, switch up tempo and even genres mid-song, and basically every single one of their songs has it's own story behind it. They are incredibly high-energy, funny, weird and also not afraid to break conventions. Band Maid is also very popular right now, an all-girl metal band (their drummer has been inspired to become a drummer by Nao from Maximum the Hormone).
Nao also inspired Tamu of Nemophila. There is even a video!!!
I got to see them live in Los Angeles at the Roxxy last year. It was a small venue and it was the greatest concert I've ever been to in my life. I'm so happy I got to see them before they BLOW UP

Atarashii Gakko! (New School!) aka Atarashii Gakkou no Leaders, was formed in 2015. Made their debut in Japan in 2017 under Victor Entertainment with the single Dokubana. And then made their worldwide debut in 2021 Under 88rising with the single Nainainai. They have been around long ^^
the armbands mark them out as class leaders, so as a brit think school prefects, if you had them at school.

They've got a lot of good songs to check out, Pineapple Kryptonite, Nainainai, Freaks, Hanako, Woo Go!, Koi Geba, and more. They have a very jazzy experimental sound. They also have really entertaining dance practice videos. Their videos are also a bit split between their main channel and 88Rising's channel.
You finally got around to watching them! Next to Babymetal I think they are best thing coming out of Japan, music wise. They are getting so big lately. I really like the music videos for Woo Go!, Night before the Exam (one take version), and well most of their videos really.

OK love AG which is weird because I usually stay in metal. Their songs are fun and have real meanings in them. Last year in an interview in the USA Suzuka was asked a question as to what song should people start with in exploring AG. She said Koi Geba, from the group themselves Koi Geba is the best starting point. Others will push out their favorites but that is THE best starting point. The song is about a serious topic, student/teacher sexual affairs. It is brilliant as is Otona Blue. Otuna Blue is more then just cheeky. It is about the feelings a young girl gets as she sexually matures physically but still is immature emotionally. The music video for the song does a good job of portraying the meaning.

I'm glad you enjoyed and loved AG's First Take performance. This performance was also the thing that sealed the deal for me. I've always seen AG as a Japanese musical Monty Python. Love their chaotic positive energy, plus the fact that they have a very broad range when it comes to musicality.
In Japanese schools, there is a "student council" where students work to improve their own school life. The student council is made up of a small number of members representing classes in grades 1-3. Even though they are children, they are given the authority to speak on an equal footing as an opinion of the whole student about management and problems of adults. As a proof of that, he is given an armband during the activities of the student council.

Regarding the meaning, one of the theories is that the "otonablue" is referred to the "blue man" and in the original video of the song the girls explain why they have blue tongues, referring to the fact that they licked the blue man and What the blue man wants is them. The song explains what happens in Japan about the lustful looks at younger girls and what older men do to them, who in the song are called "blue man."
Now he needs to see their dance routines so he can get what they are really made of.

I'm not sure if someone has mentioned it, but the lyrics do actually have a deeper meaning.
It kinda reflects the period of life in mid/post puberty, where you're physically maturing, you notice the looks you get from other people that weren't there before (usually of a 'cheeky' nature to put it simply) and feeling that mentally you're more mature than others your age.
And because you're *so* mature, clearly you would want a mature "adult" romance. so you end up listening to your heart which is speeding ahead into this "mature" "adult" romance and end up feeling blue because it's not what you were expecting or you got hurt.
The reason why it didn't work? you weren't really mature yet, you were just a flower yet to bloom.
I discovered them a few months ago with the video "Music Video VFX Magic With ATARASHII GAKKO!" from Captain Disillusion, which you might want to react to someday. They have so much energy, I love them too!

I believe the head singer is also one of the voices for Asobi Asobase anime and the voices in the show sings the ED for the show along with the other two. All three of them are famous singer in that ED.
