  • Revising for Respiratory System Histories for your OSCEs can be made easier by focusing down on common symptoms that patients with respiratory diseases often present with.
Common Respiratory System histories for medical school examinations tend to follow themes:
    - Cough
    - Wheeze
    - Haemoptysis
    - Chest Pain
    - Shortness of breath
By focusing your OSCE revision to these common symptoms you can optimise your revision time and remote the fear of coming up against a respiratory case.
These common respiratory symptoms have the benefit of crossing over into other specialities as well

The part when you talk about helping, but not promising to cure people. This is so important. The last 14 years of nursing showed me that usually people just want someone to listen to them, not necessarily promise them a miracle.

10:20 It's such a blessing to know that you have a doctor that is actually taking care of things. My partner went to a clinic because she had been sick for 2 months with gastrological problems which in turn worsened her asthma. Her doctor shooed her because she thought she was putting the clinic in danger. Gave her antibiotics without even examining her. After some days we went to another doctor who got her history in the short time of 3 minutes ( she said that she had already seen 5 doctors prior to him because nobody could find the reason she had extreme pain and dysphagia )... He gave her psychoactive drugs for a month and told her it was all in her mind. And then we went to the hospital where they gave her 2500ml Methamizol for the pain and told her to leave.... Methamizol , because she has had a Thyroidectomy, completely messed her up sending her into pharmaceutical induced Hypothyroidism. I hope nobody goes through this. It has been a test for us and really tought us what it means to have a good doctor. Please keep doing what you are doing.

My husband is turning 40yrs old this year. Last year, he started getting dyspnoea just going up the stair at home, also his BP started getting higher and higher. He went to the cardiologist, he changed his meds and asked for a Doppler echocardiography. Then they asked for the transesophageal and we found out why he was so tired. Apparently he was born with an atrial septal defect and the right side of his heart was just tired from trying to keep up with the inflow from the left for all these years. He had a minimally invasive surgery in February and it has improved a lot. So, yes. Dyspnoea can come from anywhere

Thanks Dr Gill. I'm an asmathic and I'm actually in trouble with a sudden SOB, after many years without one. No more sympthoms than that, even though fully capable of practicing sport, but only this constant "pain" that won't relieve yet, after some days of cortisone medical prescription. Any thoughts on this? Really appreciate your time. Thanks again Dr. Gill.

If the steroids have not helped, you need to get a review with your doctor as soon as you can - I’d suggest the A&E dept to be safe

Dr. Gill gets launched off his bike, fracturing ribs.
    Still goes in to work.
What we in the states would call a badd--ass. (That's without even taking the desert island or Mt. Everest adventures into account.)

I only know how to be me. If I tried to change my approach or behaviour it would be odd at best, and dishonest at worst.
These videos have been done with the hope of helping people, (and my own enjoyment for the two book readings) if people find them enjoyable generally, then all power to them 😊

I have a question about asthma. I had asthma when I was younger, up through early middle school, (not sure what the school system's like over there, where I am, middle school is 6-8 grade), but it went away with no recent relapses. I was wondering if there is a risk of it returning, and what could increase that risk. I run, and I take it pretty seriously, so I'm in good shape in that regard. If I were asked if I have any current medical conditions, should I say asthma?

A lot of people do tend to grow out of asthma. Although the actual reasons for this are not very clear
