This is the warmest romance anime ever. It just radiates all of the purity, passion and cuteness that a series about young love should always have. I think about KK all the time. Goated series.
Tbh I actually like the fact that Kare Kano isn't talked about that much. It's not destroyed by the internet or over analyzed by many like a lot of other shows!
This is basically that one scene in Evangelion where everybody is living in a slice-of-life comedy anime utopia but extended in 26 episodes. Jokes aside you can really see that Hideaki Anno had fun with this project. The fact that it takes the time to fully express the feelings of most main characters in long monologues, and I don't want to still talk about Evangelion but you can see why Anno chose this manga in the first place. It's a shojo, yes, but more than entertaining a fantasy the characters are always trying to reach the reality of self and the maximum expression of love, and youth spirit. It's incredibly deep and meaningful, sometimes melancholic, sometimes just so touching, and a lot of times just hella funny, and there's nothing like "the end of the world" on the line, it's truly immense in it's semplicity, very different but similar to Evangelion in many ways. I love this, it's just truly phenomenal. I think it anticipates animes like Love Is War by decades, and it's in many ways even better than it. I don't think I've ever watched a show of the same genre that could ever compete with something like this. You can see some Bakemonogatari in it, some KyoAni style slice-of-life dynamics, but I don't think I've ever seen stuff written about love this good in an anime, ever. A little and modest masterpiece indeed.
Just recently discovered I be came nostalgic due to the show and music (Music is at another level). Nostalgic for something created 25 years ago. I follow Atsuno on YT (the voice actor for the head role) and told her her voice hasn't changed allot since the energy seen in the Kare Kano, you can literally observe listening to her live sessions :-) . Also the Uno game story is just brilliant. Besides , one of the charms being the gem it is, is because it stopped so early. Thanks for this video!!
currently watching karekano (im at ep 10) and i gotta say its the most unique and fun romcom experience ive ever had in my 25 years. thanking my sister for showing me her childhood shows its peak :3
I'm now interested to check it out. My favorite romance anime is Bloom Into You. It's sort of similar with Kare Kano (I haven't watched it so idk), but it deals with the themes of self loathing, the masks we wear, and what it means to be in love. It's less comedic with more emphasis on drama, but I like how it explores aromanticism.
I watched this and Excel Saga around the same time. What a couple of trippy , fun shows! I didn't know about all the budget troubles, that's sad, because I loved it and still do! I'm glad they were able to make such difficulties into creative and fun episodes
Thanks for the video, always happy to hear good things about His & Her Circumstances. I got lucky in March 2019 when travelling to Japan and, completely by chance, found out that the Blu-ray box of KareKano was to come out that exact week for the first time to celebrate celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show. Superb story thanks to outstanding protagonists but also exceptionally unique secondary characters that act in a such a more organic way than just supports, with their own independent arcs at times. I truly recommend the show to younger enthusiasts, and the manga to anyone who enjoyed the anime, as it goes on several years with the story, digs deep in Arima's past and relations and becomes more mature.
Literally I absolutely adored the anime and I was saddened by the last few episodes not being able to be done properly. I read the rest of the series's manga and LOVED it!
I heard the manga gets even darker but honestly... what they covered in the anime was quite satisfying as is. Two secretly dark people getting together is great, hell relationship starting eraly is still exceptionally rare.
Just finished rewatching Kare Kano and I basically 180'd my stance. Went from subpar in my eyes to one of my top 10 favorite anime series. I made sure to watch this video after finishing my rewatch and can't agree more with what you say. Great work! STEVEM made a great video about Hideaki Anno with a 15-minute section talking about Kare Kano if you want more information.
I watched this anime over 12 years ago, and was so impressed and shocked that it ends so abrubtly that I went and read through all the 200-something chapters of the manga. It was my first manga ever, and it still is one of my favourites! (I was reading it in English translation, and at the time my English wasn't even that good, but I was motivated enough to use a translator when needed, just to know what happens next in the story :D) The manga does get a bit darker, but also a bit funnier at times. A perfect serious/humorous combo imho. I also really liked how the author, Masami Tsuda, was adding her mini stories at the bottom of the page sometimes, where she shared some behind the scenes events or her tastes in music and other things. It was cool to kind of meet the person behind the story, and get to know her a little :)
I just watched all the Anime in two days then I read the entire manga from ch. 37 yesterday/last night. It’s simply amazing. I cried so much and it was so funny and dark and at times just brutal. As a child abuse survivor, I’ve never seen child abuse & survivors’ mask addressed in such a brutally real way. I think the later eps are worth watching despite the low production value. Watching & reading it in my early 30s was a bittersweet experience and I’d highly recommend it to anyone.
Regardless it not being so known and popular as it was back then ... All rom-com anime will always have a huge mountain to climb, and that mountain is karekano. I may still find one that gets close to its level... A better one? I doubt, honestly
08:50 I do wish you would remove or correct this old, unsourced claim. It's been debunked that Anno ever left, because he's still credited in all those episodes.
I made an awkward attempt at bonding with my sister by introducing her to this anime when we were kids. I think she ended up liking it, and that made me happy.
typical anime studio: "the production schedule is messed up? HOLY SHIT SAVE YOURSELF!! MAY DAY! MAY DAY!" -sounds of screaming and alarm sirens in the background - * studio GAINAX: "the production schedule is messed up? Lol take all the photos, rough animations and papercuts you can find and let's make a crazy avant gardre finale people will be talking about 20 since now" ** *not dissing other studios, that's the honestly natural reaction, it's just that GAINAX people were crazier ** ok not the finale in Kare Kano's case, but still applies...
Better than evangelion , and no anno didn't change much about the plot or character anno just made his amazing direction style and so did imaishi when the comedy shots were going
@@arlekino0792 The Manga have literally R-a-p-e committed by boyfriend , unwanted pregnancy in adolescence, the daughter after this have a romance with a man much older than her when she was a minor

That’s totally fair. I love the more niche community it has, but I will always push the shows that I find amazing to as many people as possible 🤗
@@ReturningSunn what a traitor :'(
It’s also great the anime never finished adapting the manga since the manga gets bat shit bonkers.

This explains a lot
The author hated the style of how the anime was turning out
But these budget saving tricks were so clever!
And caught the energy
One of my favourites; a little gem.

Just grabbed a copy, the DVDs are thankfully pretty cheap still. Thanks for the recommendation!
Have fun!
I wish you had more subs, your take on this is so good.
Thank you :)
awesome vid, this anime will be a good thing to add to my 700 films/shows list
the best thing about evangelion NTE is that shiro sagisu got to remake parts of the kare kano OST for ha

Imma getting major NICHIJOU vibes from the animation
The returning sun is returning more often these days
Indeed!

The holding hand confession is soooo cute and sweet!
not even gonna finish watching this video. ill watch the rest in 2 days, after im done with the show
Still one of the best romance mangas I've ever read. It keeps developing deeper as it continues.
Thank you ive been saying this since like 2009
The manaka is nuts given how that series went on later on.
Cool video love this show Anno is a hack no?
kare kano was so good i bought the entire manga
Yukino was the Queen!

Haven’t watched the video yet but you’re so right
Such a great series and dub.
Haven’t seen the dub yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I saw one clip from episode one that had me rolling.
@@ReturningSunn the dub was made at same studio who helped dub Genshiken and Aria.
I loved this show, it was so nice and fun.
Kare Kano is to this day my favourite manga / anime. Maybe tied with Detective Conan. I wish Kare Kano was a bit more popular though.
Yukino Miyazawa is a role model, in the best and worst possible ways.

I have the original dvds for all the episodes. This is one of the anime where the english dub actually sounds better 💯
The manga ends perfectly, as far i remember it took 10 year to end
And it's not even close!
The manga of Kare Kano is Dark 💀
Guns 💀
Low-key I dislike manga a lot

I love this anime
Just watched it to prove that this is not
But I agree this is the best Romance anime
Richard.
Josh…
Sadly, there is so much of Arima in me.
Luckily, the show told me how to cope.
Last episode ruined the entire series for me, so bad
Oh my I love the anime but the 2nd half of the manga is idk... Kinda trashy
LMAO
