Great Zemun, when comes to old city, unfortunately we still don’t have a law and regulations that is must in order to maintain buildings, no monthly maintenance fee is not required yet , lots of people live in the center but can’t afford anymore , they don’t want to move out of city center but don’t have money to live there as well. Many of them got those apartments almost for nothing in Yugoslavia and don’t care to maintain their property. That is what city has a problem with, residents need to fix their buildings like everywhere in the world only here in Belgrade people think that it is city responsibility to take care of their buildings. Graffiti as well , little hooligans are doing what ever they want and no punishment for their actions. Our city mayor needs to see how others countries and cities keep their cities clean. Example are your cities in Russia, so big but so clean Moscow and Saint Petersburg, I guess your people love and respect their country more then we do

Oh, I see. We actually have the same issue! Lots of people got flats for free during USSR, and they were used to the government taking care of everything, so now they expect the same, but that’s not how it works lol 🤷🏻‍♀️
And then we have an issue in St-Pete that a lot of the buildings are considered cultural heritage, so renovating anything is a bureaucratic pain in the butt 🥲
Anyways, I hope both our countries figure it out, and we’ll live in clean and beautiful cities 🤞🏻

@@iamkseniiayes exactly, I guess it’s socialist, communism mentality still among older generations that is difficult to adapt to new ways of life. Moscow and Saint Petersburg are already clean and beautiful, we just need to fix Belgrade 😉

Predlažem da na leto posetite restoran Balkan Expres u Zemunu, iz koga se pruža divan pogled na Dunav i našu plažu - Lido!

10:05 it is a municipality in Belgrade, one of 18 municipalities of city of Belgrade. Serbia is historicaly divided into two parts. Autrian and turskih. Belgrade connects it. Northern part of Belgrade belongs to austrian part, southern, called STARI GRAD, belongs to turkish part. But both parts looks like mix of Moscow, Vienna and Paris, because of masive destruction of Belgrade and Serbia trough history. Explanation?. Belgrade was bombarded 192 times, ruined to the ground, to the zero, 40 times. The most old buildings in the city was built in 19. century by serbian, italian, french and russian architects. Serbian architects are mostly educated serbian young people finished their schools in Vienna, Budapest and Gratz, Austria, Actually Austrohungarian empire, empire ruled by german family, Habsburgs. They returned to Serbia at the invitation of the Serbian prince Miloš Obrenović(rouling the Serbia as a turkish vasale under ottoman occupation). Also, they continue to return to Serbia after the liberation from the Turks, at the invitation of the Serbian Prince Mihajlo (Knez MIHAJLOVA ULICA) with the task to rebuild the country. They build buildings, roads, create a population census, real estate cadastre, the first theaters, schools,... Princ Miloš Obrenović, later princ Mihajlo, prince Alexander and other roulers, aquires french and italian architects for some buildings in the city. Building of city hall and and old buildings in sorounding are builded in italian and french style. After RUSSIAN RED revolution, thousands and thousands of WHITE russians comes to Serbia, fleeng from REDs, Bollseviks. The most of them are russian noble people, educated people, Engeeners, doctors, writers, poets, school teachers,... Serbia happily accepts that people, and serbian prince imedialty aquires-engaged them in restoration-renovation of the country. First catastr in Serbia was built by russians, also lot of schools, hospitals, institutions in Serbia was built by russians. You will see lot of surnmes on OV in Serbia. 50% of them are Serbs. Austrian govermant during austrian roule over northern Serbia changed their surnames, main goal is faster assimilation to austrian state and austrial culture. For example, serbian surname POPOVI-IĆ was changed to POPOV, KONSTANTINOVIĆ to KONSTANTINOV and simmilar. But 50& of them are actually Russians.

Wow, thank you for such an interesting comment! Amd thank you for taking the time to write it 🙂 I heard that many Russian architects worked on Belgrade’s buildings, and there are many spots in the city where I see the buildings and they immediately remind me St-Petersburg 😌

Less people, less trash. Zemun is more private, thus it is cleaner than the central part of Belgrade.
