damm i almost fell out of my seat!!!! had the volume up loud on my comp thinking it be hard to hear..lol.. how wrong was i..lmao.. the siren at my station, OKAIAWA in south taranaki goes off 6 times.. our neighbours are good as though.. we even have some that will go to our station if it goes off in the middle of the nyte & start up our truck and reset the siren for us because they beat us to the station..lol..
yep we have to reset the siren after every call out..we are a rural brigade so almost all our guys are farmers and i guess on average it takes around 3 to 4 min to get a full crew.. we also have pagers that go off on the 2nd "rise" of the siren.. even thou we are only a single pump station we still average between 90 and 120 calls a year as we have 3 other volunteer stations withn 10 min drive and 99% of the time we backup them..
I used to live on the station in the upstairs accommodation and after the quakes onsite in a shipping container. Christ almighty it's loud. I'd forgotten just how loud.
It was actually a Gents Tangent 1474 - very similar to the Carter/Castings in sound and produced around the same time for WWII. Probably one of very little left in NZ when this video was taken(the other at nearby Lincoln VFB station), and since this station got damaged by an earthquake, the siren was obviously destroyed, so Lincoln VFB now has one of the last Gents in the country, alongside Cooks Beach I think.
Wow, the fire signal in England is Almost EXACTLY the same as the in America . Nice Carter. I think It might need some oil on the bearings though, sounds a little too low .
The city where I used to live has an all volunteer FD....they used to blow the siren for any fire...city (attack) or county (alert)....mainly to let the motorists know the volunteers would be on their way; they finally stopped blowing it between 10PM and 6AM....and finally discontinued it all together.
we have the same few people in town that always complain about the noise of the siren going off in the middle of the night, although the neighbors to the fire station who would have the most right to complain dont seem to mind it, just accept it. our siren goes anytime of the night or day. reception for half of town is crap and despite being 2.5km from the station it does a much better job of getting through my dreams and waking me than my pager.
In wellington, Plimmerton & Tawa only do one blast on their test. I don't see why you'd test it at night & wake every poor bugger up.....Plimmerton's is 12PM Saturday.
The schedule I have says Lyttelton are to get a type 2 in September this year but doesn't mention a new type 1. But then this same schedule mentions nothing about Christchurch 217 getting a new type 3 so it can change :-)

Thanks :-) The last two vids have been with my tripod and that makes them even better.

You should get a recording of this beast from a few hundred yards away
in austria, we are also alerted with sirens in the event of larger operations such as fires, floods or serious traffic accidents
Yep, very much so
I'm glad that they have a paid department where I live. Hearing that go off would scare the crap out of me every time! Nice video.
I live across the road from my fire station and I'm use to the sound
It sounds like a Thunderbolt. It is a Carter Castings

Are four blasts a typical fire call in NZ?

This fire siren is louder than Dannevirke,s fire siren.

Carter

It sounds like a 2t22
i belive thats a 3t22 i think sounds like it.
Undertaker2K2 It's a Gents of Leicester or Carter siren. 3T22's are higher pitched.
Or the thunderbolt 1000T
To be honest, that sounds kinda scary.
Very much so
Training night, they use the space for training.
A reminder of WW2
Fire siren on attack signal...
That’s gross. Why is there farting?
That’s all to say for today. Bye!
