    Ok. So Im following your color along. I have finally realized that I don't have the talent to mix 3-4 colors to make a attractive color and dimension. I'm following you very closely but my picture doesn't look like yours. Great job. Fun to do until I get tired of it and move on to something else. LOL Thanks for the tutorial.

    WOW! so beautiful, thank you for showing colors, not new to coloring, but need to hone my skills and you really inspire me. I love the intensity of your colors, so complimentary to each other. Some colors make me wonder if it will work, but IT DOES! once you're done with it, just amazing. Keep it coming, I have a lot invested in colored pencils so I'm always excited to learn new techniques like ways to shade and fade, when to leave color out, sometimes less is more. Have a Blessed Christmas.

    I am trying so hard to get that technique where you start dark and lighten up the color. I can do that part OK but getting the stop of the shades to stop at the same place is giving me fits. I have always just colored in flat tones, know nearly nothing about shading or how to color the shade created by an object or building. I am 59 and a male closet colorist.(Only my wife knew until I started posting on here.) I am just learning these techniques. I particularly like your tutorial because it is in real time. I have only seen this one so far, but I plan to subscribe. Do you have any suggestions for my problem with getting the tones even so I get the highlights like you do? I know practice, but is there a particular way I should be practicing to get this technique down? All the best, Sean

    • @DavlinaArt
      @DavlinaArt  7 років тому +1

      First of all, i'm really glad that you took up coloring! It is equivalent to meditating for those of us that can't meditate :) Now, getting frustrated defeats the purpose. I'm not sure what you mean by "stop at the same place" but if i'm understanding you right, when you go from dark to light, make sure the transition is seamless. If you suddenly start making it light from dark, you'll have a problem. Make it dark, to slightly dark, then slightly lighter, then more lighter and even more lighter. Make sure the transition is seamless not sudden.
      I hope that helps!

    • @screamingmimi90
      @screamingmimi90 6 років тому

      Sean Mooney hello. I read your comment and thought maybe I could help... When you start coloring dark, you use firm pressure. As you want the color to lighten, you use less pressure. You can use less and less pressure, until the pencil is just barely sitting on the paper. Davlina is a master at doing this smoothly, so try to go easy on yourself. If varying your pressure is frustrating, you can use all light pressure, but just go over the parts you want to darken again and again, until you’re satisfied. The color will build up each time you go over it. Also, you can erase areas that are too dark. I use many erasers: the crumbly “art gum” eraser, the grey kneaded eraser, the white polymer eraser, the old-fashioned pink erasers... they all work. I also use a “colorless blender” to smooth the colors into each other. They are available where ever you purchase Prismacolor pencils for just a couple dollars.
      As far as shading goes, in my drawing classes we started by training our eyes to see the shade. Using a bright light, we just observed how the light fell on an object. There are many tutorials on UA-cam to learn how to do this. I’m happy for you having begun this journey! There is always something to learn, and it is very rewarding to watch your ability grow with everything you try. Enjoy your coloring!❤️

    • @DavlinaArt

      Davlina Art What is wax bloom?

    • @DavlinaArt
      @DavlinaArt  7 років тому

      Hi Kimberly, since prismacolor pencils are made of max, when I color, I usually get remnants of the wax. This usually happens when i color several layers, or when I apply pressure. It is annoying, but not hard to remove if you have a good brush.
