  • Want to get into the study of ancient Greek religion? Here are some books that can get you started.
Aimed primarily at undergraduates or Master's students looking at Greek religion as a dissertation topic, this list will also be useful to those studying areas of ancient history that run adjacent to, and are intertwined with, religion.

All you need to do is study the ancient philosophers! But the books suggested are probably a good introduction.

+Orpheas Nestos Hm. I disagree. The philosopher's can certainly tell us something about the way ideal religion was conceptualised by a certain group of people, but it tells us nothing about actual, real-world religious practices.

Ellie Mackin Roberts There is actually many descriptions of worship and the rituals ( if that is what you mean) within the works of Ancient Greek writers coming from various fields. Ancient Greek philosophers in particular have written mainly about the values and concepts of the Ancient Hellenic religion. In that sense one can gain an understanding of the essence of it all.
