I was baptized into the Orthodox Church two months ago, on April the 27th, and you were part of why I converted a long time ago. I saw you on UA-cam when I was a truth seeker, who did not subscribe to a specific religion even though I knew one of them must be correct, and started watching your videos. I loved them and they helped me through my life despite the fact I was not yet Christian. But one of your videos, the one about Satanic attacks, inspired me to learn more about Orthodox Christianity. As I was studying the theology of Orthodox Christianity one UA-cam, I found a book about the life of Saint Paisios. I read it as I continued studying Orthodox Christianity and that's when I decided that Orthodox Christianity was the truth. Nearly a year later, I was baptized into the Church. I am as well but I feel like the Fathers in Christian Orthodox are the most wise and understanding of spirituality and the soul. Never have I ever heard a protestant or Catholic speak like they do.

Such an important topic. Also important to pray even if you are unsure what to say, remember, prayer doesn’t have to be a formal speech or an essay. Like a loving parent, God would rather you chat inarticulate gibberish and to acknowledge Him than to not acknowledge or talk to Him at all. ☦️
Very true. Jesus says that our prayers must not be too long for pagans believe that they will be heard because of their many words, but God all mighty already knows what we want and need before we ask Him.

Regarding unwanted thoughts, Abba Moses replied to Germanos: 'It is impossible for the mind not to be troubled by these thoughts. But if we exert ourselves it is within our power either to accept them and give them our attention, or to expel them. Their coming is not within our power to control, but their expulsion is."

My iPhone has become my biggest distraction! I woke up so angry at the grief & heartbreak it has brought me that the thought of throwing it against the wall crossed my mind. 😭
There is a prayer in Russian prayer book for someone suffering from distraction, inattention, carelessness in prayer (my translation): "Lord, gather my scattered mind and cleanse my frozen heart, like Peter giving me repentance, like a tax collector lamentation, like a harlot's tears, yes, I call You with a great voice, o Lord, save me, for You are the One Compassionate and Lover of Man."
You're right, the basic thoughts do tend to overflow, but other times the enemy truly tries to put real negative evil unwanted thoughts into our minds during prayer as well, I need to focus on God more so I can not allow the enemy to put such thoughts into my mind,

Father Spyridion . I thank you . Ive been dugesting your words for many months now but 2 months ago my mother was un*alived by her fiancé . Your words mean a lot to me and you have helped me keep my head afloat . I still have much to learn . Especially about forgiveness . I am seriously thinking of going to my local orthodox church on sunday , I believe I will go when I am ready . I long for a feeling of community . I will blossom .
I think it happens to many of us. Sometimes it feels like a roller coaster ride and at others, a battle field. When I lose the joy of loving Christ I define that (for myself) as losing faith, so I pray and ask to be found as sincerely as I can. I don't pray for faith because I feel that is what we must give to God on our own (our side of the bargain) but to pray to see the path and to offer myself for Him to use as He sees fit does seem to bring me back to the fold. I am not a great Christian by any means but that is my 2 cents worth. Hopefully others will have some helpful thoughts or advice in this thread.

I have been fasting and praying with Jesus alone the past 3 days and have received what I needed and thank him for that. It has been very difficult but can do anything through Christ!!!

It will be very difficult for Protestants to accept this concept of one should be staying sober when worshipping God. They easily get carried away by enthusiastically singing until they get so excited to claim these feelings or strong emotions are revelations from above to them personally. They can be quite stubborn about this attitude regarding their state of mind during worship with very loud emotional music played at the background.
The devil truly doesn’t have to do much to get us distracted anymore. I think most people feel trapped in their own lives. Everything we’re surrounded with. Even thought we want to be better and just focus on Him, it seems impossible at times. But I guess that’s the struggle, not an excuse but our test.
What should I do if I cannot have a “sober heart” in prayer? I have severe OCD that makes it very difficult to pray, and I’m always anxious, unable to feel God’s peace. But I still want to have a relationship with God despite this struggle.
You have to believe that everything that happens in your life is meant to bring about your salvation, bring you back to God. Your cross may be your OCD.pick it up and carry it.

I find that there are less distractions when I stand in Prayer,and to meditate on readings from St Issac the Syrian or the Philokalia. Writing this out to anyone who’ll read I feel myself once again backsliding. Not praying daily, not living in repentance, not able to go to the church the last month (genuinely unable due to work), etc. and this random night I fell into a Bible reading rabbit hole after watching a movie (beetlejuice) and the entire time I have this terrible feeling of dread and anxiety in the pit of my gut. Similar to that feeling of tiredness or boredom that your flesh pushes when you’re trying to read the Bible. But this time it’s different. I’m just wondering if you (or anyone) might have some insight on this feeling. Even as I’ve gotten away from the spiritual rabbit hole I was in (I was brought to Isaiah 13 and 47) and settled on this content, that anxiety and I can’t describe exactly how it feels, but imagine the feeling of going home to your parents knowing you’re in trouble (but I don’t feel like I’m in trouble with the Father). I prayed the Lord’s Prayer and the emotion went away for a bit. But even as I type this my stomach is flipping. Anyone experience this?
I was crying out for a video like this, and coincidentally, it appeared to me, or maybe it was a coincidence after all. I'm currently on a long summer break, and although I have done some enjoyable things, most days are the same. I get up, watch UA-cam, eat, sleep, and repeat. This cycle makes me feel depressed and pessimistic because I am in a constant timeloop. I pray to the Lord often, but I pray as if he is a magic genie who will solve all my problems with a click of his gracious fingers, but I know this is not the right way to pray. I know I must help myself before God helps me, so I pray now that the Lord may guide me on the right path. Thanks for making this video, Father. I was on a bit of a ramble there, but I had to get it off my chest.
I have recently given up PMO with the help of god and love him for that. The devil is very upset with that and is attacking me in my dreams with nocturnal emissions and as I become stronger through Christ I am being attacked by stronger evils. I will prevail through the strength of Christ and continue following his word fighting off these attacks. It makes me laugh almost how hard he is trying to get to me to fall and I say NO!!!!!
This is my biggest struggle. You hot a cord with me & my ears perked up to listen to this. These thoughts enter my mind that is truly not me at all. Its almost as if an outside force is inserting thoughts into my mind.

Every time unwanted thoughts sneak up on me, I immediately pray and call on God to rebuke those sneaking thoughts. Because I know for a fact that did not come from me. I did not consent those thoughts. Prayer works and truly effective for every Christian to do.

Not praying daily, not living in repentance, not able to go to the church the last month (genuinely unable due to work), etc. and this random night I fell into a Bible reading rabbit hole after watching a movie (beetlejuice) and the entire time I have this terrible feeling of dread and anxiety in the pit of my gut. Similar to that feeling of tiredness or boredom that your flesh pushes when you’re trying to read the Bible. But this time it’s different. I’m just wondering if you (or anyone) might have some insight on this feeling. Even as I’ve gotten away from the spiritual rabbit hole I was in (I was brought to Isaiah 13 and 47) and settled on this content, that anxiety and I can’t describe exactly how it feels, but imagine the feeling of going home to your parents knowing you’re in trouble (but I don’t feel like I’m in trouble with the Father). I prayed the Lord’s Prayer and the emotion went away for a bit. But even as I type this my stomach is flipping. Anyone experience this?
I was crying out for a video like this, and coincidentally, it appeared to me, or maybe it was a coincidence after all.
I'm currently on a long summer break, and although I have done some enjoyable things, most days are the same. I get up, watch UA-cam, eat, sleep, and repeat. This cycle makes me feel depressed and pessimistic because I am in a constant timeloop. I pray to the Lord often, but I pray as if he is a magic genie who will solve all my problems with a click of his gracious fingers, but I know this is not the right way to pray. I know I must help myself before God helps me, so I pray now that the Lord may guide me on the right path.

I have recently given up PMO with the help of god and love him for that. The devil is very upset with that and is attacking me in my dreams with nocturnal emissions and as I become stronger through Christ I am being attacked by stronger evils. I will prevail through the strength of Christ and continue following his word fighting off these attacks. It makes me laugh almost how hard he is trying to get to me to fall and I say NO!!!!!

Every time unwanted thoughts sneak up on me, I immediately pray and call on God to rebuke those sneaking thoughts. Because I know for a fact that did not come from me. I did not consent those thoughts. Prayer works and truly effective for every Christian to do.
